It is designed for projects such as displaying captured images, browsing stored pictures with voice commands, and experimenting with motion or audio—not for touch input or fast animation.
What is the MaTouch ESP32-S3 E-Ink board?
Makerfabs identifies the product as the MaTouch ESP32-S3 7.5-inch Quad-Color E-Ink ePaper, SKU MAEI75C. Its wiki uses the model name Matouch_7.5_Eink. The integrated board brings together the display and control hardware needed for embedded display and interaction projects; it is more than a standalone e-paper panel. What does the display offer?
The 7.5-inch panel has 800×480 resolution and displays black, white, red, and yellow. Makerfabs’ wiki identifies the panel as KEGM075004E05, with a JD79665 controller, SPI interface, 24-pin FPC, 163.2×97.92 mm active area, and 0.204 mm pixel pitch. The listed full refresh time is about 20 seconds, making it better suited to images and occasional updates than animation or rapidly changing interfaces.

What can its documented examples do?
Capture a camera image for the screen
Makerfabs documents a camera example that initializes the camera and display, captures a frame, converts it to the screen’s resolution and color format, and refreshes the e-paper. The wiki identifies the camera as OV3660. This is a documented sample workflow, not a claim about image quality or capture speed.

- Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2: Connect to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks or use Bluetooth Classic and BLE for wireless sensors, smart devices, remote controls, home automation and other connected projects
- Flexible Power-Saving Modes: ESP32 power-management features support dynamic clock scaling and low-power operating modes, helping developers reduce energy use in compatible sensing, monitoring and connected-device applications, suitable for battery-powered Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
- USB-C Programming with CP2102: Connect through USB-C for power, sketch uploads and serial monitoring, while GPIO, UART, SPI and I2C interfaces support sensors, displays, motor drivers and other modules (USB-C cable not included)
- Over-the-Air Update Support: Configure OTA functionality through a compatible ESP-32 software framework to update deployed firmware over Wi-Fi without reconnecting the board by USB for every revision
Browse microSD images with voice commands
The voice example mounts a microSD card, looks for BMP files in the root images directory, and displays the first valid picture. The documented wake phrase is “Hi ESP”; the next and previous commands are “show next picture” and “show previous picture.” The instructions say to repeat “Hi ESP” before issuing another command. This is a specific sample interaction, not evidence of a measured microphone range or general voice-assistant capability.

What software and setup does it require?
Makerfabs’ wiki specifies ESP-IDF 5.4.2 and also lists Arduino support. Its setup instructions use a USB Type-C cable to connect the board to a computer. For the image-browsing demo, prepare a microSD card with BMP images in a root-level images directory. Consult the official wiki for the example project and board-specific setup details.

Who is this board suited to?
- Consider it if you want a comparatively large, four-color e-paper screen in an ESP32-S3 project and value the integrated microphone array, IMU, camera input, or microSD examples.
- Look elsewhere if your project needs touch input, smooth animation, or frequent rapid screen changes; there is no touch panel, and the listed full refresh is about 20 seconds.
- Check the package carefully if your build depends on a camera, battery, storage card, or USB-C cable being supplied rather than purchased separately.
