If someone has taken over your PlayStation Network (PSN) account, secure the email account tied to it first, then try PlayStation’s official account recovery. If the sign-in email or other account details were changed, you cannot access the email or sign-in method, or 2-step verification (2SV) blocks you, contact PlayStation Support through its Online Assistant. Avoid anyone offering recovery through unsolicited messages or links.
1. Secure the email account linked to PSN
Change the password for the email account associated with your PlayStation account before requesting a PSN password reset. If you cannot change that email password, contact your email provider. Control of the inbox matters because account recovery may rely on messages sent to that address.

2. Choose the recovery route that matches what you can still access
You can access the associated email
Go to PlayStation Account Management password recovery, choose “Trouble Signing In? > Recover Your Account,” and follow the prompts. Navigate to PlayStation Support yourself rather than using recovery links in unsolicited emails or direct messages, or QR codes.

Your email is unavailable, or account details changed without permission
Contact PlayStation through its account support and Online Assistant if you cannot access or remember the associated email, your sign-in ID, online ID, or password changed unexpectedly, or you cannot change your sign-in method. Treat these as support cases rather than accepting recovery help from strangers.
3. If 2-step verification is blocking sign-in
If you cannot receive a 2SV code on your phone, use a saved backup code if you have one. PlayStation says it provides 10 backup codes, and each code works once. Keep any unused codes secure. If you have neither phone access nor an available backup code, contact the Online Assistant.

4. Check for unauthorized purchases
Review your PlayStation Store transaction history before treating an unfamiliar charge as fraud. Check other PlayStation accounts that use the same payment method, and see whether the charge is for a recurring subscription. If a charge remains unrecognized, follow PlayStation’s refund and support guidance. Refund eligibility depends on the applicable rules; a refund is not guaranteed.
5. If the console was stolen
If the stolen console was signed in to your account, use PlayStation’s account and security support guidance to sign out on all devices and deactivate consoles. Consider removing saved payment methods. If you cannot change your sign-in credentials or access the account, contact PlayStation Support.

6. Make the recovered account harder to take over again
- Use a unique password, or a passkey, and keep the linked email account secure.
- Keep unused 2SV backup codes somewhere secure. Never share your account details with anyone else, as PlayStation Support advises.
- Be cautious with unsolicited direct messages, QR-code offers, and requests to share account access.
- Review purchase protections. PlayStation notes that “Require Password at Checkout” is incompatible with accounts that have passkeys set up.
