If ChatGPT’s virtual try-on changes your face, body shape, or details of the garment, treat the image as an imperfect draft. Ask for a more constrained edit that names the clothing change and spells out what must stay the same. You can also select an area for a local correction, but inspect the whole image afterward: edits can extend beyond the selected area. A try-on is only a visual approximation, not a guarantee of product accuracy, fit, or size.
Why ChatGPT may change details beyond the clothes
OpenAI describes shopping try-on as an image generated with ChatGPT Images. On eligible clothing and accessory listings, select Try on, then take or upload a selfie. You can also upload a clothing or accessory image in a conversation and ask ChatGPT to show how it might look on you. The result is a generated preview, so it may alter details you did not ask to change.

OpenAI cautions that “Try-on images may not represent the product or your appearance exactly and do not guarantee fit or size.” The image can help you imagine an outfit, but it is not a reliable measurement or a substitute for checking the item itself. OpenAI’s shopping guidance explains the feature and its limitations.
How to correct an unwanted change
1. State the clothing change and what must remain fixed
Make a fresh, specific request. Name the garment to change, then list the facial, body, and scene details that should remain unchanged. For example:

Edit the image to dress the woman using the provided clothing images. Do not change her face, facial features, skin tone, body shape, pose, or identity in any way. Preserve her exact likeness, expression, hairstyle, and proportions. Replace only the clothing, fitting the garments naturally to her existing pose and body geometry with realistic fabric behavior. Match lighting, shadows, and color temperature to the original photo so the outfit integrates photorealistically, without looking pasted on. Do not change the background, camera angle, framing, or image quality, and do not add accessories, text, logos, or watermarks.

In the image editor, select the area that needs correction and describe the change. You can also enter an edit description without making a selection. A selection can help focus the request, but it is not a strict boundary: OpenAI notes that highlights may be imprecise and edits may affect areas outside them.
