Microsoft’s September 2026 Copilot roundup covers changes across Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, mobile, and IT administration. Microsoft reported several September rollouts, but the list also includes October updates and features still limited to its Frontier program—so an announcement does not mean every tenant already has access.
September rollouts for Copilot users
Microsoft published its September 2026 roundup on September 30. The company describes the following as September rollouts or availability changes. These are Microsoft’s reported statuses, not independent tests of performance or confirmation of access in every organization.

Copilot Chat, Teams, and Outlook
Copilot experiences in Teams and Outlook received a refreshed design in full-screen and side-pane views. Microsoft says the changes simplify navigation, streamline chat, and add ways to organize work. In prompts, users can type / to invoke agents inline and @ to invoke skills. Microsoft also reports improved matching for search results involving scanned PDFs.

Copilot on Android and mobile recording
Copilot-powered editing in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel on Android was reported as rolling out in September, following an earlier iOS release. The Microsoft Copilot mobile app’s Record feature can capture an in-person conversation or voice note and produce a transcript and summary for follow-up work; Microsoft also lists that feature as a September rollout.

Teams Phone Agent
Teams Phone Agent is an AI-powered calling receptionist. Microsoft says it can answer common questions, book or reschedule appointments, route callers to a department or employee, and pass along an AI-generated call summary. Microsoft states that it supports more than 60 languages. The roundup does not provide a plan-by-plan licensing matrix or independent performance evidence.
Word and PowerPoint
In Word, Copilot responses can include citations to relevant web and work content, and users can ask Copilot to arrange and modify images and shapes.
In PowerPoint, Skills package multi-step workflows for reuse. Microsoft names “Explain this presentation” and “Sharpen slide titles” as prebuilt examples. Administrators can publish approved Skills to selected users, groups, or the organization. PowerPoint connectors are also listed as a September rollout.
Rank #2
SharePoint and OneDrive
Microsoft reports that Copilot in SharePoint reached general availability in September. Its described capabilities include creating and organizing content, answering questions grounded in SharePoint, generating metadata, generating and editing images, producing site analytics reports, and autofilling metadata near real time.
Copilot in OneDrive was rebuilt on the same foundation as Copilot in SharePoint. Microsoft says it follows the same licensing approach and that updated capabilities rolled out in September. The roundup does not specify the exact license required for each capability.
Plugins, connectors, and agents
Microsoft describes new connectors, plugins, and agents for the Copilot app across areas including manufacturing, business services, finance, healthcare and life sciences, energy, HR, software, and retail. Named providers and sources include Autodesk, Fiscal AI, Morningstar Credit Analytics, ClinicalTrials.gov, PubMed, Rystad Energy, Webflow, NielsenIQ, Cloudinary, and Contentsquare.
Rank #3
The Microsoft plugin registry is reported as a September rollout. It gives IT administrators a centralized place to discover, approve, and manage plugins. SharePoint Framework interactive components and SharePoint content and action tools in Work IQ are separate Frontier rollouts, not universal releases.

October rollouts
Microsoft says Copilot-powered editing in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel on Android is rolling out in September, while the Copilot new-tab experience in Edge is rolling out in October. The Edge experience brings web search, chat, and exploration together.
Two other PowerPoint capabilities are listed for October: Brand Kit support for Skills and the ability for Copilot to continue long-running work after users leave PowerPoint. These should not be counted as September availability.
Rank #4
Frontier rollouts
Copilot Search becoming the default across SharePoint and OneDrive is described as a Frontier rollout. Microsoft says it combines natural-language understanding, semantic retrieval, and AI-generated answers grounded in supported content that the user is authorized to access. Frontier status is not the same as general availability to all users.

Authoritative sources for Copilot Search
Administrators can manage authoritative sources for Copilot Search in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Microsoft says they can designate up to 100 SharePoint sites, with controls to view, add, remove, and bulk import or export sources. The stated purpose is to help Copilot Search and Chat identify verified official content. Microsoft reports this as a September rollout.
Targeted Copilot adoption surveys
The Copilot Dashboard can launch targeted Pulse surveys using dynamically created audiences based on Copilot adoption data. Microsoft says survey reporting remains aggregated at the population level and does not expose individual users’ sentiment. This is also listed as a September rollout.

How to interpret availability
“Rolled out in September” means Microsoft reported a rollout during that month; it does not establish that every tenant or user had access by September 30. The roundup says its dates are tentative and subject to change. It also distinguishes general availability, Frontier rollouts, and future rollouts, which are not interchangeable statuses.
Before setting a deployment date or promising eligibility, check the current Microsoft 365 Copilot release notes and confirm licensing and tenant eligibility for the specific feature, platform, and release channel. The roundup does not provide a feature-by-feature license matrix.
