If your Windows 11 PC will not wake, press its power button once and give it time to respond. If the computer seems to be running but the screen stays black, press Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B to reset the graphics driver. Wake inputs and available power settings vary by device, so use your manufacturer’s documentation if these steps do not match your PC.
Try the wake method your PC supports
Press the PC’s power button once. Some computers can also wake when you press a keyboard key, click a mouse, or open a laptop lid, but not every PC supports every method. Check your computer’s documentation to confirm its supported wake input. Allow a short time for the display and sign-in screen to return before trying another step.

If the PC is on but the screen is blank
Press Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B. Microsoft says this shortcut resets the graphics driver and can help when Windows is running but the display is blank. If the screen remains blank, follow Microsoft’s blank-screen troubleshooting guidance.

If a connected device such as a keyboard, mouse, or monitor is malfunctioning after the PC wakes, disconnect it and reconnect it. Restart the PC if needed, then check that the relevant device drivers are current. Microsoft also recommends consulting the computer manufacturer’s documentation when device-specific behavior is involved. See its guidance on sleep, hibernation, wake inputs, and devices.

Review the screen and sleep timeouts
In Windows 11, open Settings > System > Power & battery > Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts. Review the screen-off and sleep durations and adjust them if they do not fit how you use the PC. Which controls appear can depend on the computer’s capabilities and manufacturer configuration. Microsoft’s Windows 11 power settings guidance describes these controls.
Consider hibernation for longer breaks
Sleep resumes more quickly, while hibernation uses less power and may not be available on every PC. If wake problems recur during longer periods away, hibernation can be an alternative when your computer supports it. See Microsoft’s explanation of sleep and hibernation for the distinction.

Escalate carefully if the problem keeps returning
If the PC cannot start normally or the wake failure persists, use Windows recovery options, beginning with the least disruptive action that fits the problem. Back up important files before recovery: some options can result in data loss. Microsoft describes available recovery options and how to reach Windows startup settings.
Use Safe Mode as a diagnostic step
Safe Mode starts Windows with only essential services and drivers. It can help you investigate whether a recurring problem is related to something that does not load in that limited startup state, but it is not a guaranteed repair. Follow Microsoft’s startup-settings instructions to access it.
