To transfer pictures from a Samsung phone to an iPhone, use Apple’s Move to iOS during initial iPhone setup, copy the files through a computer if the iPhone is already set up, or use Apple’s Google Photos-to-iCloud Photos copy option if your library is stored in Google Photos. The right route depends on where the pictures are and whether the iPhone has completed setup.
Choose a transfer method

Before choosing, check whether the iPhone is still in setup, whether the pictures are stored on the Samsung phone or in Google Photos, whether you have access to a computer, and whether the iPhone has enough available storage.

Transfer during iPhone setup with Move to iOS
Move to iOS is Apple’s method for transferring Android content, including camera photos, videos, and photo albums, while setting up a new iPhone. Follow Apple’s current instructions for the exact screens and compatibility requirements for your devices.

- Begin setting up the iPhone and choose the option to transfer data from Android when prompted.
- On the Samsung phone, follow the Move to iOS prompts and connect the devices as instructed.
- Turn on Wi-Fi on the Samsung phone, connect both phones to power, and keep them close together. Avoid using either phone for other tasks until the transfer finishes.
- If both devices support it, consider connecting them directly with a compatible USB-C data cable. Apple says this can make the transfer faster, but does not specify a fixed speed or completion time.
- Wait for the transfer to finish. The time depends on how much content you are moving. Check that the pictures and videos—including any files on an external Micro SD card—will fit on the iPhone.
- After setup, open Photos and check a sample of recent and older pictures, videos, and albums.
Apple’s instructions identify the content that Move to iOS transfers, but do not guarantee that every Samsung-specific edit, metadata field, or app-specific album arrangement will be preserved identically.

Copy photos through a computer
Use this route if the iPhone has already been set up or you want to select local files yourself. Apple says pictures and videos are usually in the DCIM folder on Android devices.
- Connect the Samsung phone to your computer and locate the pictures and videos you want to move, usually in DCIM. Copy them into a folder on the computer.
- Disconnect the Samsung phone, then connect the iPhone.
- On a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, use Finder. On macOS Mojave or earlier, use iTunes. On a PC, use the Apple Devices app.
- Use the relevant Apple app to sync the selected pictures and videos to the iPhone.
- Open Photos on the iPhone and verify the transferred files before deleting the computer copy or erasing the Samsung phone.
Apple documents this copy-and-sync workflow, but does not describe every file type or guarantee that the original album structure will be reproduced.

Copy a Google Photos library to iCloud Photos
If your pictures are already in Google Photos, Apple documents a route for copying pictures and videos directly into iCloud Photos without downloading them to a device first. Check Apple’s current instructions for eligibility and exclusions before starting; availability depends on account requirements.

Apple says the transfer does not delete the originals from Google Photos. Processing can take several hours to a few days, depending on the size of the library. Once it is complete, check the iCloud Photos destination before changing or deleting anything in the source library.

Check the transfer before wiping the Samsung phone
- Open several older and newer pictures, videos, and albums on the iPhone to confirm the material you care about arrived.
- If preserving edits, metadata, or album organization is important, check those details in sample files rather than assuming they transferred unchanged.
- Keep a separate backup until you have verified the destination library. Do not erase the Samsung phone based only on the transfer finishing message.
