Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallThe right fix depends on how you’re trying to play: through a community project that runs the game locally, through a Steam shortcut, or by streaming from a PlayStation. These routes have different requirements, so first identify what the shortcut or app actually launches. Valve’s general Steam Deck troubleshooting applies to device or Steam-app instability; it does not fix emulator-specific setup problems.
First, identify how Bloodborne is being launched
Bloodborne on Steam Deck can refer to more than one setup. A Steam Library entry might be a shortcut to a community tool rather than a native Steam game. Other routes include DeckBorne/ShadPS4, the separate bbport project, or Remote Play from a PlayStation. Don’t assume that a shortcut failing means the game files themselves are faulty.

| Route | Where the game runs | First place to check |
|---|---|---|
| DeckBorne/ShadPS4 | Locally on the Deck through community software | DeckBorne’s README for its install method, game-file requirements, and profile caveats |
| bbport | Locally on the Deck through a separate Linux implementation | bbport’s release notes for its supported dump, Deck guidance, and experimental options |
| Remote Play | On a PS4 or PS5, with the game streamed to the Deck | Sony’s Remote Play troubleshooting for console setup and network checks |
| Other Steam app or shortcut | Depends on the app or command that the entry launches | Use SteamOS troubleshooting first if the Deck or Steam applications are unstable; otherwise check the specific app’s setup |
Fix general Steam Deck or Steam-app instability
If the Deck itself is unstable, or several Steam applications fail, start with Valve’s device-level checks rather than changing Bloodborne graphics or emulator settings. Steam Support recommends installing available system updates and restarting. For instability in applications run through Steam, it also advises disabling third-party applications installed through Desktop Mode and testing again.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Install any available SteamOS updates, then restart the Deck.
- If Steam applications remain unstable, exit or disable third-party applications installed through Desktop Mode, restart, and retry.
- If the issue persists after updating and restarting, Steam Support suggests trying the Steam Deck Beta. If the problem continues, contact Steam Support.
Steam’s Verified and Playable labels describe Valve’s review of titles in the Steam catalog. They do not certify an unofficial emulator, a locally installed community project, or a shortcut configured by the user.

Troubleshoot a DeckBorne/ShadPS4 launch or performance problem
Check the project’s prerequisites and installation route
DeckBorne’s README describes two installation approaches: transfer files with a USB stick, or install from SteamOS Desktop Mode when the required files are already on the Deck. The README specifies a 64GB USB stick for the transfer method; that is not a general Steam Deck requirement. It also lists at least 33GB of internal storage, user-provided Bloodborne files with update v1.09, and an internet connection to download ShadPS4 and patches. DeckBorne says it does not provide or link the game files.
If the installer or game does not start, verify that you used the instructions for the route you chose and that the required files and update are present. Don’t substitute a different project’s instructions: DeckBorne’s README is the source for its own installer behavior and may change as the project is updated.

Match the profile to its required mod
The README describes Deck-oriented 30 FPS/800p and 60 FPS/800p profiles, plus a 60 FPS/1080p desktop profile. DeckBorne warns that its DeckBorne profile requires mods: the listed 30 FPS++ and 60 FPS++ patches have a known character-face issue, and the project uses a vertex-explosion fix mod. If you selected one of those profiles without meeting its mod requirements, follow the project’s current README rather than treating the profile as a guaranteed fix.

The README also says LCD-model validation needs more testing. Its profiles and caveats are maintainer documentation, not a performance guarantee for every Deck model or software version.

Troubleshoot bbport separately
bbport is a different project from DeckBorne/ShadPS4, so its release instructions and settings should not be applied to the other route. Its release page describes an AppImage for desktop Linux and Steam Deck, and requires a user-provided dump of Bloodborne CUSA03173 v1.09; the game files are not included.
For the Steam Deck, bbport’s release notes recommend FSR 3 and 1280×720 output. The same notes describe a new memory model as experimental, off by default, and potentially crash-prone; they also say it does not work properly on NVIDIA. Treat these as bbport maintainer guidance for the documented release, not as universal emulator settings or tested results for every Deck. If the game crashes after changing memory options, consult the release notes and revert experimental settings before trying unrelated graphics changes.

Fix Remote Play launch and connection problems
Confirm the console and account setup
When Bloodborne is streaming from a PlayStation, investigate the console and connection before changing local emulator settings. Sony’s setup guidance calls for the console to be connected to the internet, Remote Play to be enabled, console system software to be updated, and the console and Remote Play device to use the same account. For PS4, Sony also requires the console to be activated as the primary console. The console must remain online while it is on or in rest mode.

Sony Interactive Entertainment lists 5 Mbps upload and download as the minimum connection speed for Remote Play; the support page does not state a publication year. It recommends 15 Mbps or more in both directions for best performance, also with no year stated. These figures concern the Remote Play connection, not local Bloodborne frame rate.

- Use Sony’s Remote Play troubleshooting page to check for other console or connection issues.
Sony notes that some games or controller features may not work through Remote Play, so a successful connection does not guarantee identical controller behavior to playing on the console.
What to do if the game still will not launch
Keep the next troubleshooting step specific to the route. For a shortcut, identify which app or command it starts. For DeckBorne or bbport, compare the installed project version and game update with that project’s current instructions. For Remote Play, work through Sony’s console and network checks. Record the exact error, the route, Deck model, SteamOS version, and project release you’re using before asking for support; those details help distinguish a device problem from a project or connection issue.
