If you planned to play the deck, buy it when its current price fits your budget—not because you expect the price to rise or fall again. Check recent completed sales for the exact deck, compare the sealed product with the singles you actually want, and, if you already own it, weigh its play value against a real offer to sell.
First decide what you want the deck for
If you want to play it
Consider the sealed deck as a ready-to-play product and entertainment purchase, not just a bundle of cards with a resale value. Wizards describes Commander as a 100-card format, with one copy of each card except basic lands, and its product guides describe Commander decks as ready to play. Wizards says it reprints cards because it believes they support enjoyable gameplay and players should have the opportunity to play with them. That explains the purpose of reprints; it does not predict what a particular deck will cost next.

If the current price works for your budget and you want to play now, there is no need to wait for a further drop on the assumption that one is coming. If it does not fit your budget, waiting or choosing another way to get the cards is reasonable—but neither guarantees a lower price later.
If you want only some of the cards
Make a list of the cards you actually want, then compare the cost of those singles with the sealed deck price. Include shipping and compare like-for-like conditions and versions. A sealed deck may include cards you do not need; buying singles may be cheaper for your particular list, but that depends on current listings and delivery costs.

Compare asking prices with completed sales
A seller’s current listing is an asking price, not proof that someone paid it. TCGplayer distinguishes its Market Price, based on recent completed sales, from its Listed Median, calculated from current listings. Those measures can differ substantially, so a high listing or median asking price alone is weak evidence of what a deck will sell for.
For the exact deck, compare recent completed sales with current listings. Match the product and condition, and account for version and shipping where those details apply. Completed-sale data is still marketplace-specific and reflects a limited set of transactions; it is not a guaranteed offer from a local store or another marketplace. A price tracker likewise cannot promise what you will receive.

If you already own the deck, separate play value from resale value
Keep it if you still enjoy playing it or value owning it. If you no longer want it, compare recent completed sales with actual offers you could accept, then consider what you would net after any selling costs. Sell only if that amount is worth giving up the deck to you. A price decline by itself does not establish that the price will keep falling, or that it will rebound.
Use MSRP only as a dated reference
Wizards’ announced MSRP for an Aetherdrift Commander deck was $44.99 in its October 25, 2024 announcement. That figure applies to that named release and is a suggested price—not a current price for every Commander deck, a retail price requirement, or a floor that the market must respect. Wizards says retailers may set their own prices. MSRP also does not show whether a product is available or indicate its future value.

More broadly, Wizards’ reprint policy says any card outside the Reserved List may be reprinted. The policy also says that a card’s absence from the list does not indicate plans to reprint it. Neither statement forecasts the price path of a specific deck after a reprint.

A practical comparison before you buy or sell
- Buying sealed: Check the current price of the exact deck and compare it with recent completed sales, not just the highest or median asking prices.
- Buying singles: Add the cost of the cards you want, with shipping and condition considered, and compare that total with the sealed deck price.
- Selling: Compare recent completed sales with actual buy offers and account for selling costs. An asking price is not cash in hand.
- Deciding when: Base the choice on your budget, how soon you want to play, and current evidence for that exact product. There is no established universal percentage or timeline for how much Commander deck prices fall after reprints.
