Why Doom Patrol is a good pick for team dynamics
If the appeal was watching a group of misfits learn to work together, start here. DC describes the team as superpowered people scarred by accidents and social rejection, brought together to investigate strange phenomena. That premise leaves room for both odd situations and character-focused drama, rather than making the series a straightforward squad of polished heroes. DC’s Doom Patrol listing identifies the series as running from 2019 to 2023.
For readers who would rather explore the team in print, DC lists The Doom Patrol (2026-) #1, written by Darcy Van Poelgeest and illustrated by Niko Henrichon. The listing gives a September 30, 2026 on-sale date, 24 pages, a Teen rating, and a U.S. price of $3.99. It describes a struggling team taking on heroes-for-hire work before a missing-cat case grows into something larger; treat it as a comic option, not a continuation of the television series.
#1 Best Overall
Pick The Penguin for a crime-saga detour
Choose The Penguin if you want less team-based superhero action and more criminal maneuvering in a comic-book setting. The eight-episode series stars Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb and is positioned by DC as a continuation of Matt Reeves’ The Batman crime saga. That makes it a specific adjacent branch, not a general next chapter for every DC show. See DC’s series description for its premise.
Try animation for a different format
Superman: The Animated Series is the clearest choice if you want an animated route focused on a central hero. DC dates the series to 1996–2000 and describes it as an action, adventure, and science-fiction story about Superman confronting villainy. It works as a format change from live action without requiring a viewing order supplied by the other recommendations. DC’s listing has the official series description.

Do not assume every DC series shares one timeline
DC’s August 11, 2025 overview distinguishes projects in its shared DC Universe from projects outside it. The article discusses Superman and Peacemaker season two within the shared-universe discussion, while identifying Matt Reeves’ Batman projects as outside that continuity. Separately, DC describes The Penguin as part of The Batman saga. Those labels matter: a tonal recommendation does not automatically imply a crossover or a place in one chronological marathon. The overview reflects plans and distinctions as of its publication date, not a guarantee of future schedules. Read DC’s August 2025 continuity overview.

If none is an exact fit, DC’s TV catalog is a useful discovery point. Its listing includes live-action and animated titles such as Creature Commandos, Batman: Caped Crusader, My Adventures with Superman, and Superman & Lois, alongside Peacemaker and The Penguin. Use the catalog to identify shows, then check a current service listing for your country before planning a watch: a DC catalog page does not establish local streaming rights. Browse DC’s TV catalog.
