In many cases, a platform simply licensed an older show and made it easier for viewers— including people born after its original run—to discover or revisit it. Seinfeld, The Simpsons, Friends and Full House are examples supported by audience data or industry reporting; Arrested Development is a different case, with streaming services ordering new episodes.
What “a second life on streaming” means
A streaming rediscovery happens when an older series finds viewers through an on-demand catalog. That can happen without any new episodes: a show is licensed, added to a service and watched by people who missed its original broadcast or want to revisit it.

A formal revival is different. It involves making new episodes after the original run ended. Streaming can enable both outcomes, but a catalog listing alone is not evidence of a reboot. Historical reports also do not establish where a series is available today; rights and catalogs change by service and country.

What the audience evidence shows
Nielsen’s March 2023 analysis found that The Simpsons and Seinfeld were among the 25 most-streamed programs among U.S. women aged 18–34 in 2022. Across those 25 programs, viewers in that demographic streamed almost 105 billion minutes; 18 were licensed library titles, accounting for just under 77 billion minutes. These figures describe a specific audience and year, not an all-viewer ranking or a current chart. Nielsen’s analysis of women’s streaming viewing also notes younger co-viewing for The Simpsons.

A separate, earlier data point illustrates the scale of Seinfeld’s arrival on Netflix. According to Nielsen data reported by Next TV, the sitcom generated 590 million U.S. streaming minutes during the week of Oct. 4–10, 2021, soon after its Netflix debut. About 25% of Netflix users streaming it that week were born after its NBC run ended in 1998. This is a one-week result from 2021, not a measure of its current popularity. Next TV’s report on the Nielsen figures provides that historical snapshot.
Four examples of ’90s shows finding new viewers
Seinfeld: a library hit with a younger audience
Seinfeld is the clearest quantified example here: Nielsen included it among the most-streamed programs for women aged 18–34 in 2022, and the 2021 Netflix-week data showed that a portion of its audience was born after the sitcom’s original NBC run. The two measures come from different years and should not be treated as a like-for-like trend line.

The Simpsons: long-running animation in a new viewing context
Nielsen also placed The Simpsons among the 25 most-streamed programs for women aged 18–34 in 2022 and described younger co-viewing. That evidence supports continued streaming appeal, but it does not establish that the series was revived: the point is renewed access to an existing program.

Friends: a familiar sitcom discovered anew
A 2017 Los Angeles Times report described streaming executives seeing strong performance from older shows, including Friends, and reported that younger viewers were discovering it. The article recalled co-creator Marta Kauffman hearing a young viewer ask, “Have you seen this new show called ‘Friends’?” That account captures the generational surprise of rediscovery; it is not a current audience measurement. The Los Angeles Times report on nostalgia and streaming gives the period context.

Full House: catalog availability, not a revival claim
The same 2017 report included Full House among older, familiar titles competing for streaming viewers and discussed Hulu’s then-planned library addition. That platform detail is historical. It should not be used to tell readers where the show streams now, and a past catalog addition is not itself a new season.
When streaming really did bring back new episodes
Arrested Development: the revival case
Arrested Development belongs in a different category from a show that was simply licensed. The Los Angeles Times reported in 2017 that streaming services had ordered fresh episodes of canceled series, including this one. It is a useful example of streaming as a source of new installments, rather than just a route to an older catalog. The distinction matters: renewed access to an old season and a production revival are separate outcomes.

Gilmore Girls: relevant to streaming, but not a ’90s debut
Gilmore Girls also appears in reporting about streaming discovery and revival, but Nielsen identifies its debut year as 2000. It may fit a broader discussion of shows that gained a later streaming audience, yet it does not qualify as a series that debuted in the 1990s. Keeping that date clear avoids stretching the decade in a list of ’90s shows.
Where to watch these shows now
There is no dependable platform list in the historical evidence above. Streaming rights can move between services, differ by territory and change over time, so check the show’s current listing in your country before subscribing or planning a watch-through. A platform mentioned in a report from 2017 or 2021 is not proof of availability in 2026.

The evidence supports several illustrative examples, not a verified ranking of eight titles. Audience measurements are available for Seinfeld and The Simpsons; the cited industry reporting discusses Friends, Full House and the formal revival of Arrested Development. The research also identifies Gilmore Girls as a boundary case rather than a ’90s debut. Adding more titles without comparable, specific evidence would make the list look more complete than the facts allow.
