What to Do if Your Robot Vacuum’s App or Cloud Service Stops Working

An offline robot vacuum may have a power, Wi-Fi, app, account, or cloud problem. Use these checks to isolate the cause before resetting or buying equipment.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

An “offline” robot vacuum is not automatically a cloud outage. Check the robot’s power, your phone and internet connection, Wi-Fi at the dock, and app permissions before reconnecting or resetting anything. If the robot still responds to its physical controls, it may be able to clean even while app features are unavailable—but offline behavior varies by model.

First, identify which part is failing

Robot-vacuum connectivity depends on several links: the robot needs power, the home router must provide a usable connection, the phone app needs internet access and any required permissions, and the manufacturer’s account and cloud services must be reachable. A break in any one of them can make the robot appear offline.

Start with reversible checks. An “offline” label is a symptom, not a diagnosis, and repeatedly trying to pair the robot will not fix every cause.

Check the robot and charging base

  • Confirm the dock or charging base is plugged in and powered, and that the robot is seated correctly.
  • Check whether the robot appears to be charging and whether its onboard buttons respond. If it will not start manually or shows no signs of power, address charging or power before troubleshooting Wi-Fi. iRobot states, “A dead/fully discharged robot won’t connect to Wi-Fi.” iRobot’s connectivity troubleshooting guide recommends checking manual button operation.
  • If the robot has power and responds to its controls, proceed to the phone, network, and service checks. Do not assume that every model can begin or complete a cleaning job without app or cloud access.

Check your phone, app, and manufacturer service

  1. Confirm the phone can access the internet and that airplane mode is off.
  2. Open or update the robot’s app, then check the manufacturer’s system-status page if one is available. For iRobot, use the iRobot System Status page. A status page can help identify a reported service issue, but it does not diagnose every account, app, or robot connection problem.
  3. Read the exact error. An app may be unable to contact the cloud, the cloud may be unable to contact the robot, or the app or account may lack permission. iRobot describes these as distinct possibilities in its guidance on the “Cloud service is currently unavailable” message. See iRobot’s cloud-service troubleshooting article.

During an iRobot cloud or remote-connection problem, iRobot says the app may not provide remote control, cleaning history and supported map reports, supported i Series smart mapping, or software updates. Those effects are specific to iRobot’s guidance; behavior and feature availability differ across brands and models.

Check the home Wi-Fi where the robot docks

  • Make sure the router is online and your phone can use the home internet connection.
  • Check Wi-Fi reception at the dock, not just beside the router. Weak coverage where the robot sits can interfere with its connection.
  • If you recently changed your Wi-Fi name or password, reconnect the robot using the new credentials and the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Confirm the robot is being connected to the home network rather than a temporary network used during setup.

Do not assume Wi-Fi requirements are the same for every robot. Roborock’s offline and Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide calls out local-network permission on iOS 14 or later, location permission, network band and encryption compatibility, and VPN or cellular use during setup. That guide says its device does not support 5 GHz; this limitation should not be generalized to other makes or models. Check your robot’s own specifications.

Check app permissions and reconnect the robot

If power, internet, and Wi-Fi appear to be working, review the app’s permissions on your phone. For iOS, check whether the app has the local-network access it needs; also review any location permission the manufacturer requires for setup. If setup still fails, the Roborock guide suggests disabling a VPN and cellular data while troubleshooting the connection.

For an iRobot robot that was previously connected, the documented route is Product Settings > Wi-Fi Settings > Reconnect or Change Product Wi-Fi. Labels and menus may vary by app version. For other brands, use the equivalent process in the official instructions for your exact model.

Reboot before considering a reset

Restarting devices is generally less disruptive than resetting the robot. Follow the manufacturer’s model-specific instructions rather than borrowing a button combination from another brand.

  1. Reboot the robot using its documented procedure. iRobot’s guide describes taking the robot off the dock and holding CLEAN/POWER for roughly 20 seconds, but timing and controls can vary by model.
  2. Restart the router, then allow it to reconnect to the internet.
  3. Restart the phone and reopen the app.
  4. Check whether the robot reconnects before attempting another setup or reset.

iRobot recommends rebooting the robot, router, and phone before a factory reset. Eufy also recommends restarting the robot and router where applicable. See Eufy’s RoboVac offline guidance for its instructions.

Use a factory reset only as a later step

If the simpler checks and a reboot do not restore the connection, a factory reset may be an option—but reset behavior and consequences vary. Check the exact model’s manual or official support instructions first, including whether a reset could affect saved network details, schedules, maps, or other setup. You may need to reconnect and configure the robot afterward.

When a Wi-Fi extender might help

Consider a range extender only if you have confirmed that Wi-Fi coverage is weak where the robot docks. It may help with a local signal problem; it will not repair a manufacturer cloud outage, app sign-in or account-permission problem, or a robot that has no power. Check the signal and diagnose the fault before buying networking equipment.

When to contact manufacturer support

If the robot remains offline after the relevant checks, contact the manufacturer. Include the details that help distinguish a power, network, app, account, or service problem:

  • Robot make and exact model.
  • App version and phone operating-system version.
  • The exact error message and when the problem began.
  • Whether the robot responds to its onboard controls.
  • Any recent router, Wi-Fi name, or password changes.
  • The checks and troubleshooting steps you have already tried.

Manufacturer instructions and app features can change, and reset effects are model-specific. Use the official manual or support page for your robot before following a reset procedure.
