First determine which identity you used to enter Grok: an xAI email login, an X account, Google, or Apple. Grok does not automatically merge those identities when you try another sign-in button. Use the same provider you used when the account was created, then follow the recovery route for that provider.
An xAI email can be added or changed at accounts.x.ai. An X-linked address must be changed or recovered through X. Apple Hide My Email accounts normally require the original Apple sign-in, not the private relay address entered as a separate email account.

Identify what “my Grok email” actually means
People use “Grok email” to describe two different things: the email used for an xAI/Grok account, or the email attached to an X account that is used to sign in to Grok. The distinction determines which company controls the recovery process.

Grok’s sign-in screen currently offers Login with X, Login with email, Login with Google, and Login with Apple. Select the option you used when you created the account and choose the intended account if the provider displays more than one. Signing in authenticates that provider’s account; trying a different button does not establish that the identities have been linked or merged.

If you used an xAI email login
Change or add the sign-in address
Use xAI’s account-management page at accounts.x.ai. Sign in with the xAI credentials that still work, open the account or sign-in-email settings, and update or add the address there. Use an inbox you can currently open and keep that address available for future verification messages.
If you can sign in but cannot find an email-setting control, do not create a second Grok account with another provider in an attempt to “claim” the old one. That can leave you with two separate identities and no automatic transfer of a subscription or history. Use xAI’s in-app or Grok support channel instead.
When the old mailbox is unavailable
If you know the xAI email but no longer control the mailbox, first use that email provider’s own recovery process. Recovering the mailbox is different from changing an xAI account address: xAI cannot verify messages sent to an inbox you cannot open. Once the mailbox is restored, sign in again and change the address at accounts.x.ai.

For xAI/Grok account questions, support is available through the app or grok.com; xAI also lists [email protected] as a contact address. Describe the exact sign-in error, the provider you originally used, and which recovery methods you still control. Never send a password, one-time code, or recovery token to anyone outside the official xAI channel.
If you used Login with Apple
Use the original Apple identity
Apple’s Hide My Email can create a private relay address that looks unfamiliar. In that case, choose Login with Apple and authenticate with the same Apple Account used at sign-up. Do not treat the relay address as though it were an ordinary xAI email and then select Google or a regular email login.
xAI says a subscription may not be recognized when a person enters the Apple relay address as a separate email or Google login. The relay address is managed through Apple, so change or inspect it in Apple’s account controls rather than trying to replace it from an unrelated Grok identity. If Apple sign-in succeeds but the expected subscription is missing, contact xAI through the app or grok.com and explain that the account was created with Apple Hide My Email.

If you used Login with X
In this path, the relevant address belongs to your X account. Grok cannot substitute a new email for an X account that you cannot authenticate. Work through the X account first, then return to Grok and choose Login with X.

- Open the X app or website session that is already signed in.
- Open the account settings and locate the account-information or email setting.
- Replace the old address with an inbox you control and complete any confirmation X requests.
- Return to Grok and use Login with X, selecting that same X account.
An active session is valuable because it may let you change the address without proving access to the lost mailbox first. Do not sign out of that session until the new address has been saved and confirmed.
You lost access to the mailbox
Contact the email provider and recover the mailbox before attempting repeated X resets. After access is restored, request a new X password if necessary, then sign in and change the address in X settings. X controls the account email; recovering the mailbox does not by itself change the address stored on X.

A verified mobile number is attached
- Open X’s password-reset page.
- Enter the username, email candidate, or phone number associated with the account.
- If X offers text-message verification, select the verified mobile number and enter the code sent by SMS.
- Set a new password, sign in, and update the email address in account settings.
SMS is not guaranteed to appear. X notes that text reset is unavailable for accounts enrolled in login verification, so the available recovery method depends on the account’s security settings. If no SMS option is shown, use the other method displayed rather than repeatedly requesting texts.
You cannot remember which email is on X
Try the username and password you remember first. If the password fails, enter the username or each plausible email address or phone number in X’s reset flow. Check every candidate inbox, including junk or spam folders, for the reset message.
- Confirm that you are checking the correct inbox and the correct X account.
- Use a newly issued reset link; older links can expire or become invalid after another request.
- Do not assume that an address receiving a message is necessarily the account you intended if you manage multiple X accounts.
Once you regain access, record the exact address shown in X account settings and use the same X identity for Grok.

X’s recovery options are substantially limited when you cannot access the account email and have no verified mobile number eligible for verification. X’s password-reset guidance says recovery is limited without email or phone verification. Its help guidance also states: “Unfortunately, if you don’t have access to the account’s email address or verified mobile number, we are unable to continue troubleshooting.”
That means you should not expect a third-party “recovery service” or a new Grok login to bypass X verification. X may be unable to continue troubleshooting, and its guidance discusses possible account deactivation or freeing of a username in situations where ownership cannot be established. These are not guaranteed outcomes or promises that support will make an exception.
You can still use X’s official account-access or support route. Explain the precise error, the username, whether the account may be locked or compromised, and which email addresses, phone numbers, passwords, or logged-in sessions remain available. Do not guess at verification answers, and do not send passwords or verification codes to a person claiming to recover the account privately.

Locked account
Use the provider’s official sign-in and account-access flow rather than creating another identity. Record the exact message shown, including whether it says the account is locked, suspended, or requires additional verification. Include that wording in a support request so the provider can route the case correctly.
Possible compromise
If a password, email address, or phone number was changed without your permission, secure the email account and phone number first. Then use X’s official account-access route for an X-linked identity or xAI support through the app or grok.com for an xAI login. Change reused passwords after you regain control and enable the provider’s available security checks. Never disclose a one-time sign-in code to someone offering help through an unsolicited message.
A practical decision path
- Look at the sign-in history. Decide whether you previously chose X, email, Google, or Apple. If uncertain, try each provider only with the account you actually used, checking whether it opens the expected profile rather than assuming a successful login is the same identity.
- Check for an existing session. A signed-in X or xAI session can let you change an address without starting from a locked-out state.
- Recover the mailbox if possible. Use the email provider’s recovery process before asking Grok or X to send messages to an inaccessible inbox.
- Check for a verified phone. For X, an eligible verified number may provide an SMS reset; login-verification settings can remove that option.
- Use the correct official support channel. xAI account issues belong with xAI; X-linked identity issues belong with X. Include exact errors and available verification methods.
- Stop before creating a replacement account. A new Google, Apple, email, or X login can be a separate identity and does not prove ownership of the original one.
Common mistakes that make recovery harder
- Using the wrong provider: Entering an X email under “Login with email” can open or create a different xAI identity.
- Treating Apple’s relay address as a normal login: Use the original Apple button for Hide My Email accounts.
- Signing out of the only active session: Keep a working X or xAI session open until the new address and password are confirmed.
- Requesting many resets: A fresh reset link can invalidate an older one; use the newest message and check spam.
- Assuming support can bypass verification: Neither the public xAI nor X guidance guarantees a manual exception for an account with no accessible email or verified phone.
- Sharing secrets: Official support will not require you to publish a password or hand a verification code to an outside recovery service.
What is and is not established about recovery
The current official guidance explains the available sign-in and recovery routes, but it does not establish a recovery time, a success rate, or a guaranteed manual override for any individual account. Whether support can restore access, recognize a subscription, or transfer anything depends on the account records and the provider’s review. Interfaces and recovery rules can change, so follow the labels shown in the official account pages when you perform these steps.
