Before sending USDC, confirm that the recipient accepts USDC on Solana, verify the token and destination details, and check the wallet’s live fee quote. A matching ticker or a Solana-looking address is not enough: USDC exists on multiple networks, and a successful on-chain transfer generally cannot be reversed.
Confirm the network and token
USDC is available on multiple blockchains. The sender and recipient must both use a route that supports USDC on Solana; a generic “USDC” listing at a receiving service does not establish that Solana deposits are supported. Check the service’s current deposit instructions and the network selected in both interfaces.

Tokens are identified on Solana by their mint addresses, not just by name, ticker, or logo. Solana’s official payments documentation lists this mainnet USDC mint: EPjFWdd5AufqSSqeM2qN1xzybapC8G4wEGGkZwyTDt1v. Confirm the token identity wherever the wallet or service exposes it. Solana’s payments documentation explains that tokens can share names while having different issuers and mint addresses.

A Solana wallet address is not a universal balance container for every token. Each token mint has a corresponding token account for the wallet. An associated token account (ATA) is deterministically derived from the wallet address, mint, and token program. The recipient does not need to sign or already hold USDC, but a token account must exist or be created for the transfer.

A sender may be able to include token-account creation in the transfer. If a custodial service is receiving the funds, however, its own deposit rules still apply. Use its current instructions for USDC on Solana, and check the complete address and any memo or tag it requires. Memo requirements depend on the receiving service; they are not a universal Solana rule.
A valid-looking Solana address can still be the wrong wallet, unsupported by the service, or otherwise unusable for your deposit. Solana’s address guidance distinguishes SPL token transfers from native SOL transfers; do not assume that any incorrect USDC destination is harmless or automatically recoverable. See Solana’s recipient-verification guidance.

Understand the fee and SOL requirement
Solana’s documentation lists a base transaction fee of 5,000 lamports and says a transfer may also have a variable priority fee. If a new token account must be created, the transaction can include an additional account-creation cost. The documentation estimates that cost at approximately 0.0029 SOL, or around $0.40 in its estimate; the dollar value is not a guaranteed current price. It says most transfers cost under $0.001, while a new account can raise the total. A separate payments overview reports a median fee of approximately $0.001 per transaction. These are documented estimates, not a promise for any individual transfer; check the wallet’s live quote. See Solana’s fee documentation and its payments overview.

Know what happens if the transfer fails or goes to the wrong place
Solana transactions are atomic: if an instruction fails, state changes from that transaction are reverted. The network fee is a separate matter; a failed transaction can still incur a fee. Check the transaction status in your wallet or an explorer and keep the transaction signature. Solana’s documentation covers transaction behavior and fees on failed transactions.
Atomicity does not make a successful transfer reversible. A completed mistaken transfer does not come with the familiar card-payment chargeback process. Recovery may depend on the recipient or receiving service cooperating, and it is not assured; there is no universal recovery procedure established for every service. That is why network, mint, destination, and any service-specific instructions need checking before you approve the transfer.

Use this pre-send checklist
- Open the recipient’s current deposit instructions and confirm that it accepts USDC on Solana.
- Check the network selection on both sides. An address’s format alone does not prove that a service has enabled USDC deposits on Solana.
- Verify the token or mint if the interface provides it. The official Solana mainnet USDC mint is
EPjFWdd5AufqSSqeM2qN1xzybapC8G4wEGGkZwyTDt1v. - Review the complete destination address and any memo or tag required by the receiving service.
- Check the amount, live fee quote, fee payer, and remaining SOL. If the destination token account needs creation, the total may include that setup cost.
- For a large transfer, consider a small test transfer if the extra fee and recipient rules make it practical. A test is a precaution, not a guarantee of recovery.
- After sending, wait for the wallet or explorer to report success and retain the transaction signature. A failed transaction may still cost a fee.
When comparing ways to send
Compare the receiving service’s explicit Solana USDC support, its address and memo instructions, the full quoted fee (including priority fees and account setup), who pays SOL fees, how transaction status is shown, and what support can realistically do if details are wrong. Wallet and exchange capabilities vary, so confirm these points with the actual service before withdrawing.
