Before buying Destiny 2 content, match the exact campaign, raid, dungeon, or other activity you want to play against the entitlements in the live listing for your platform. Some campaign stories are available to everyone, while other campaigns and particular raids or dungeons still require a paid expansion or Dungeon Key. Bungie also says planned live-service content updates ended with Update 9.7.0 on June 9, 2026, so a purchase now is access to listed content—not a promise of future planned releases.
Start with the activity you want to unlock
Destiny 2’s free-to-play baseline is substantial, but “free campaign,” “free activity,” and “free access to every associated add-on” are not interchangeable. Bungie’s available-content guide says the Shadowkeep and Beyond Light campaign stories are available to all players, along with a range of free activities and systems. It also identifies The Witch Queen, Lightfall, The Final Shape, The Edge of Fate, and Renegades as paid campaigns, with introductory missions available to free players.

That distinction matters when comparing the game’s content packs with its campaigns. Bungie’s Collection listing includes Shadowkeep Pack and Beyond Light Pack even though the respective campaign stories are free to all players. Check the live description to see which other content or entitlements a pack includes; do not assume that a free campaign means every add-on tied to that expansion is free, or that buying a pack is necessary just to play its free campaign.

- If your goal is a specific raid or dungeon, check that activity’s own access requirement. Owning a related-sounding expansion is not enough unless the listing says it grants the needed access.
- If you only want a particular add-on, compare its standalone listing with bundles rather than paying for a larger collection by default.
- If you own content already, check each item in the bundle against your account before buying; a bundle’s total contents may include entitlements you do not need.
A free introductory mission is also not the same as ownership of the full campaign. Use the mission as a way to sample the start of a story, then check the campaign’s full access requirement before expecting to continue. Likewise, the fact that a free player can see a raid or dungeon listed in the game does not by itself establish that they can launch it. For a specific activity, its named requirement—not its visibility in a menu—is the useful purchase check.

What Bungie lists in Destiny 2: The Collection
Bungie’s Collection page lists the following components. Its live store description is the authority for what a particular platform and region currently sell, so review that listing before checkout rather than treating the table as a guarantee of present availability, price, or standalone purchase options.

The Collection page also says that Vault of Glass, Crota’s End, and King’s Fall raids, plus the Prophecy dungeon, are available to all players. That statement is specific to those activities; it does not remove ownership requirements for other raids or dungeons.
Bungie describes the Collection as covering currently available expansions, while showing content packs and Reward Passes as separately named components within the bundle. Its available-content guide says Collection contents can also be acquired separately in a storefront of the player’s choice. Individual components and prices can vary by storefront, and the sources do not establish that the bundle is always the cheapest way to obtain any particular subset. The sensible comparison is the items you need at the prices shown in your own store—not the bundle’s headline size.

The table is a content map, not a substitute for the product page attached to your account and platform. If you are considering The Collection because it names many activities, check whether the listing grants access to the particular dungeon you want and whether the access is provided through a Dungeon Key. If it names a Reward Pass, read the current listing to understand which pass entitlements are included. Do not infer that every future or separately sold item is part of a collection simply because the package covers many expansions.
How to compare a standalone expansion, add-ons, and a bundle
Use the activity—not the bundle name—as your shopping checklist. A larger package may be convenient if it contains several things you intend to play, but it can be poor fit if you already own most of its contents or only want one locked activity.
- Write down the target. Name the campaign, raid, dungeon, pack, or Reward Pass you want. If you are shopping for a friend or group, confirm the exact activity name with them.
- Check the activity’s access condition. Bungie says specific raid and dungeon activities continue to require their corresponding expansions or Dungeon Keys. For dungeon access, look for an explicit key entitlement or the relevant dungeon in the product contents.
- Mark what you already own. Compare your account’s existing entitlements against every component of the standalone listing and the Collection. Do not pay for a duplicate component simply because it appears in a bundle.
- Compare live store listings on your platform. Check the storefront tied to the account and platform where you plan to play. Prices, regional availability, and standalone options are not established as universal, so use the final checkout price and item description shown there.
- Factor in account access. If you use Cross Save or move between platforms, check whether the entitlement is a platform DLC license, a Dungeon Key, or an item granted through a bundle. These can behave differently.
- Decide whether the listed content is enough for you. As of October 2026, Bungie’s stated policy is that no planned live-service content updates follow the June 9, 2026 Update 9.7.0 release. Buy for the content and access explicitly listed, not on an expectation of a future planned expansion or ongoing content roadmap.
There is no single “best value” choice established by the available listings. A player seeking several unowned items may prefer to compare the Collection’s full contents with individual purchases; a player who wants one dungeon should first price and verify that dungeon’s key or included entitlement. In either case, the final platform listing is more useful than assuming a bundle is automatically cheaper or that every component can be bought separately at all times.
For example, a player who wants only one campaign should compare that campaign’s own purchase option with any package that includes it, while checking whether they already own other listed content. A dungeon-focused player should start with the Dungeon Key requirement and see whether the key is sold separately or included in an edition they are considering. Someone who wants several raids, campaigns, and packs should total the relevant standalone listings as well as the Collection listing. These comparisons depend on the player’s current entitlements and regional storefront prices; there is no fixed price threshold at which one option is always better.

Also distinguish a discount from a broader entitlement. A low bundle price does not automatically mean every component is useful to you, and a standalone item may be preferable if it is the only thing missing. Conversely, an individually listed item may not be available in every store or configuration. Compare what appears at checkout on your platform rather than relying on old prices, another region’s listing, or a bundle name alone.
Dungeon Keys: what they unlock and where to check
A Dungeon Key is an access entitlement for specified dungeons. Bungie’s add-on support guide says keys may be included in expansion Deluxe Editions or bought separately. It describes separate purchase through Eververse, Hawthorne in the Tower, or a dungeon node on the Destinations map for 2,000 Silver. Those named examples may reflect older releases; verify the current key, route, and price in the live product listing and in-game options for your platform before spending.
The 2,000 Silver figure is Bungie’s stated cost for a Dungeon Key in that support guide; it is not a universal real-money price. Silver is bought through platform marketplaces or Eververse, and the amount of real money needed can depend on the platform and regional store. Do not infer a current bundle price or cash equivalent from the Silver amount alone.
Bungie’s guide says that Dungeon Keys can be included in expansion Deluxe Editions and cannot be game shared. If you are considering a Deluxe Edition, check that the desired key is explicitly included rather than assuming “Deluxe” covers every dungeon. If another person’s account owns the key, game sharing does not provide a substitute entitlement.

If you want to buy only a key, first check the current Destiny 2 in-game store options and the platform store listing for your account. Bungie’s support guide describes Eververse, Hawthorne, and a dungeon’s map node as routes for separate key purchases, but product names and routes can change. A June 9, 2026 Bungie Help forum question specifically asked how to purchase keys alone and whether that could be done through Xbox; treat that as a useful reminder to check Xbox’s live listing rather than evidence of a universal Xbox-specific price or route.
Before confirming a key purchase, verify the dungeon name it covers. A key is not a general pass to every dungeon, and access to one activity does not establish access to another. If a package uses broad language, look for the named key or specified dungeon in the included-content details. This avoids buying an edition that sounds relevant but does not include the access you intended.
Cross Save and platform ownership: avoid a costly setup mistake
Cross Save lets a player use their Destiny account across platforms, but it does not mean every DLC license transfers. Bungie specifically warns about Dungeon Keys purchased as part of expansion bundles. Its support guide says keys can travel with an account through Cross Save, but also advises fully activating Cross Save before logging into Destiny 2 on a platform where an expansion-bundle Dungeon Key was purchased. Logging in there first may cause the key to be lost.

- Only then log into Destiny 2 on the platform associated with the expansion bundle and verify the entitlement in-game.
That warning is specifically about a Dungeon Key obtained through an expansion bundle; it should not be generalized into a claim that every DLC license transfers or is lost in the same way. For a purchase on a new platform, verify the relevant expansion license and the key separately. The game’s account and platform license rules are distinct from whether your characters are available through Cross Save.
In practical terms, decide which account will be your active Cross Save account and finish its setup before first launching the game on a platform tied to a bundle Dungeon Key. If you have already logged in and an entitlement is missing, do not assume that signing out and back in will restore it. Bungie’s warning makes the sequence material, so consult its current add-on support instructions for the relevant purchase and contact Bungie Support if the key still does not appear.
Silver is tied to the Destiny release
Bungie describes Silver as in-game currency purchased with real money through a platform marketplace or Eververse and used for Eververse items. Its guide lists Destiny 2 Silver marketplace support for PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, Microsoft Store, and Epic Games Store. Silver is not the same thing as a platform DLC entitlement, and buying Silver does not itself establish ownership of an expansion or dungeon.
Bungie says Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 Silver balances do not transfer between releases. If you still have currency in one release, do not assume it will be available in the other. For the same reason, confirm you are purchasing Silver for the Destiny release and account you intend to use, and check the platform marketplace’s current amount and price rather than relying on an old price.
For a dungeon key, Silver is an in-game purchase currency, not a universal cash quote. The guide’s 2,000 Silver amount gives a denomination for the key in that support guidance, while the cost of buying enough Silver in real money is determined by the packages and prices shown by your platform marketplace. Check the amount, platform, and Destiny release before confirming a Silver transaction, particularly if you use more than one platform.
What the June 2026 update announcement changes
Bungie’s Monument of Triumph and Update 9.7.0 support guide states: “Following the release of Update 9.7.0 on June 9, 2026, Destiny 2 will no longer receive planned live-service content updates.” The same guide says Bungie may still issue hotfixes for game health and stability. It also says content available as of Update 9.5.6.3, together with content added in Update 9.7.0, will be available on and after June 9, 2026.

This announcement changes how to frame a purchase, not the ownership checks for existing activities. Bungie says access to specific raids and dungeons continues to require their corresponding expansions or Dungeon Keys. A player buying now should therefore base the decision on the playable content and access listed today, rather than expecting planned live-service content updates to add future material. The announcement does not say that paid activities become free.
It is also important not to read “no planned live-service content updates” as “the game will receive no technical attention.” Bungie’s guide leaves room for stability and game-health hotfixes. That caveat does not promise a particular future fix, feature, or content release; it simply distinguishes possible hotfixes from planned live-service content updates. When judging a purchase, treat the named campaigns, packs, passes, raids, and dungeons as the content being bought rather than assuming a future roadmap.
Before checkout: a short decision checklist
- Target identified: You know the exact campaign, raid, dungeon, or add-on you want.
- Requirement verified: The live listing explicitly includes the campaign or activity entitlement you need, including a Dungeon Key where applicable.
- Duplicates removed: You have checked what your account already owns before comparing bundles.
- Platform and region checked: You are looking at the store where you intend to buy, with the final price and item description visible.
- Cross Save planned: If a bundle includes a Dungeon Key and you use Cross Save, activation is completed before logging into the purchasing platform.
- Expectations current: You are buying access to listed existing content, with no expectation of planned live-service updates after June 9, 2026.
One final check is to keep unlike purchases separate in your mental calculation. A campaign or pack grants content entitlements; Silver is currency for Eververse items; and a Dungeon Key covers specified dungeon access. They may appear near each other in a store or in a broader package, but one type of purchase should not be presumed to substitute for another unless the live listing explicitly says so.
If purchased content does not appear
First confirm that the transaction completed on the intended platform account and that you are viewing the correct Destiny release. Then check whether the item is a platform license, an account-accessible key, or currency; those categories do not share identical ownership rules. Bungie’s license-restoration guide directs players to platform-specific steps for restoring purchased Destiny content. Follow the steps for the platform where the purchase was made, then consult Bungie Support if access remains missing. For a bundle Dungeon Key affected by Cross Save setup, use Bungie’s specific add-on guidance rather than assuming a routine license restore will resolve it.
Keep the purchase platform in view while troubleshooting: restoring a license is platform-specific, and a Cross Save account being available on a second platform does not prove that the second platform has the DLC license. Check that the content was purchased on the account currently signed in, review the corresponding store transaction, and use Bungie’s steps for that platform. If a transaction completed but access is still absent after license restoration, the right next step is platform or Bungie Support—not a second purchase made before checking the entitlement.
