Yes—you can play PS5 games on a Steam Deck by streaming them from your PS5 with Sony’s Remote Play service and the community-made Chiaki-ng client (also known through its Chiaki4Deck branding). The PS5 runs the game; the Deck displays the video stream and sends your controls back to the console. Sony does not list the Steam Deck among its official Remote Play clients, so Chiaki-ng is an unofficial route, not a Sony app.
What streaming to a Steam Deck does—and does not do
Remote Play does not install or run a PS5 game on the Deck. Your PS5 must be available and connected to a network; it processes the game while the Deck acts as a screen and controller. Sony says Remote Play can be used away from home with a high-speed internet connection, but the experience depends on the connection between the Deck and console.

Sony’s Remote Play overview lists Sony’s supported client combinations, not the Steam Deck. Chiaki-ng is open-source community software, and its project says it is not affiliated with Sony Interactive Entertainment. What you need before you start
- A Steam Deck and a PS4 or PS5 console.
- PlayStation Remote Play enabled on the console and current PlayStation system software.
- A PlayStation Network account.
- Chiaki-ng installed on the Deck. The project lists Linux Flatpak (Flathub) and AppImage options on its releases page.
- About 200 MB of free storage, according to the Chiaki4Deck project’s prerequisite estimate (accessed 2026).
- A stable network. The project recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi and calls a wired Ethernet connection for the console ideal.
Those network suggestions are guidance, not guaranteed minimum requirements: the available sources do not establish a universal bandwidth or latency threshold. A separate DualSense controller is optional; the Deck’s built-in controls can handle the basic streaming setup.

Set up the connection using maintained instructions
- On the PS5, enable Remote Play and make sure the console is connected to your network.
- On the Steam Deck, install a current Chiaki-ng release using the project’s maintained release and setup instructions. Choose the listed Linux distribution that fits your setup.
- Register or connect Chiaki-ng to your console by following the current project guide. Pairing and account steps can change, so use the maintained instructions rather than relying on an older walkthrough.
- Launch Chiaki-ng from Steam Gaming Mode as described in the current setup guide, then adjust the stream and controls if needed.
Exact menu labels and registration steps are version-sensitive; consult the live Chiaki-ng release information and project setup guidance for the version you install.
Choose a network setup that suits where you play
Playing at home
Keep the PS5 and Deck on a stable network. The project recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi where coverage is good and says wiring the console to the network is ideal. It does not say that the Deck itself must be wired, nor does it require buying an Ethernet adapter for the Deck.

Playing away from home
Remote Play can connect beyond your home network, but success depends on the console, router, and remote network. Chiaki-ng’s project describes remote PSN connection mode and notes that port forwarding is not always needed in newer versions. That is not a guarantee that every router works without configuration; check the instructions for your current version before changing router settings.

Troubleshoot discovery or poor stream quality
If Chiaki-ng does not find the console
- Confirm Remote Play is enabled on the PS5.
- Check that the Deck and console are on the same network for an in-home connection.
- Check the console’s IP address and try the project’s pairing-mode guidance.
These are project troubleshooting suggestions, not guaranteed fixes.

If the picture or connection is unstable
- Try lowering the stream bitrate in Chiaki-ng.
- Check the console’s network signal and improve its connection if possible.
- Close other applications or devices using substantial network bandwidth.
Network conditions vary, so there is no single bitrate or performance result that applies to every home.
Controls and optional DualSense features
Chiaki-ng documents support for the Deck’s gyro, touchpad and touchscreen mappings, and custom layouts. Its controller guide also describes PS5 haptics on the Deck controller. Feature behavior depends on controller choice and configuration rather than being universal.

For a DualSense, the guide says haptics require a USB connection, while adaptive triggers can work over USB or Bluetooth. Some controller functionality requires disabling Steam Input for the PlayStation controller; doing so can also remove access to certain Chiaki-ng shortcuts. Review the Chiaki-ng controller guide before changing input settings.
Know the Remote Play restrictions
Some games are incompatible with Remote Play. Sony specifically excludes games requiring PS VR2, PS VR, or PlayStation Camera. Sony also says Remote Play cannot be used at the same time as certain features, including Share Play, streaming games from PlayStation Plus Premium, Blu-ray or DVD playback, VR mode, and music or video services. Wireless controller features may be restricted, and availability can vary with the content, system software, and application version. When this setup makes sense
- Choose Chiaki-ng if you want to stream games from your own PS5 to the Deck and are comfortable using a community client.
- Consider an official Sony Remote Play client if official client support matters more to you than playing on the Deck.
- For either route, weigh setup effort, controller features, reliability on your home or remote network, and Sony’s game and feature restrictions. There is no head-to-head performance test here to establish one option as faster or more reliable.
