If you want to know what was recorded or how long it will be kept, contact the organization that operates that particular camera. Note the location and approximate time, then ask for its policy and the procedure for privacy, access, or deletion requests.
What a Flock camera may record
Flock Safety says its license plate reader (LPR) data can include more than a plate number: it may include an image of the plate and vehicle, vehicle characteristics such as color and make, the plate number and state, the date and time, and the camera location. Who to contact about a capture
Start with the camera’s customer or local operator, not with an assumption that Flock can directly process a request from every person whose vehicle appears in a capture. Flock says customer data is owned by the customer, and customers designate administrators and authorized end users; its Trust Center describes agency-controlled roles and logged searches. - For a camera at a private residence or managed property, ask the property manager, homeowners association, or community manager.
- For a camera associated with a public-safety agency, contact the relevant police department or other agency.
- If you cannot identify the operator, check for nearby camera notices or ask the local property owner or agency responsible for the area.
Ask which policy applies to that camera, what information was captured, how long it is retained, whether it is shared, and how to submit an access, privacy, or deletion request. Request the written policy or form. The Flock materials describe customer-controlled access, but do not establish a universal consumer complaint form.

How long the data is kept
Flock’s License Plate Reader Policy, last updated June 30, 2026, says LPR data is deleted on a rolling seven-day basis by default, unless a customer’s law or policy requires a different period. Flock’s Evidence Policy, last updated August 12, 2026, describes seven calendar days as the standard, subject to the customer agreement and legal requirements; it says retention may be extended for up to one year when the customer obtains the specified elected-official or governing-body approval. These are Flock’s stated terms, not a guarantee for every installation. Ask the local operator about the specific camera and act promptly if you want to make a request. Flock Evidence Policy
Can you opt out or ask for deletion?
Ask the operator whether the camera system offers a way to opt out or request deletion, and what eligibility and process apply. The applicable procedure may depend on the operator’s policy, agreement, and local law; the available Flock policy materials do not establish a universal right to have a capture erased.

Safe List in some residential-community systems
Flock describes a Safe List feature for participating residential-community systems. Residents may be able to register a plate so the vehicle is marked as a resident and opt out of that system’s captured footage. This is a limited feature, not a general opt-out from all Flock cameras. Ask your property or community manager whether it is available on your system and exactly what it covers. If someone has acted on an LPR alert or you believe your plate was misread, write down the date, time, location, and what happened. Contact the responsible agency or organization and ask it to review the underlying record and its computer translation. Flock’s policy custodian, Davis Lukens, Chief Technology Officer, cautions: “Users should confirm the computer translation prior to taking any action based on an LPR alert or search.” Flock’s License Plate Reader Policy

A practical request checklist
- Record the camera’s location and the approximate date and time. Keep your description factual.
- Identify the operator through signage, the property manager, homeowners association, local police department, or relevant agency.
- Ask for the governing policy, the data associated with the capture, the retention schedule, sharing rules, and the procedure for an access, privacy, or deletion request.
- If the camera is part of a residential community system, ask whether Safe List is available and whether it applies to your vehicle.
- If an alert or decision is at issue, request review of the record and translation, and seek local legal help if needed.
