If an app store says you are too young, asks you to verify your age, or hides an app, first identify which restriction is responsible. Your account’s age, a parent-managed content filter, the app’s store rating, and an age rule set by the developer are separate things—and each needs a different fix. Don’t enter a false birth date or try to bypass a parent’s settings.
Why does the App Store think you’re too young?
An age-related block can come from the account, the device or family settings, or the app itself. A store may also require an age check because of local rules. Start by noting the store, device, country or region, exact warning, account type, and whether the problem affects one app or several. That pattern helps narrow down the cause.

Before changing anything, confirm that the account currently signed in to the store is the account you intend to use. A correct age on a different account will not resolve the restriction.

How to fix an age restriction on Google Play
If Google asks you to verify your age
Use the verification prompt or Google’s official age-verification help to see the options offered for your account and region. Google documents identity-document and credit-card flows, but the available methods vary by account, device, and region. In the documented ID flow, you can confirm or correct the birth date as part of submitting verification. A card check may create a pending authorization rather than a charge; Google says it can remain for one to fourteen business days depending on the bank.

Submit documents or payment details only through Google’s official verification channel. If the flow does not offer a correction you need, contact Google Account support rather than trying a different date.
If a child account cannot see an app
Ask the parent to review the child’s Play settings in Family Link. Google’s instructions are to select the child, open Controls > Google Play, and review the allowed maturity level. Apps above that level may not appear to the child.

Google Play content restrictions can also be set locally on an Android device. Those controls apply to the device where they are configured, and different users on one device can have different controls. A parent should check the relevant profile and device rather than changing settings on an unrelated account.
If only one app is unavailable
Check the app’s Play Store listing and the developer’s eligibility rules. Google’s guidance describes cases where a developer makes an app unavailable to children below age 13 or the applicable country age, or restricts access to accounts under 18. A parent’s local content filter may not override a developer’s separate age requirement.

How to fix an age restriction on Apple’s App Store
If Screen Time is blocking a child’s app
Ask the parent or family organizer to review the child’s Screen Time app and content limits against the app’s rating. Apple says a child whose limit is below an app’s rating sees a content-restrictions message. Where Ask to Buy is enabled, the child can request an exception and the parent or guardian can approve or decline it. The decision remains with the parent; an exception request is not a way for a child to bypass the family setting.
An approved exception can later be removed. Apple says removing it stops access and hides the app without deleting it. If the app’s rating seems wrong
Apple’s App Store rating is based on the developer’s answers to an age-rating questionnaire, which covers content descriptors, in-app controls, and capabilities. Ratings can differ by region and help inform parental controls. If the listing appears inaccurate, contact the app developer or Apple Support rather than assuming your account age is the problem. Apple explains the rating process in its App Store Connect age-rating guidance.
If an adult Apple account is treated as a child account
Use Apple Account settings or Apple Support for the account-specific correction process. The available guidance does not establish one universal birth-date correction path for every account, so avoid guessed menu steps or an inaccurate date.

What if the store or app still blocks the download?
- Check the account and region. Confirm the store account currently signed in, its saved birth date or age status, and the country or region associated with the store.
- Identify who controls the restriction. Use the warning text and whether one or many apps are affected to distinguish an account verification prompt, family filter, app rating, or developer eligibility rule.
- Ask the family organizer to review child-account controls. For Apple, check Screen Time and any Ask to Buy request. For Google Play, check the child’s Family Link maturity setting and any device-level Play restriction.
- Contact the developer if the issue is app-specific. Include the app name, store country or region, displayed rating or eligibility notice, and the exact error. Ask whether the app is intentionally restricted for your account age or location.
- Contact platform support if account data or verification is the issue. Provide the exact message, device and operating-system version, store country or region, and whether the account is adult, child, or supervised. Do not send identity documents by email or to an app developer; use only the platform’s official verification channel.
What not to do
- Do not enter a false birth date to make an age gate disappear. It can create further account or verification problems.
- Do not try to bypass a parent’s controls. Ask the parent or guardian to review the setting or decide whether to approve an exception.
- Do not assume that changing a device filter will override an age rule imposed by the developer.
- Do not rely on forum instructions for account-specific correction menus when the platform’s official route is unclear.
Other app stores and family-control systems
For a store or family-safety system other than Apple or Google Play, use the affected account provider’s official support route. The correct birth-date correction and family-restriction steps can depend on the account and country; do not use unverified menu paths or third-party services that promise to remove the restriction.
