Then confirm the transaction, verify that the platform recognizes ownership, install the add-on, and check for a region mismatch or an in-game unlock requirement. These are separate problems: a purchase can be valid without being installed, recognized by the game, or available at the point you are currently playing.
Identify which part of DLC access is failing
“Missing DLC” can describe four different situations. Finding the right one matters because reinstalling a game will not fix a purchase made on another account, and a valid entitlement will not necessarily make content appear before a required story milestone.

- The purchase is on another account. Store purchases are associated with the account used to buy them. A different profile on the same console may not show the transaction or own the add-on.
- The account owns it, but the platform or game has not recognized or installed it. The store may show ownership while the add-on is not downloaded, its license has not refreshed, or its local files are missing.
- The game and add-on are from incompatible regions. This can affect physical copies in particular: an add-on bought through one region’s store may not work with a disc licensed for another.
- The game has not made the content available yet. Some DLC requires a tutorial, story milestone, or particular in-game location before it can be used.
Work through the checks below in order. If the store does not show the purchase on the buying account, focus on the transaction or account. If ownership is confirmed, continue to installation, licensing, region, and game-specific access checks.

1. Confirm the account and purchase
Sign in to the account or profile used to buy the add-on. Check the platform’s purchase or transaction history and verify that the transaction completed. If you redeemed a code, check the account’s code-redemption or activation records too.
On Nintendo platforms, the purchase history belongs to the selected Nintendo Account. A parent account’s history will not show purchases made by a child account. Nintendo also advises checking its download-code troubleshooting guidance if the content was obtained with a code: Problems with Download Codes (Software and Downloadable Content).
On Epic Games Store, review the account’s transaction history and code redemptions. SEGA’s PC troubleshooting guide also points Steam users to their account and license records. A receipt or transaction entry is useful evidence that the purchase went through, but it does not by itself confirm that the game has installed or made the content available.
If you use multiple profiles, email addresses, or platform accounts, verify the account identity rather than relying on which profile happens to be signed in on the device. The store history for the selected account is the key check: a purchase made on a child account, for example, will not appear in a parent account’s Nintendo history. Keep the relevant receipt or transaction details handy in case the record is present but access remains broken.
2. Check whether the store recognizes ownership
Open the DLC’s store page or the game’s add-on listing while signed into the buying account. Look for an ownership, download, or redownload option rather than assuming the add-on is attached to the profile currently open.
Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch
Nintendo says an owned DLC item may show a redownload or Virtual Game Cards option. If the listing instead says “Add to Purchase” or displays a price, the Nintendo Account currently being checked did not purchase that item. Also check whether the software is hidden; hidden software must be re-enabled before it can be redownloaded. Other platforms
On PlayStation, confirm the transaction and account before moving to license restoration or installation checks. On Xbox, Steam, and Epic Games Store, check the relevant account’s records and the game’s add-on controls. If the platform does not recognize ownership on the account that made the purchase, save the transaction details and contact the storefront or platform support rather than treating it as an installation problem.

This check helps separate “not owned on this account” from “owned but not available in the game.” If the store listing shows a price or purchase option, do not buy the same content again until you have checked which account made the original purchase and reviewed its transaction history. If the store recognizes ownership, continue to installation and license checks rather than concluding that the transaction failed.
3. Install or refresh the add-on
Some add-ons require a separate download or installation even after purchase. Check the game’s add-on management screen and the console or launcher’s install status. If the add-on is already selected but still unavailable, toggling it off and back on can prompt a fresh installation on some launchers.
PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4
Open the game’s add-on or manage-content screen and verify that the DLC is installed. On PS5, check the console’s installation status and available storage. PlayStation’s add-on troubleshooting guide includes checking the add-on and, if earlier steps fail, deleting and reinstalling the game and add-on. Reinstall only after confirming the account and purchase, since reinstalling cannot move ownership between accounts.
Also check that the installation has completed and that the console has enough available storage. PlayStation’s troubleshooting guidance includes checking network and installation issues, so a download that did not finish can leave an owned add-on unavailable. Reinstalling is a later troubleshooting step, not the first response to a missing purchase.

Use the profile that purchased the content. Open My games & apps, select the game, and go to Manage game and add-ons to check available add-ons and installation status. Menu labels can vary as console software changes; SEGA’s console DLC access guide provides the cited instructions.
Steam
In your Library, open the game’s Properties > DLC section and check that the add-on is selected. If it is selected but does not appear in the game, uncheck and recheck it to prompt a reinstall, then let the download finish before launching the game again.
Epic Games Store
Open the game’s Manage Add-Ons settings and check that the relevant content is enabled or installed. If you do not see an add-on there, return to the Epic account’s transaction and code-redemption records to verify ownership.

These controls differ by platform, but the question is the same: does the account own the DLC, and is that specific add-on enabled and installed for the game? Use the instructions for the platform and launcher where the game is being played. Menu names can change, so if a label differs, look for the game’s add-on, manage-content, or installation controls rather than assuming the entitlement has disappeared.
4. Restore license recognition on PlayStation
If the transaction is present but PlayStation cannot locate or use the add-on, restore licenses. PlayStation says this can help when a game or add-on cannot be found. Use the path for your console:
- PS5: Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
- PS4: Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses.
Follow PlayStation’s license restoration instructions, then check the game’s add-on screen again. If the add-on remains unavailable, continue with the installation and region checks instead of assuming the purchase failed.
License restoration is a recognition check, not a substitute for confirming the buying account or downloading the add-on. If the transaction is not in that account’s history, return to the account and purchase checks. If it is present, restore licenses and then verify installation and compatibility.
5. Check the game and DLC regions
A genuine DLC purchase may still be incompatible with the copy of the base game you are using. Compare the region of the game with the region of the account and store used to buy the add-on, especially if the base game is on disc. Do not assume that different editions or regional releases can share add-ons.

Nintendo warns that when the game and DLC regions do not match, the DLC will not appear in that version of the game. PlayStation likewise says a disc must be licensed for the same country or region as the account to use PlayStation Store add-ons. If your physical game came from another region, check its release or packaging details and the platform’s guidance before buying or reinstalling more content.
Region compatibility is a separate question from whether the DLC purchase was genuine. The store can correctly show that an account owns an add-on, while a different regional version of the base game still cannot use it. This is why it is especially important to check the disc’s region before repeating an installation or purchase attempt.

6. Check whether the game gates access
Ownership and installation do not guarantee that DLC is usable immediately. SEGA Support’s article, updated February 17, 2026, notes: “Sometimes the DLC content will not be accessible from the beginning.” Its examples include content that becomes available after completing a tutorial or reaching a certain point, as well as content usable only in particular parts of a game. Check the game’s own instructions for the specific unlock condition.
If the add-on is selected and installed but still does not load, consider whether mods or custom files could be interfering. SEGA recommends testing without them when they may affect DLC access. Make a safe backup of relevant saves or files before changing a modded setup, and follow the game’s own guidance for disabling or removing modifications.
Before treating this as a licensing fault, check the game’s instructions or publisher support for where the DLC should appear and what must happen first. A story expansion, item, or mode may be tied to a particular point or area. If the game is still before that point, the content may be owned and installed correctly even though it is not yet visible or usable.
7. Contact the right support team
If the buying account’s history shows a completed transaction and the platform still does not provide access after the checks above, gather the receipt or transaction ID, the account or profile used, the game and DLC names, and your platform. Ask support to verify the entitlement and whether it is attached to the correct account.
- Contact the platform or storefront when the purchase is missing from account records, the store does not recognize ownership, or a platform license will not refresh.
- Contact the game publisher when the platform recognizes and installs the DLC but the game does not grant or load it after you have checked its access requirements.
PlayStation directs players to support if its add-on troubleshooting does not resolve the problem. Bungie’s guide to accessing and restoring licenses to Destiny content likewise directs players to the relevant platform support for continued license issues.
When you contact support, describe which checks you completed and what each screen showed: the account’s purchase record, the store’s ownership status, the add-on’s installation status, and any region or in-game requirement you checked. These details help distinguish an account entitlement issue from an installation problem or a game-side unlock issue. Keep your receipt or transaction details available so support can verify the purchase.
