Start with what the camera actually does—not the fact that a treadmill has one. Peloton says its Tread Vision and Tread+ Vision use a camera for running analysis and certain strength-training features, while the foldable Tread Flex does not include those movement-tracking camera features. Compare the camera’s functions and privacy controls with the treadmill’s hardware, full cost and space requirements before choosing a model.
1. Check what the camera is designed to do
A built-in camera is useful only if its features fit the way you plan to train. Peloton describes Run Analysis on Tread Vision and Tread+ Vision as using camera inputs to assess running metrics and provide a score and tips. It also describes camera-enabled strength features such as rep tracking and form feedback. These are manufacturer-described workout features, not a medical assessment or a guarantee of improved performance.

Look for a clear explanation of the camera’s role on the specific model you are considering. Confirm which workouts use it, what feedback appears on screen, and whether the feature is available in your market. A camera mentioned in a product description does not by itself establish that every model in a range has the same functions.
Peloton’s Tread product page identifies Tread Vision and Tread+ Vision as camera-equipped and distinguishes them from the camera-free Tread Flex. Peloton’s 2026 treadmill update also says Run Analysis is reserved for Tread Vision and Tread+ Vision in the described lineup, even as some software additions roll out to existing treadmills.

2. Verify camera privacy and controls
Before buying, find the manufacturer’s current explanation of whether camera use is optional, what happens to images or video, and where to disable the feature. Read the privacy terms for your region as well as the product description; controls and terms may differ by market or software version.
Peloton says on its Peloton IQ page that camera images and videos are not recorded or stored, and that users can opt out of camera use through Profile Settings. That is Peloton’s published statement, not an independent technical audit. If you want camera-based feedback but prefer not to use the camera for every workout, check that the available controls suit your preferences.

3. Compare the exact models—not just the product family
Peloton’s 2026 range illustrates why model-level checking matters. Tread Flex is the foldable option and lacks the movement-tracking camera features; Tread Vision and Tread+ Vision offer the camera-based features described above. Peloton describes Tread+ Vision as adding a slat belt and Sled Mode. The camera is therefore one part of a broader choice involving space and training hardware.

For a comparison beyond these stated distinctions, check the specifications for the version sold where you live: the available evidence does not establish a full independent comparison of belt, screen, incline, dimensions or long-term reliability. Give those practical details priority if they matter more to your workouts than camera analytics.

Do not treat the treadmill’s starting price as the whole cost of using its training features. Peloton lists All-Access Membership separately and says it is required for applicable treadmill content and features. Verify the current membership price, terms and requirements for your market, then decide whether you would use enough of the included content to justify the recurring charge.

Compare the total commitment with your actual use case. If you mainly want conventional running and do not expect to use camera analysis or guided strength features, the camera may not justify choosing a more expensive model. If you expect to use those tools regularly, weigh their value against the model’s price and membership requirement rather than assuming the camera alone makes the upgrade worthwhile.

5. Match the camera to your training goals
- Consider camera features if running metrics, on-screen feedback, or strength rep tracking are features you expect to use.
- Prioritize other specifications if folding storage, belt design, incline, screen setup or price matter more to your routine.
- Ask for specifics if the listing only says “AI” or “camera.” Look for named functions, compatible models, supported workouts and privacy controls.
- Keep claims in perspective: Peloton’s product materials describe features, but they do not establish independent accuracy testing, long-term reliability, clinical value or injury prevention.
