Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minutePreserve evidence, then isolate the suspected NetScaler ADC or Gateway. Treat credentials, tokens, certificates, and private keys stored on or used through it as potentially exposed. Investigate connected systems, rebuild or replace the appliance from a known-good state, and harden and monitor it after recovery. A “No Compromise Detected” NetScaler Console scan does not prove the appliance is clean.
What should you do first?
Coordinate with your incident-response team before changing the appliance’s state. Evidence collection can conflict with rapid containment, so responders should choose the order that fits the incident and your organization’s legal and forensic requirements. Cloud Software Group’s support article, “Steps to Take if NetScaler ADC is Suspected to be Compromised” (Article CTX694799; accessed October 4, 2026, with no update date visible), describes the following response considerations.

- Preserve relevant evidence. For a VPX, responders may take a snapshot for forensic analysis. Record the appliance’s system time, time zone, and NTP configuration before isolation. Preserve remote Syslog and NetScaler Console records, as well as local logs if available. A technical support bundle can capture configuration and running-process information.
- Coordinate any core-dump collection. The documented Packet Engine core-dump procedure causes a warm restart and disconnects SSH sessions. Do not run it casually on a suspected appliance; coordinate with responders first.
- Use a responder-led process for physical MPX or SDX hardware. Cloud Software Group describes possible steps including memory preservation, powering down, removing disks, and making bit-for-bit disk images—ideally with a hardware write blocker. Keep separate analysis and evidence copies and document chain of custody. These are examples to coordinate with qualified responders, not a replacement for your organization’s forensic procedure.
- Isolate the appliance from the network after considering evidence-preservation needs. The vendor’s guidance does not prescribe a topology-specific isolation method; responders should choose one that limits unauthorized access without disrupting other systems unnecessarily.
If law-enforcement involvement is anticipated or legally required, consult legal counsel before rebuilding. Evidence requirements may take priority over operational recovery.
What access and connected systems should you treat as exposed?
Revoke and rotate secrets
Change secrets stored on the appliance at the systems that issue or use them. Examples include LDAP credentials, RADIUS shared secrets, OAuth tokens, API keys, and SNMP community names. Change accounts authenticated through the suspected platform, including Gateway or AAA virtual-server users. Revoke certificates and private keys stored on the appliance. After recovery, also change local appliance passwords, rotate key-encryption keys (KEKs), and replace restored SSL certificates.

Investigate systems the appliance could reach
Look for signs of further compromise on systems the ADC connected to. Prioritize authentication servers, sensitive systems, web-tier systems, and management jump hosts. A clean-looking appliance result alone is not a reason to skip this investigation.
How should you rebuild or restore the appliance?
Use the recovery path for the hardware or virtual deployment. Cloud Software Group recommends installing the latest available firmware before restoring a known-good backup. Verify that the backup predates the suspected compromise and that the restored configuration is expected.
| Deployment | Recovery path | Evidence and timing consideration |
|---|---|---|
| VPX | Cloud Software Group recommends replacing and restoring the instance. | A snapshot may be taken for forensic analysis before isolation, in coordination with responders. |
| Physical MPX | Follow the vendor’s erase-and-reinstall procedure, then restore only a verified pre-compromise backup. | Coordinate evidence preservation with responders; the vendor describes memory preservation and disk imaging as possible steps for physical hardware. |
| Physical SDX | Follow the vendor’s erase-and-reinstall procedure for the physical appliance. If a VPX hosted inside SDX is compromised, follow the VPX remediation path. | Coordinate physical-hardware evidence handling with responders before rebuilding. |
Restoring a backup does not restore trust in secrets embedded in it. Complete the post-restoration password, KEK, and certificate changes described above.

Can a NetScaler Console scan tell you whether the appliance is clean?
No. NetScaler Console provides vulnerability-focused compromise scans from its Security Advisory page. Its documented result states are “Potentially Compromised,” “No Compromise Detected,” “Skipped,” “Failed to Execute,” and “Execution in Progress.” The feature requires product-usage telemetry and does not currently support BLX. Earlier scan results can be viewed, and the IoC logic is updated as indicators are discovered. These details are in NetScaler’s “Indicators of Compromise detection in NetScaler Console” documentation dated September 30, 2026.
NetScaler’s documentation warns that its IoC information does not cover every attacker technique, tactic, or procedure and may fail to identify an actual compromise; it recommends experienced forensic investigators. Treat the scan as an assessment aid, not forensic clearance. A negative result does not replace secret rotation, connected-system investigation, or other incident-response work.

NetScaler audit logs can be stored locally, exported to an external server, or both, according to the current NetScaler 14.1 “Audit logging” documentation. Remote copies are especially useful to preserve because local logs may be inaccessible after device failure. Preserve available remote Syslog and Console records as part of initial evidence collection.

For NetScaler 14.1, HTTP/TCP attack-event logging is documented beginning with build 51.x. When configured, it can send protocol-violation and attack-event records to Syslog or NSLOG, including fields such as source and destination addresses and ports, protocol, a payload sample, and context. NetScaler’s documentation for this feature is dated September 8, 2026. Do not assume logging was enabled on your appliance, and do not treat missing events as evidence that no attack occurred.
