If the protector on a foldable phone’s inner screen starts lifting or bubbling, don’t pick at it, press it down, or peel it off. First identify the phone model and which screen is affected, then ask the manufacturer or an authorized service center how to have that film assessed or replaced. Samsung gives this specific advice for Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip main screens; owners of other foldables should follow their own manufacturer’s guidance.
What to do first
- Identify the model and screen. Check the exact phone model and whether the film is lifting on the inner folding display or an outer cover display. Instructions for one model or screen may not apply to another.
- Leave the film in place. Don’t pick at an edge, push bubbles toward the crease, or attempt a DIY peel. Samsung warns that removing the main-screen film arbitrarily can cause touch abnormalities or screen damage on Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip devices. Samsung UK’s removal guidance recommends visiting a service centre for replacement assistance.
- Contact the maker or its authorized service channel. Ask whether the protector on your exact model can be replaced, where service is available, and what the current fee and warranty terms are in your country. For Samsung Galaxy Z-series protector application, Samsung US says special equipment is required and the service is performed at Samsung service centers; availability and terms may vary by model and market.
- Report display symptoms separately. If you also see cracks, lines, dark areas, or touch failure, tell the service provider and request an inspection. A bubble alone does not establish whether the display panel is damaged.
Why a foldable screen protector may lift
The lifting layer may be the protective film rather than the display itself. Samsung describes its Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip main-screen film as a consumable that can wear over time. Its Singapore support guidance says scratches, bubbles, and lifting may occur after a period of normal use. That explains one possible cause, but does not diagnose a particular phone. Samsung Singapore’s guidance recommends contacting Samsung for replacement information.

Why not remove or replace it yourself?
Samsung identifies the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip main-screen protector as the official film for its foldable series. It warns that arbitrary removal or non-official film may affect touch performance or damage the screen, and recommends service-center assistance. Its warning is specific to Samsung devices; it is not a universal procedure for every foldable phone. For another brand, consult that manufacturer before touching or replacing the inner-screen film.

Be cautious with third-party protectors. If the manufacturer confirms that a replacement product is suitable, verify that it is intended for the exact model and the correct screen. A generic film recommendation is not a substitute for model-specific guidance.

What to ask support
- Can the inner-screen film on this exact model be replaced, and must the phone be inspected first?
- Which authorized service locations handle the replacement in my country?
- What is the current price, and does any warranty or service coverage apply?
- If the display has visible damage or touch problems, should I stop using the phone or take any other precautions?
Don’t rely on an old price or assume replacement is covered. A Samsung US FAQ from 2020 listed a price for subsequent Galaxy Z Flip protector replacements, but that historical US-specific figure does not establish today’s price or terms.
