If T-Mobile service stops while you’re roaming, first identify whether you have no network registration, failed calls or texts, no mobile data, or only slow data. Check that your location and device are supported, roaming is permitted on your line, and the relevant phone setting is enabled. For international roaming, T-Mobile recommends manually trying each available partner network at least three times, then restarting the phone. Domestic partner roaming has different coverage and data-allowance rules.
Start by identifying what stopped working
Note what the phone shows and which services fail. “No service” or no network registration calls for different checks than a phone that can call and text but cannot use mobile data. Also check whether service works on T-Mobile’s own network: a problem that occurs only while roaming points toward location, partner availability, roaming settings, or line eligibility, but does not by itself identify the cause.

Why partner-network access can stop
Roaming is not guaranteed at every location. A connection depends on whether a partner serves the place you are in, whether your handset supports the available network, and whether your plan and line settings allow access. T-Mobile’s guidance distinguishes domestic U.S. partner roaming from international roaming; the applicable coverage and data rules are not interchangeable. Check T-Mobile’s domestic roaming guidance and its current coverage map before relying on service at a destination.
International roaming: restore network registration
T-Mobile’s international troubleshooting guidance recommends these checks when service is unavailable abroad. Destination and plan rules vary, so use the destination list and your account terms rather than assuming every step applies everywhere.

- Confirm that T-Mobile offers service in the destination and that your handset is compatible with the available network.
- Turn Airplane mode off.
- Where required, enable data roaming by dialing #RON# (#766#). T-Mobile identifies this as a data-roaming step, not a universal fix for calls, texts, or registration. Its guidance notes that rules differ by destination, including some destinations such as cruise ships.
- Open the phone’s network-selection settings and manually try each T-Mobile roaming partner available in that country at least three times.
- Power the phone off, wait about 10 seconds, then turn it back on.
- Check whether an international roaming block is active on your line. If the checks fail, T-Mobile support can investigate account-specific restrictions and device provisioning.
T-Mobile’s international troubleshooting page uses a threshold of 215+ Simple Global countries and destinations when describing the relevant destination group. Check the current destination list and plan terms before applying that threshold to a specific trip.
If international calls or messages fail
Enter the number in the correct international format for the country you are calling. If picture messaging alone fails, first confirm that mobile internet works. If you are connected to Wi-Fi and using Wi-Fi Calling, follow T-Mobile’s separate Wi-Fi Calling troubleshooting guidance rather than treating that as a roaming-network registration issue.

If international data is unavailable or slow
Check the allowance and roaming setting
Look for a carrier message that your high-speed international data limit has been reached. T-Mobile says that after the limit, speeds are reduced to 256 kbps until the next bill cycle; an International Pass is an option for adding high-speed international data. This limit-related slowdown is different from having no network registration.

T-Mobile’s data troubleshooting guidance advises checking APN and data configuration, including IPv4/IPv6 Auto or IPv4 Only where applicable. Its BYOD APN guidance lists fast.t-mobile.com for LTE devices and epc.tmobile.com for non-LTE devices. It specifies an APN protocol of IPv4/IPv6 and an international roaming protocol of IPv4/IPv6 or IPv4 only. Menu names and steps depend on the device; follow the instructions for your handset and avoid changing settings you do not understand.

Domestic U.S. partner roaming
Outside T-Mobile’s U.S. network areas, a phone can automatically switch to a partner network when one is available and data roaming is enabled. T-Mobile classifies partners as standard or preferred. Some preferred partners may provide courtesy data beyond the plan’s included amount, but the amount varies by partner and may change or be removed.
