When a torrent tracker stops responding, first check the tracker’s status and message in your torrent client. Then compare other tracker entries and torrents before changing network settings: a tracker that has not yet been contacted is different from one that answered improperly, and a stalled download can also be caused by a weak swarm.
Read the tracker status before changing settings
Open the affected torrent’s tracker tab or tracker list and note the status and any accompanying message. Status labels vary by client. In the qBittorrent WebUI API documentation for qBittorrent v4.1–v4.6.x, the documented statuses distinguish between a tracker that has not been contacted, one that is working, one that is updating, and one that was contacted but did not work properly.

- Not contacted: The client has not yet tried to reach that tracker. This does not establish that the tracker is offline.
- Updating: The client is attempting an update; check again after it completes.
- Working: The tracker responded successfully.
- Contacted but not working: qBittorrent’s API documentation defines status 4 as: “Tracker has been contacted, but it is not working (or doesn’t send proper replies).” This means the tracker did not provide a proper response; it does not, by itself, explain why. See the qBittorrent WebUI API documentation for its version-specific status definitions.
Use your client’s current labels if they differ from qBittorrent’s API terminology.

If one tracker fails but another works
Treat the issue as specific to the failing tracker or its response before changing broad network settings. In qBittorrent, the FAQ recommends enabling Always announce to all trackers when the client is contacting only one tracker. The exact menu wording and location can differ by release. See the qBittorrent FAQ.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
If every tracker on one torrent fails
Check another torrent in the same client. If the problem affects only one torrent, the issue may be limited to that torrent or its swarm rather than the whole client connection.
If multiple torrents are affected
A wider pattern makes a client or network connection issue more plausible. It still does not prove that a particular tracker is offline: check the tracker’s own status or support page if it publishes one.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
Check whether the torrent is private
For private torrents, qBittorrent documents that DHT, Peer Exchange (PeX), and Local Peer Discovery (LSD) are disabled. That is expected behavior, not evidence on its own that the tracker or client is broken. Do not interpret the absence of peers discovered through those methods as a tracker outage. See the qBittorrent FAQ.
Test connectivity only when the pattern points to the network
First check whether ordinary internet access works and whether the issue affects more than one torrent. If Wi-Fi-specific trouble or filtering is plausible, BitTorrent Inc. suggests trying another network as a diagnostic test. If the torrent works on the other network, that points toward a difference in the original network; it does not prove the tracker itself is online or repair a tracker service outage. BitTorrent Inc. also identifies poor swarm health as a separate possible reason a download can stall. See its download progress and stalled-download troubleshooting and Wi-Fi troubleshooting.

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
Retry normally; avoid treating repeated announces as a fix
A tracker may be temporarily unreachable. Use your client’s ordinary retry or announce control, then give it time to update. There is no universal retry interval established in the cited documentation, and repeated forced announces are not a guaranteed remedy. If the tracker publishes a status or support page, consult it for service-specific information.

Port forwarding instructions for qBittorrent’s embedded tracker apply when you are running your own tracker and need it to be reachable from outside your local network. They are not a general fix for a third-party tracker that is not responding. See the qBittorrent embedded-tracker guide.
