Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsPublishing an AI-assisted Unity game is possible, but disclosure is only one part of the release decision. Before you submit, identify every AI-generated element that players will see or hear, separate assets made during development from content generated at runtime, verify the rights and licenses for the final build, and answer each store’s current disclosure questions accurately. Steam, Unity’s Asset Store, and U.S. copyright registration apply different tests; passing one does not clear the others.
Start with the material players will receive
The most useful first question is not “Did we use AI?” It is “What AI-created material ships in the product or its marketing, and how is it delivered?” Steam’s current Content Survey focuses on AI-created content that is included with the game and consumed by players. Its examples include artwork, sound, narrative and localization. AI used only to speed up coding, debugging, testing or other internal work is not the focus of that section. Valve states: “Efficiency gains through the use of these tools is not the focus of this section.”
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
That distinction does not make development-only use irrelevant. Keep an internal record of tools and workflows, because you may need to demonstrate how a shipped asset was made, what license applied, or what human changes were added. It also prevents a common mistake: describing a game as having no AI content when generated dialogue, textures, music, portraits or translations actually remain in the build.
Classify each item by where it appears
| Material | Examples | Release question |
|---|---|---|
| Player-facing, shipped content | Character art, music, voice, scripts, item descriptions, subtitles and localization | Does the target store require disclosure, and do you have permission to use the output? |
| Store and marketing material | Capsule art, screenshots, trailers, descriptions and promotional copy | Does the presentation accurately match the build and the store’s rules? |
| Development-only assistance | Code suggestions, test generation, temporary concept exploration and internal automation | Is any generated material still present in the shipped product or marketing? |
| Runtime generation | AI-created dialogue, images, quests or other output produced while a player is running the game | What moderation, filtering, reporting and response controls prevent illegal output? |
Inventory game files, downloadable content, patches, cloud-generated results and store-page assets. Mark whether each item is wholly generated, AI-assisted, or human-created after using AI as a reference. “AI-assisted” is not a legal category by itself; the important facts are the final expression, the applicable terms and the rights you can establish.

Understand Steam’s two AI-content categories
If Steam is a destination, its Content Survey asks you to distinguish pre-generated from live-generated content. Answer based on what players receive, not on the marketing label for your tool.
Pre-generated content
Pre-generated content is made with AI during development, then packaged and consumed by players. A set of AI-created portraits in the installation, generated background music, AI-assisted quest text or machine-generated localization can all fall into this practical category. Record which items are included, how they were edited and whether later updates add more generated material.
Valve’s survey requires a promise that the game will not include illegal or infringing content and will remain consistent with its marketing materials. Steam’s review evaluates AI output under the same standard as other content. A disclosure is therefore not a waiver, a license, or permission to ship material that violates platform rules or another party’s rights.
Live-generated content
Live-generated content is created while the game runs. Examples include a model producing dialogue in response to a player, generating a picture from a player’s prompt, or constructing quests on demand. For this category, Steam asks you to explain safeguards intended to prevent illegal output.

Describe controls that actually exist in the released product: input filtering, output moderation, blocklists, rate limits, human review where applicable, logging, a way to report harmful results, and a process for disabling or correcting a failing feature. Do not claim a safeguard merely because a provider’s model is advertised as safe. Explain what your game does when a filter fails, when a player attempts prohibited content, or when an output must be removed after release.
Submit answers that remain accurate
Complete the survey before approval with the build and store page you intend to release. Steam warns that some answers cannot be edited after build and store-page approval without contacting Support. If the AI feature, shipped assets or marketing description changes, review the survey state and contact Support when the interface does not permit an update. A patch that adds generated dialogue or a new runtime model can change the answer even if the original launch build did not use it.
Unity rules depend on what you are submitting
Unity’s Asset Store submission rules are separate from the requirements for releasing a game made with Unity. If you submit an AI-assisted asset for sale, Unity requires transparent disclosure in the marketing data and an AI description field. State the specific tools used, identify the generated portions, and describe modifications that add value beyond generation.
Unity may reject submissions that resemble third-party or copyrighted work, plagiarize another Asset Store publisher, lack meaningful differentiation, or use marketing language that overstates human effort. AI-generated or AI-assisted content must not use keywords implying work such as “hand drawn” when that description is inaccurate. Unity also reserves the right to reject mass-produced submissions without sufficient value or distinction.

- [Dont Hesite to Order] 24 hours customer services and professional technology team are standing by
These are Asset Store submission requirements, not a universal rule that every Unity game must display an AI label. Unity’s broader services policies still prohibit illegal, infringing or misleading content, so a game release must comply with the rules of the services and stores involved. Treat the Asset Store form, the Unity service terms and the target game store as separate compliance tasks.
Build a provenance and rights file for every shipped asset
Unity says assets generated by its own AI services carry Unity AI metadata for traceability, but users remain responsible for having the rights needed for content in the final build. Do not assume metadata proves ownership or clears a third-party claim. Providers, models, supported asset types and service terms can change.
For each material item, retain a compact record containing:
Recommended Free Tools
- the asset name, version and location in the build;
- the provider, product, model or tool and the date of generation;
- the prompt or workflow when it helps reproduce the result;
- the source files and any third-party inputs;
- the provider’s terms and output-license language in force when you created it;
- human selection, arrangement, editing, compositing, recording or rewriting;
- approval by the person responsible for legal, editorial and quality review; and
- the stores, regions and releases in which the asset appears.
Check input permissions as carefully as output terms. A tool may let you generate an image while prohibiting uploads of confidential material, a client’s work, a person’s likeness or content for which you lack permission. Review trademark, publicity, privacy and contractual risks in addition to copyright. If an output closely resembles an identifiable game, artist, character or recording, replace or substantially rework it rather than relying on a disclosure.

Separate copyright protection from permission to use
U.S. copyright guidance addresses whether expression can receive copyright protection and how to register it. It does not guarantee that an output is non-infringing, licensed or safe to publish.
The U.S. Copyright Office’s Part 2 report, released January 29, 2025, says AI outputs can be protected where a human author determines sufficient expressive elements. Human-authored material perceptible in the result, creative arrangement and creative modification can support protection. Providing prompts alone does not establish human authorship. The Office also says that using AI as an aid, or including AI-generated material in a larger human-created work, does not automatically prevent copyrightability. As Register of Copyrights and Director Shira Perlmutter put it: “Where that creativity is expressed through the use of AI systems, it continues to enjoy protection.”
For a U.S. registration application, the Office’s March 2023 guidance says that a work containing more than a de minimis amount of AI-generated material should disclose that material and briefly explain the human author’s contribution. Keep drafts, layered files, edit histories and decision records that show those contributions. Registration treatment is fact-specific and the U.S. guidance is not a worldwide rule; check the law and application requirements in every relevant market.
The Office reported reviewing more than 10,000 public comments while preparing its 2025 report. That figure describes the report process, not the likelihood of approval, sales, rejection or infringement for a particular game.

A practical pre-release workflow
- Create the inventory. List executable files, downloadable content, audio, text, localization, cinematics, screenshots, trailers, store copy and runtime-generation features. Mark each item as human-created, AI-assisted or AI-generated, and note whether players consume it.
- Map the delivery method. Label every player-facing item as pre-generated or live-generated. For live features, document prompts, outputs, moderation, reporting and shutdown procedures.
- Verify rights. Read the provider and model terms that applied when each asset was made. Confirm input permissions, output rights, attribution duties, restrictions on commercial use, likeness and publicity issues, and possible resemblance to protected work.
- Preserve evidence. Store prompts or workflows where useful, source material, model details, licenses, human edits, approvals and the exact asset version that shipped.
- Audit the build and page together. Check that screenshots, descriptions, tags, trailers and claims about human creation accurately describe the released content. Remove assets that cannot be cleared or accurately described.
- Complete Steam’s survey, if applicable. Report player-consumed AI content, choose the correct generation category and explain live safeguards. Do not treat the survey as a rights defense.
- Review other stores and jurisdictions. Confirm each destination’s current AI-disclosure, content, privacy, age-rating and intellectual-property rules. Requirements are not established to be identical across platforms or countries.
- Handle an Asset Store submission separately. If selling an AI-assisted Unity asset, complete the AI description with tools, generated portions and value-adding modifications, then recheck licensing and marketing claims.
- Prepare for changes. Revisit disclosures when a patch adds generated content, a provider or model changes, or a store page is updated. Contact Steam Support if an approved survey answer cannot be edited.
Runtime generation needs an operational safety plan
A live feature creates risks that a fixed asset review cannot solve. Decide what happens before launch when a player enters a prohibited prompt, the model returns illegal material, a third party reports an output, or a provider changes its filtering behavior. Use layered controls rather than one model setting: constrain inputs, moderate outputs, limit repeated requests, provide a report path, retain the minimum logs needed to investigate, and make it possible to disable the feature without taking the whole game offline.
Document who reviews reports, how quickly content is removed, how repeat abuse is handled and how players are told about limitations. If the game is available to children or in multiple regions, check the applicable privacy, consumer-protection and age-rating obligations separately; the available platform guidance does not provide a complete cross-border matrix.
Budget and service-term issues
Unity’s Terms of Service page, reviewed June 30, 2026, describes entitlements that can include metered AI credits, tokens, compute or other usage units. Unity may impose limits, expiration periods, replenishment schedules or overage charges. Those provisions are a reason to check the plan and product-specific terms when estimating development or runtime costs, not evidence of any particular price or allowance.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →For a live feature, model the cost of peak demand, retries, moderation calls, storage and emergency disabling. Keep a fallback behavior—such as a curated response set or temporarily unavailable message—so an exhausted allowance does not produce broken or unsafe gameplay. Recheck provider terms before launch and after major model or plan changes.
Quick Recap
Common mistakes that delay publication
- Reporting only the tool, not the output. Stores care about content players receive, including generated art, sound, text and localization.
- Calling every use “pre-generated.” Content created during play is live-generated and requires a safeguard explanation on Steam.
- Assuming disclosure grants permission. Platform rules and intellectual-property obligations still apply.
- Relying on prompts as proof of authorship. U.S. guidance looks for human-determined expressive elements, arrangement or modification.
- Using Asset Store language that implies hand creation. AI-assisted submissions must describe tools and value-adding changes accurately.
- Ignoring marketing assets. A trailer or screenshot can create the same rights and accuracy problem as an in-game asset.
- Failing to update after a patch. New generated content or a changed runtime feature can make an earlier survey answer inaccurate.
- Assuming one jurisdiction’s answer travels worldwide. Store and copyright rules vary, and the available guidance is not a universal international checklist.
Final launch checklist
- Every AI-created or AI-assisted player-facing asset is listed and classified.
- Pre-generated and live-generated content are clearly separated.
- Runtime prompts, filters, moderation, reporting and shutdown procedures are documented.
- Provider terms, inputs, outputs, licenses and human edits are preserved for each shipped item.
- Potential infringement, likeness, trademark, privacy and misleading-marketing issues have been reviewed.
- Steam survey answers match the approved build and store page, when Steam is a destination.
- Any Unity Asset Store submission includes an accurate AI description and honest marketing data.
- U.S. registration materials identify human-authored expression and disclose more than de minimis generated material when required.
- Other stores and release countries have been checked under their current rules.
- Plans, quotas and overage terms for AI services have been verified immediately before launch.
