If a company says your personal information was exposed in a breach, first find out exactly what data was involved. Then take the steps that match it: change exposed and reused passwords, protect credit information if relevant, and check financial accounts for unfamiliar activity. For U.S. consumer guidance, the Federal Trade Commission’s breach-response advice points people to different actions depending on what was exposed.
1. Read the notice and identify what was exposed
Look for the types of information involved, the accounts or services affected, and any remedy the company offers. A password, Social Security number, and payment information require different follow-up; do not assume the notice means all of them were exposed. The FTC’s data-breach guidance directs consumers to IdentityTheft.gov/databreach for next steps based on the exposed information.

2. Verify any follow-up before responding
A breach announcement can give impostors a reason to send convincing messages. Do not click an unexpected link or call a number in a message to confirm an offer or provide information. Instead, go to the company’s known website or use contact details from a previous statement or other trusted source. The FTC explains how to protect personal information from hackers and scammers.

3. If a password was exposed, change it and reused versions
Change the password for the affected account, then update any other accounts where you used the same or a similar password. The FTC says to make this change immediately when a company reports a breach involving a password. Use a different, hard-to-guess password for each account, and enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) wherever it is available. MFA adds another verification step, such as a code from an authentication app or a security key; an optional hardware security key works only with services that support it. See the FTC’s breach advice for more on account security.
4. Consider a credit freeze if identity or credit information was exposed
A credit freeze restricts access to your credit report, making it harder for someone to open new credit in your name. The FTC says freezes are free, do not affect your credit score, and must be placed separately with Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. A freeze stays in place until you lift it. When applying for credit, you may need to lift it so a lender can review your report; contact the bureau or bureaus the lender uses.

- How to Refill the Ink: there are 4 pieces of ID stamp refills, each is about 1.5 ml, you just need to unscrew the cap of the ink bottle (not disposable, you can close the cap for next time of use), then insert it into the hole on the side of the stamp, then turn it upside down, about 5 minutes later, the most of the ink will be replenished to the security roller stamp
A fraud alert is a different option: it asks lenders to verify your identity before granting credit. A freeze or alert concerns new credit, not activity on existing bank or card accounts. For details on the trade-offs and how to request either tool, see the FTC’s guide to credit freezes and fraud alerts.
5. Check accounts, bills, and credit reports
Review bank and card statements, bills, and credit reports for activity you do not recognize. Contact the bank or card issuer promptly if you see an unauthorized transaction or account change. A credit freeze does not stop charges on existing accounts, so keep checking them even if you freeze your credit.

The FTC advises taking advantage of free credit monitoring or identity-theft insurance offered by the affected company. Check the notice for enrollment instructions and deadlines. For any paid service, ask what it monitors, how long the offer lasts, what alerts or recovery help it includes, what it costs after a free period, and how to cancel. The FTC recommends asking questions before signing up for paid monitoring; no single service standard or provider is established by its general guidance.

What to prioritize
- Use the notice to identify the specific information exposed.
- Change exposed passwords and any reused or similar passwords; enable MFA where available.
- If credit or identity data may be involved, consider a free freeze with each of the three nationwide credit bureaus.
- Keep monitoring existing financial accounts, since a freeze does not stop unauthorized charges there.
- Use IdentityTheft.gov if you suspect identity misuse, and verify company offers through a known genuine channel.
This is general U.S. consumer guidance, not advice about the legal requirements or remedies for a particular incident. The right response can depend on the actual notice, the exposed information, and where you live.
