The project’s official sources explain how to contribute, but they do not independently document the specific deletion bug or verify its fix. Treat the incident details—including what failed and whether a change was merged—as the contributor’s firsthand account unless an issue or pull request confirms them.
What a card deletion bug in Orbit Board means
Orbit describes itself as a free, realtime, keyboard-first task manager. It supports viewing issues as a list or board, alongside features such as projects, cycles, sprints, documentation, saved views, notifications, and GitHub integration. The board is an interface for working with issues, not a separate product. The repository labels its latest source release 2026.09.08 and says self-hosting remains in Preview; that status does not establish that a preview deployment is ready for production. Without a linked issue or pull request, the exact symptom, reproduction steps, cause, code change, regression test, and outcome remain unverified. A useful incident account should distinguish what the contributor observed from what project records establish.

First identify where deletion fails
A delete problem can present differently depending on the layer involved. Orbit’s documentation describes changes being written to Postgres, published to Redis, and fanned out through a websocket to people permitted to see them. That architecture suggests questions to investigate; it does not establish which layer, if any, caused this incident. Orbit documentation overview
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Board control: Is the delete control absent, disabled, or unresponsive? A hidden or unavailable control is different from a deletion request that fails.
- Authorization: Does the server reject the action for the user or issue in question? Orbit’s guide says authorization is enforced server-side through shared policy code; hiding a UI control alone is not an authorization check.
- Server or domain operation: Does the request reach the application but fail while processing the deletion?
- Persistence: Does the issue remain stored after the application reports success?
- Realtime display: Does the deletion succeed for one viewer while another still sees the card? The documented websocket fan-out makes this a distinct question from whether the record was deleted.
Record the expected and actual result, user permissions, board and issue conditions, and whether another viewer sees the same state. Those observations help narrow the failure without prematurely assigning a cause.
Coordinate before changing code
Orbit’s contribution guide recommends choosing a small, scoped issue that identifies relevant file paths and commenting on it before starting. That gives maintainers a chance to assign the work and helps avoid duplicate effort. For work larger than a bug fix, the guide asks contributors to agree on the proposed shape before coding. Check the current issue and branch instructions before relying on any workflow details. Orbit contribution guide

Set up Orbit’s documented development environment
The contribution guide specifies Bun 1.3 or newer and Docker. It describes cloning the repository, installing dependencies, configuring the environment, starting local infrastructure, preparing and seeding databases, and launching the development server. It documents the web app on port 3000 and the realtime development service on port 3100.
Recommended Free Tools
- Install Bun 1.3 or newer and Docker, as required by the guide.
- Clone the official repository and install dependencies with Bun, following the current repository instructions.
- Copy
.env.exampleto.envand complete any environment configuration required by the guide. - Start local infrastructure, prepare and seed the databases, then run the development server using the documented commands.
- Open the web app at port 3000; the guide identifies port 3100 for the realtime development service.
The exact commands and setup can change, so follow the current contribution guide rather than inferring commands from this summary.

Implement the fix in the right place
Orbit’s guide asks contributors to follow the repository’s architecture and conventions. For a deletion defect, trace the action from the board interaction through the server-side operation and any resulting persistence or realtime update. The available project sources do not identify the incident’s actual component or cause.
- Keep authorization enforcement on the server, using the shared policy approach documented by the project.
- Use strict types and Zod validation for external input, as the guide specifies.
- Follow the repository’s shared theme tokens for visual changes.
- Put tests in the package-specific
tests/tree. - Avoid ordinary code comments, consistent with the guide’s comment policy.
These conventions are project-specific; confirm they still match the branch being changed.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Prove the regression is covered
Orbit’s contribution guide states: “A feature is not done until it has a test that would fail if the feature broke.” For a deletion fix, the regression test should exercise the relevant behavior and fail when the defect is present, then pass with the fix. The sources do not report a test result for the incident itself.
The guide says bun run verify runs lint, comment-policy, type checks, and tests, and recommends running it before pushing. If the change affects the interface, the pull request instructions request screenshots or a short recording; include both themes if styling changed. Orbit contribution guide

Submit a focused pull request
The guide recommends branching from main, keeping one unit of work per branch, describing what changed and how it was validated, linking the issue, and opening a pull request into main. When appropriate, include an issue-closing reference such as Closes #123. A clear report should make it possible for reviewers to understand the observed failure, the fix, and the evidence that the regression is covered.
For a first-contribution story about this particular bug, a linked issue or pull request is needed to substantiate the incident details and any review or merge outcome. Without that record, those details should be presented only as the contributor’s account, not as independently verified Orbit project history.
