Burlington’s standard return period is 30 days from purchase. Bring the original receipt, and make sure the merchandise is new, unused, unwashed, and in its original packaging. Burlington says refunds generally go back to the original payment method; returns without a receipt, certain late returns, and layaway returns may instead result in merchandise credit. Loyalty members may have up to 45 days at select stores, but that benefit is not universal. Burlington’s U.S. policy does not spell out a complete exchange process, so ask your store before relying on an exchange.
How Burlington’s return rules work
Burlington’s posted U.S. policy sets 30 days from the purchase date as the standard deadline. The policy also distinguishes between returns made within that period, returns made after it, and returns without a receipt. Those distinctions matter: a late return is not automatically treated the same way as a no-receipt return, and the terms do not promise that every return will be approved.

The policy text surfaced on a Burlington Stores staging subdomain, while the company’s loyalty and privacy information appears on burlington.com. Check Burlington’s live Return Policy page and your receipt for current terms before making a special trip, particularly if your purchase is close to a deadline or your situation falls outside the standard case.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor a straightforward return, the key questions are when you bought the item, whether you have the original receipt, and whether the merchandise still meets the stated condition requirements. Your payment method also affects how an approved refund is handled. If any of those details are unusual—such as a return after 30 days or a purchase paid by check—confirm the likely outcome with the store rather than assuming that every return follows the same route.

Return deadlines and possible outcomes
| Situation | What Burlington’s stated terms say | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Within 30 days, with the original receipt | Returns are due within 30 days of purchase. Refunds generally go to the original form of payment, subject to the condition requirements and Burlington’s verification and approval process. | Ask the store about any product-specific or local exception not addressed in the posted terms. |
| More than 30 days after purchase, with a receipt | The policy says receipted returns after 30 days receive merchandise credit, less service fees. | The terms do not explain the fee amount or precisely how this rule interacts with the separate rule for returns after 60 days. Ask the store how it will apply to your transaction. |
| After 60 days | The policy says returns after 60 days receive merchandise credit for the lowest selling price. | Confirm the value and whether the store will accept the item; all returns remain subject to verification and system approval. |
| No receipt | The policy describes merchandise credit for the lowest selling price, with acceptable photo ID. It does not promise a refund to the original payment method. | Confirm the location’s process and bring an accepted form of ID. |
| Qualifying loyalty return at a select store | Loyalty terms describe returns within 45 days at select stores. The extension is not stated as available at every location. | Ask an associate whether your store offers it and how it applies to your purchase, including receipt requirements. |
| Layaway deposit, payment, or returned layaway merchandise | The policy says these are handled as merchandise credit, less service fees. | Ask how the applicable fees and credit will be calculated for your layaway transaction. |
The published terms use both a 30-day threshold and a 60-day threshold. They do not fully explain the interval between those points: one statement says receipted returns after 30 days receive merchandise credit less service fees, and another says returns after 60 days receive credit for the lowest selling price. Do not assume the 60-day valuation rule replaces or clarifies the earlier rule. For a return more than 30 days after purchase, ask the store what credit value and fees apply before you proceed.
In practice, the 30-day deadline is the clearest route if you want a refund to your original payment method: bring the receipt and return the item in the required condition. The terms describe merchandise credit—not a standard payment refund—for no-receipt returns and specified late or layaway situations. Merchandise credit is not the same as money returned to your card or account, so ask what amount would be issued before completing a return if the value matters to you.
What to bring and what condition the item must be in
For a standard return
- Bring the original receipt. Burlington’s policy requests it for a return.
- Keep the merchandise new, unused, and unwashed.
- Return it in its original packaging.
- If the purchase was made by check or PIN debit, be prepared for the specific refund method described in the policy rather than assuming every refund is issued the same way.
If you do not have the receipt
Burlington’s policy lists four acceptable types of photo ID for a no-receipt return: a driver’s license, state-issued non-driver ID, passport, or military ID. The stated outcome is merchandise credit for the lowest selling price, not a refund to the original payment method. Bring one of those IDs, but understand that presenting ID does not guarantee approval: the policy subjects returns to third-party verification and system approval.

Burlington’s stated no-receipt process uses ID and may value the merchandise at its lowest selling price, which can differ from what you paid. The policy does not say that another form of purchase proof automatically substitutes for the original receipt, so ask the store what documentation it can accept.
How refunds are issued
For eligible returns, Burlington says refunds generally go to the original form of payment. The policy gives two specific exceptions: a purchase made by check is credited to the original account, while a PIN debit purchase receives cash. The source wording does not describe every payment type or establish an alternate refund method on request, so check with the store if the original account is closed or unavailable.

Merchandise credit is a different outcome from a refund to the original payment method. The policy names it for no-receipt returns, qualifying late returns, and layaway deposits, payments, or returned layaway merchandise, with the applicable lowest-price or service-fee terms noted above. Do not count on converting that credit to cash unless Burlington confirms that option for your case.
Do not infer a refund option from the payment method rules alone. The policy’s check and PIN debit provisions describe how those purchases are handled; they do not guarantee an exception to the deadline, condition rules, or verification process. If your payment account has changed or you cannot access it, call the store before going so you can ask how Burlington will handle an approved refund.
What the 45-day loyalty extension does—and does not—establish
Burlington’s loyalty terms describe an extended return period of up to 45 days at select stores. The loyalty landing page also advertises “Extended, Receipt-free Returns on Burlington Purchases,” but the detailed terms limit availability by store and retain third-party verification and Burlington’s right to limit or refuse refunds. The wording therefore should not be read as a companywide, unconditional promise of receipt-free returns.
Before relying on the extension, ask an associate whether the particular store participates and whether your purchase qualifies. The publicly surfaced loyalty terms do not establish all details of receipt-free processing or state whether every transaction receives the same outcome. Keep any receipt and purchase records you have; the advertised benefit is not a reason to discard proof of purchase.
The stated window is up to 45 days at participating locations, compared with 30 days under the standard policy. That difference is useful only if your store offers the benefit and your purchase qualifies; it does not remove the stated condition requirements or verification process. Check the location and transaction details first, especially if you are depending on receipt-free handling or expect a particular refund outcome.

Does Burlington allow exchanges?
Burlington’s U.S. materials located for this policy do not set out a separate, complete exchange procedure. They do not establish whether a customer must first return an item, whether an exchange is processed as a distinct transaction, or how a price difference is handled. Burlington’s privacy policy recognizes returning or exchanging a purchased product as a customer interaction, but that statement does not explain the exchange mechanics.
If you want a different size, color, or item, contact or visit the store before assuming an exchange is available on particular terms. Ask whether the store can make the exchange directly, what proof of purchase and item condition it requires, and how it would handle any price difference. Those are questions to resolve with the location; the posted material does not supply a universal exchange promise.
When you call, describe the item and what you want to exchange it for, then ask whether the store handles that request as an exchange or requires a return followed by a separate purchase. Also ask which deadline applies and whether you should bring the receipt, packaging, and any other purchase details. These questions help clarify the store’s process without assuming that an exchange has the same terms as a standard refund.
What happens if Burlington cannot verify a return
Burlington says all returns are subject to a third-party verification process and system approval. The policy says the company may collect ID information and return transaction history and enter that information into the processor’s system where permitted by law. It also reserves the right to limit or refuse a refund.
That means a receipt, acceptable ID, and apparently eligible merchandise are necessary pieces of a return, but the policy does not guarantee approval in every case. If a return is declined or the offered credit differs from what you expected, ask the associate which policy term applies and whether a manager can review the transaction. Keep the receipt and any return paperwork so you can describe the purchase and the decision accurately.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
The verification language applies broadly: Burlington says all returns are subject to the process, not only transactions without a receipt. Bringing the requested documentation can help establish the purchase details, but it does not override system approval or the company’s stated right to limit or refuse a refund. If the outcome is unexpected, ask which part of the policy was applied and what information the store used to determine the available resolution.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical checklist before you go
- Check the purchase date. Compare it with Burlington’s 30-day standard period. If it is beyond 30 days, ask about the late-return credit and any service fees; if it is beyond 60 days, confirm how the lowest-selling-price term applies.
- Locate the receipt. Bring the original receipt when possible. Without one, bring one of the four photo IDs Burlington lists and expect merchandise credit rather than a payment refund.
- Inspect the item. Make sure it is new, unused, unwashed, and in original packaging, as the posted policy requires.
- Check the payment type. Burlington’s stated handling differs for check and PIN debit purchases; ask if your original payment method is no longer available.
- Call or visit the store for exceptions. Confirm loyalty participation, an exchange request, layaway treatment, or a product-specific concern with the location before traveling.
- Bring the records to the counter. Have the item, receipt or accepted ID, and any relevant purchase details ready for the store’s verification process.
If your situation falls into more than one category—for example, a loyalty-member purchase with no receipt, or a layaway return after the standard deadline—do not combine the rules yourself. Ask the store which terms govern that transaction and what credit or refund outcome, if any, applies. The public terms do not explain every overlap between deadlines, loyalty eligibility, receipt status, and layaway.
Product exceptions and local rules
The policy information available here does not provide a complete list of excluded product categories or state-specific return rules. If the product is unusual, if the store has told you a special condition applies, or if you believe a local consumer-protection rule affects the transaction, ask Burlington directly and consult the applicable local requirements. Do not assume that a rule for another retailer, another country, or a different Burlington-branded business applies to Burlington’s U.S. stores.
