First, confirm that the battery and charger are made for the same Greenworks voltage platform, then check the outlet and charger contacts. If the battery was recently used or is too hot or cold, let it reach room temperature before trying again. Use the LED instructions in the manual for your exact charger; if the problem persists, stop and contact Greenworks rather than opening or repairing the battery.
Start by checking battery and charger compatibility
Read the voltage and model number printed on the battery and charger. Greenworks batteries are intended for tools on the same voltage platform, and chargers are platform-specific; some product-series exceptions apply. Do not assume that a charger fits every Greenworks battery. Check the compatibility details for your exact models in Greenworks’ battery and charger compatibility information and manuals.

For example, Greenworks identifies its 40V charger as compatible with its 40V lithium-ion batteries, but that example does not establish compatibility across other platforms or series. See the 40V charger information and verify your own battery and charger model before proceeding.
Check the outlet and charger contacts
- Make sure the outlet is switched on. Test it with another device or tool to confirm it has power.
- With the charger unplugged, visually check its contacts for debris or foreign material. Do not scrape the contacts or apply liquids; follow the exact manual if it gives further instructions.
- Check the battery and charger for visible damage. Do not continue if the battery is cracked or broken.
Greenworks manuals include checking outlet power and charger contacts among the basic steps when charging fails. Consult the manual for your model rather than assuming every charger has the same indicator meanings or procedures.

Let a recently used or temperature-affected battery rest
If you have just used the battery, remove it from the charger and let it rest indoors at room temperature for about 10–15 minutes before trying again. Greenworks’ official charger FAQ says a battery placed on the charger immediately after use can produce a false full-charge signal.
A solid red light on the charger described in that FAQ typically indicates that the battery is at the wrong temperature to charge. Let both the battery and charger return to room temperature, then retry. Temperature limits vary by model, so use the figures in your battery or charger manual instead of applying one threshold to every Greenworks product.
Read the charger light and follow its reset steps
Indicator meanings are charger-specific. For the charger covered by Greenworks’ 24V charger FAQ, the guidance is:

| Indicator or symptom | What Greenworks says | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Blinking green | The battery is properly charging. | Check the exact charger manual if the indicator differs or charging does not progress as expected. |
| Solid red | Typically, the battery is at an unsuitable temperature for charging. | Let the battery and charger return to room temperature and retry; use the model manual for temperature limits. |
| Blinking red | A persistent blinking red light after the documented reset may indicate a problem with the battery or charger. | Try the reset below. If the light remains, contact Greenworks; the indicator alone does not identify which part has failed. |
| Full indication just after use | A recently used battery may trigger a false full-charge signal. | Let it rest indoors at room temperature for about 10–15 minutes, then retry. |
For a blinking red light on the charger covered by that FAQ:
- Remove the battery from the charger and wait one minute.
- Reinsert the battery and check the indicator.
- If it still blinks red, remove the battery and unplug the charger for one minute.
- Reconnect the charger, reinsert the battery, and check again.
Do not treat these LED meanings or reset steps as universal across Greenworks chargers. Use the instructions for the precise charger model you own.

- WHY BUY GENUINE GREENWORKS BATTERY – Aftermarket batteries often lack safety circuits, official warranty and Greenworks battery management system. This can lead to poor performance, overheating and even damage to your tools. Plus, using a non‑genuine battery may void your tool's warranty. For reliable power and safety, please always choose genuine Greenworks battery packs.
If the battery is intact but still will not charge after the checks and model-specific reset, contact Greenworks Customer Support. You can also review Greenworks’ warranty information before buying a replacement. Coverage depends on the product and applicable warranty terms; it is not guaranteed. Greenworks says to contact Customer Care and obtain a Return Authorization before returning an item accepted under warranty.

Do not buy a charger on the assumption that Greenworks models are interchangeable; confirm voltage, series, and warranty options first.
