It is not a three-wall presentation for the entire movie: the side projections appear during selected portions, and their duration varies by film. Check the specific screening and compare its local price with standard and other premium formats before booking.
What is ScreenX?
ScreenX is a cinema format that keeps the main image on the forward screen and extends selected visuals onto the auditorium’s left and right walls. The result is a wider, peripheral presentation intended to make some scenes feel more enveloping.

AMC describes the side imagery as specially crafted for select scenes. Cineworld says its system can use up to twelve additional projectors; that is an exhibitor-stated maximum, not a fixed projector count for every ScreenX auditorium. The number and implementation may vary by venue. AMC’s ScreenX overview and Cineworld’s explanation describe the format.
Does ScreenX show the whole movie on the side walls?
No. Side-wall imagery is used for selected portions, not necessarily the entire film. Cineworld says the amount of time with a 270-degree presentation varies by movie. The feature is therefore best judged title by title: a ScreenX label alone does not tell you how often the side walls will be used.

Check the specific film’s listing and screening details at your local cinema. The available information does not establish a standard runtime, percentage, or number of scenes that every ScreenX movie must use.
When is ScreenX worth it?
ScreenX is a reasonable choice when you want peripheral visuals, the particular film appears suited to a wider presentation, and the local ticket premium feels worthwhile to you. Its main distinction is the imagery extending to the sides—not a guarantee that every scene will be larger or more immersive.

Regal recommends action/adventure and science-fiction, especially films set in space, as genres that may suit ScreenX. That is the exhibitor’s guidance, not a guarantee that every film in those genres makes effective use of the format. Regal’s premium-format guide offers that recommendation.
It may suit you if
- You enjoy a wider field of visual activity and do not mind imagery entering your peripheral vision.
- The film’s setting or action seems likely to benefit from lateral expansion, and you have confirmed that the specific screening is in ScreenX.
- The difference between the ScreenX ticket and the alternatives at your cinema is acceptable to you.
You may prefer a standard screening if
- You would rather keep your attention on one forward-facing screen.
- You are unsure how much of the film uses the side walls and do not want to pay extra for a feature you may notice only occasionally.
- The local premium is too high for a presentation style you are not sure you will enjoy.
These are preference-based trade-offs, not results from a controlled audience study. No independent satisfaction statistic or universal value verdict establishes that ScreenX is worth the surcharge for everyone.

ScreenX vs. IMAX
The clearest distinction in Regal’s comparison is direction: ScreenX extends imagery onto the left and right side walls, while IMAX expands vertically. This is a basic comparison of presentation style, not a claim that one is technically better overall. Resolution, sound, seating, and film mastering depend on the individual auditorium and screening.
| What to compare | ScreenX | IMAX |
|---|---|---|
| Presentation direction | Lateral imagery on side walls, creating a panoramic effect. | Vertically expanded forward image, as described in Regal’s comparison. |
| What to check locally | Whether the film is scheduled in ScreenX, how it uses side imagery, and the ticket price. | The particular auditorium, screening, and ticket price. |
| Best fit depends on | Your interest in peripheral visuals and the film’s side-wall sequences. | Your preference for a taller forward-facing presentation. |
Regal’s ScreenX overview makes the directional distinction. Compare actual showtimes and prices at the venue rather than assuming either format is better in every cinema.

Where can you watch ScreenX, and what does it cost?
ScreenX is available only at equipped cinemas, and locations and showtimes can change. Cineworld’s page reported 23 ScreenX-equipped cinemas across the UK when checked on October 7, 2026; that exhibitor-reported count is a snapshot, not a permanent total. In the United States, AMC’s page lists current ScreenX locations and locations marked as coming soon. Check the current venue listing and showtimes before traveling or buying tickets.

Cineworld says ScreenX tickets cost slightly more than standard screenings, with exact prices shown on local cinema pages. That statement applies to Cineworld’s own offering; it does not establish a fixed surcharge for other exhibitors or countries. Compare the prices shown for your venue and date.
