Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsStop before signing in, paying, or sharing personal information. A full-page “Your connection is not private” warning means Chrome found a problem involving the site, the network, or your device; it does not, by itself, identify the cause or prove the site is malicious. Check the exact error and work through the safe checks below before trying again.
What a certificate warning means
A website certificate helps Chrome authenticate a site and secure its HTTPS connection. If Chrome cannot verify the connection, it may show a full-page “Your connection is not private” warning and an error such as NET::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID, NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID, or ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID. Google explains that the problem may involve the site, network, or device; the warning alone does not establish which one is responsible. Google Chrome Help: Fix connection and privacy errors

Do not confuse this full-page warning with Chrome’s ordinary “Not secure” indicator or a red Safe Browsing warning. They are different browser messages and do not mean the same thing. Google Chrome Help: Check if a site’s connection is secure
What to do, in order
- Stop before submitting sensitive information. Do not sign in, enter payment details, or send personal information while the full-page privacy warning is displayed. Chrome warns that information on a non-private connection may be seen or changed. Google Chrome Help: Fix connection and privacy errors
- Record the exact error and context. Note the address, the full warning or code, whether it affects one site or several, and whether you are using public Wi-Fi, a VPN, or a work or school network. Chrome lists certificate errors involving invalid dates, authority, name mismatches, weak signatures, and certificate transparency. Google Chrome Help: Fix connection and privacy errors
- Check your device’s date and time. An incorrect clock can trigger “Your clock is behind,” “Your clock is ahead,” or
NET::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID. Correct the date, time, and time zone in your device settings, then reload the page. Google Chrome Help: Fix connection and privacy errors - On public Wi-Fi, complete the sign-in portal. Hotels, airports, and cafés may require you to accept terms or sign in before ordinary browsing works. Chrome suggests opening an HTTP page to prompt the portal, completing its sign-in, and then retrying the site. Do not enter sensitive details into a page that still shows the certificate warning. Google Chrome Help: Fix connection and privacy errors
- Check whether a Chrome extension is involved. On a computer, open the site in an Incognito window. If it works there, an extension may be causing the issue; review extensions and disable a suspect one before testing again. This is a Chrome troubleshooting step, not a confirmed fix for every browser or device. Google Chrome Help: Fix connection and privacy errors
- Install available operating-system updates. Chrome includes updating the operating system among its troubleshooting steps for connection and privacy errors. Follow the update process for your device, then try again. Google Chrome Help: Fix connection and privacy errors
- Handle HTTPS inspection cautiously. Some security software scans encrypted connections, and managed work or school networks may use an HTTPS-intercepting proxy. Chrome describes temporarily turning off an antivirus HTTPS-scanning feature as a diagnostic step; if you do this, turn it back on afterward. On a managed device or network, contact IT rather than changing certificates yourself. Google warns: “It isn’t recommended that you install a certificate on your own, as it’s usually a security risk.” Google Chrome Help: Fix connection and privacy errors
Use the pattern to decide where to escalate
| What you observe | What it may indicate | Safe next step |
|---|---|---|
| One site only | A site certificate or configuration issue is plausible. | Check the address carefully. If the warning persists, contact the site owner. |
| Many unrelated sites | A device clock, network sign-in, extension, security software, or managed proxy issue is plausible. | Check the time and network context, try Chrome Incognito on a computer, and update the operating system. Contact IT if the device or network is managed. |
| Only on public Wi-Fi | A captive portal sign-in may be incomplete. | Complete the Wi-Fi portal sign-in before retrying. |
| Only on a work-managed device or network | A managed HTTPS-intercepting proxy may be involved. | Ask the administrator for help; do not install a certificate independently. |
These patterns are clues, not proof of a cause. Chrome’s warning can reflect a site, network, or device problem. Google Chrome Help: Fix connection and privacy errors
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
If the warning remains
If the problem appears limited to one site after you have checked the address and basic device or network causes, contact the site owner. If it happens on a managed work or school device or network, contact the administrator. Do not make bypassing the warning your routine workaround: it does not resolve the underlying certificate, network, or device issue. Google Chrome Help: Fix connection and privacy errors
