If your Fire TV Stick remote is lost, try Amazon’s Fire TV app first: your phone and Fire TV device need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If the remote is broken or the app cannot reach the Stick, check the exact Stick model before buying a compatible replacement. Amazon also provides a pairing procedure that works without the original remote.
If the remote is lost, try your phone first
Amazon says you can control a Fire TV device with the Fire TV app. Install or open the app on your phone, connect the phone to the same Wi-Fi network as the Fire TV Stick, then select the device in the app. This can restore basic control without buying a remote if the Stick is already connected to that network. Try Alexa only if it is already set up

Fire TV remotes are not universally interchangeable. Identify the Stick’s exact model in the device list for your Amazon account, then check Amazon’s compatibility table before ordering. Confirm that the replacement supports your model rather than relying only on a general product name or appearance. Pair a replacement without the old remote
Amazon documents a pairing route for when the original remote is unavailable. Use the replacement’s batteries, and follow these steps:
- Unplug the Fire TV Stick from power.
- Reconnect power and wait for the on-screen remote detection error.
- Insert batteries into the compatible replacement remote and wait for it to pair.
- If pairing does not start, hold the remote’s Home button for 10 seconds.

If the remote is present but broken or unresponsive
Before replacing a remote that may simply have lost its connection or power, work through Amazon’s basic checks:

- Move within 10 feet (3 m) of the Fire TV device while pairing.
- Hold Home for about 10 seconds. If that does not work, remove the batteries for 30 seconds, put them back, and hold Home again.
- Restart the Fire TV if pairing still fails. Reset steps differ by remote generation, so use the instructions for your specific remote rather than applying a generic button sequence.
- Check how many controllers are paired: Fire TV supports up to seven. If that limit has been reached, remove a paired controller before adding another.
