PIA’s published terms describe options that can include travel on a later flight, rerouting or an involuntary refund in specified situations; eligibility depends on the disruption, route and booking. Do not assume every disruption qualifies for cash compensation.
First, confirm what changed
Check the flight number, travel date, departure airport and destination against your booking. Identify whether PIA has delayed the same flight, canceled it, rerouted you, or changed its scheduled departure time or airport. Save the original itinerary, every revision and the notice showing when you were informed. PIA says published flight times may change and are not guaranteed; it asks passengers to provide current contact details so it or its agent can try to notify them. PIA Conditions of Carriage

What to do now
- Contact the airline handling the disruption. Use the contact details on your ticket or PIA’s official channels. If a travel agent issued the ticket, contact the agent too. Ask for the reason for the change, a confirmed replacement itinerary and the available choices under the rules that apply to your trip.
- Ask which remedies apply before accepting a change. PIA Conditions of Carriage Article 9.2.2 lists three choices for specified cases: travel as soon as possible on another PIA flight with space; rerouting within a reasonable period on PIA, another airline or mutually agreed transport; or an involuntary refund under Article 10.2. The listed triggers include cancellation, failure to operate reasonably to schedule, failure to stop at the destination or stopover, and a missed connection under the stated conditions. - If you take a replacement itinerary, check every segment. Confirm the destination, connection airports, dates and travel class, and ask how baggage will be handled. Get the revised booking confirmation before leaving the airport or buying separate travel.
- If you want to stop traveling, ask about an involuntary refund first. Explain in writing that you are asking about a refund because of the disruption, not requesting an ordinary voluntary cancellation. Ask which unused ticket segments and paid services are covered and how to proceed.
- Keep a record and submit any claim in writing. Save your ticket, booking reference, disruption notices, screenshots, actual departure and arrival times, and receipts for expenses caused by the disruption. Records help explain a claim but do not guarantee reimbursement.
If PIA cancels your flight
PIA’s Air Passenger Rights page says that when a passenger’s flight is canceled, the operating airline shall offer a choice between alternative transport or rerouting to the final destination and a refund of the unutilized ticket. If your flight is delayed
PIA’s Air Passenger Rights page describes assistance for certain international delays: refreshments or meals and communication facilities for delays longer than two to four hours, depending on distance, and overnight accommodation when necessary. It also says a passenger who chooses to discontinue the journey after a delay exceeding five hours may receive a refund of the unused ticket. Expenses are not the same as fixed compensation
Keep receipts and note why each cost was necessary. A request for documented losses caused by a delay is distinct from a statutory payment for inconvenience. Which rules apply to a loss claim can depend on the itinerary, the cause and the applicable legal framework; a receipt alone does not establish entitlement. If PIA changes the date, time or airport
A schedule change is not automatically a compensation event. PIA says flight times may change and are not guaranteed. Its Conditions of Carriage state that if a changed departure time or airport is unacceptable and PIA cannot reserve an acceptable alternative in the ticketed class, an involuntary refund is available under the referenced refund article. Check the rules for your itinerary before citing compensation amounts
Passenger-rights rules vary by jurisdiction. For flights eligible under Canada’s Air Passenger Protection Regulations, Canadian Transportation Agency guidance says inconvenience compensation may apply when the disruption is within the airline’s control and not required for safety, notice is 14 days or less, and arrival is at least three hours late. The passenger must make a written claim within one year. For qualifying delays, the amounts depend on carrier size and arrival delay:

These are Canadian amounts, not universal PIA payouts; the eligibility conditions and carrier classification matter. The regulations give the airline 30 days to pay or explain why compensation is not payable. Check the rules for your route and circumstances before relying on a deadline or amount. Escalate with a complete record
If PIA’s reply does not address the remedy you asked for, submit a written complaint through its official complaint channel. Include your booking reference, ticket, original and revised itineraries, notices, a short chronology, relevant receipts and the specific outcome you are seeking. For trips involving another jurisdiction, check that jurisdiction’s aviation regulator for complaint procedures and filing deadlines.
