What’s Inside Vite+? The Tools Behind Its `vp` Commands

Vite+ connects specialized development tools through a consistent vp command interface. Here’s what each tool and command does, and what the integration does—and doesn’t—change.

Vite+ brings several specialized web-development tools together behind a consistent vp command interface. The interface gives you a shared way to run common workflows; it does not turn a bundler, test runner, formatter, linter and task runner into interchangeable parts.

What is actually inside Vite+?

Vite+ is an integrated workflow built around separate tools, each with a particular job. In its September 28, 2026 announcement, VoidZero described Vite+ 1.0 as stable, free, open source under the MIT license, and framework-agnostic. VoidZero calls it a single entry point for web development, and says it is “neither a framework, nor a package manager and definitely not a replacement for Vite.” VoidZero’s Vite+ 1.0 announcement lists nine commands and says one root vite.config.ts configures the workflows.

The central idea is orchestration: use vp to access a coordinated set of tools, while each tool still handles its own kind of work. The command map below reflects the current descriptions in VoidZero’s 1.0 announcement.

Tool Its job Related command
Vite Local development server and application-build workflow vp dev, vp build
Vitest Runs tests vp test
Rolldown Bundles production application builds vp build
tsdown Builds and packages libraries vp pack
Oxlint Checks for suspicious or problematic code patterns vp check
Oxfmt Formats code consistently vp check
Vite Task Runs tasks with monorepo dependency awareness and caching vp run

What do the Vite+ commands do?

The commands cover more than the tools in the table: they also create projects, install dependencies and manage Node.js versions. Here is the current command list from VoidZero’s 1.0 announcement.

Command Purpose
vp create Scaffolds a project.
vp install Installs dependencies using the project’s package manager.
vp dev Starts the development server.
vp check Formats, lints and type-checks code.
vp test Runs tests.
vp build Creates production application builds.
vp pack Builds libraries and standalone binaries.
vp run Executes monorepo-aware tasks with caching.
vp env Manages Node.js versions.

How does the everyday workflow fit together?

A typical loop might start with vp dev for local development, then use vp test to run tests and vp check to format, lint and type-check. When the application is ready, vp build creates its production build. This sequence describes the commands’ roles, not a rule that every project must follow in exactly that order.

For a library rather than an application, the relevant path is vp pack. In a monorepo, vp run handles task execution with awareness of task relationships and caching. The remaining commands address project setup and runtime: vp create scaffolds, vp install installs dependencies through the project’s package manager, and vp env manages Node.js versions.

Why are linting and formatting separate?

Linting asks whether code may contain a problem; formatting makes its presentation consistent. Oxlint is the linter in the workflow, while Oxfmt is the formatter. Both are available through vp check, but they do different jobs: a formatter can standardize layout without deciding whether a code pattern is suspicious, and a linter can flag a potential issue without being the tool that applies a consistent layout.

When should you use build, pack or run?

Use vp build for an application

vp build creates a production application build. The workflow associates it with Vite and Rolldown: Vite covers the development and application-build workflow, while Rolldown is the production bundler.

Use vp pack for a library

vp pack is for building libraries and standalone binaries; the chapter’s tool map associates library packaging with tsdown. It is not simply another name for producing an application build.

Use vp run for coordinated tasks

In a monorepo, tasks can depend on one another. Vite Task is intended to model those relationships and reuse cached results when inputs have not changed. That is a workflow capability, not a guaranteed speed improvement for any particular repository.

Does the unified interface make the underlying tools irrelevant?

No. A consistent command surface can make common workflows easier to invoke, but it does not erase the distinction between the tools or guarantee that every existing setup will behave identically. If you need to diagnose a lint result, adjust formatting, understand a production bundle or investigate a test failure, knowing which tool does that work remains useful.

When considering Vite+, compare it with the setup you actually have: the project’s type and scale, current Vite and test configuration, plugin and rule compatibility, migration effort, and measured local build, check and test times. For a monorepo, consider whether task relationships and caching address a real need; for any team, weigh a shared workflow against managing the tools separately. VoidZero says existing Vite plugins and package-manager choices can continue to be used, but that does not establish compatibility for every plugin, rule or project.

What do the speed claims establish?

VoidZero’s March 13, 2026 alpha announcement reported production builds approximately 1.6× to 7.7× faster than Vite 7 for Vite with Rolldown. VoidZero also reported Oxlint as approximately 50× to 100× faster than ESLint and Oxfmt as up to 30× faster than Prettier. These are vendor-reported comparisons, not independent benchmarks; the published figures do not establish that every project will see those gains. VoidZero’s Vite+ Alpha announcement gives the earlier comparisons, and the September 2026 1.0 announcement repeats the Oxlint and Oxfmt ranges.
