If a Coco delivery robot blocks your way, take a safe, accessible alternate route if one is available. Don’t step into traffic or another hazardous area to get around it, and don’t push, lift, unlock, obstruct, or tamper with the robot. If the blockage remains or creates a safety or accessibility problem, report it using the contact information displayed on the robot or the appropriate local transportation agency.
Choose a safe way forward
First check whether there is a clear route around the robot that does not compromise your safety or accessibility. If getting past it would mean entering a roadway, using an unsafe surface, or taking a route you cannot use, don’t attempt that detour. Report the obstruction and seek assistance instead.

Don’t move or interfere with the robot
Leave the robot in place. Coco’s customer terms prohibit disabling or obstructing its robots or sensors, damaging them, forcibly unlocking them, or interacting with them beyond retrieving a purchased order. Report the obstruction with useful details
- Record the time and exact location. Include the street, nearest address or intersection, and where on the sidewalk the robot is blocking passage.
- Describe the problem. Explain whether the route is fully blocked, whether a safe accessible route remains, and whether there is an immediate safety concern.
- Note the serial number only if you can do so safely. Don’t approach or touch the robot just to collect it.
- Use the contact information displayed on the robot. If your local transportation agency has a reporting channel for delivery robots or sidewalk obstructions, send the same details there as well.
Washington, DC’s Department of Transportation (DDOT) directs people reporting dangerous or illegal operation of permitted personal delivery devices (PDDs) to the company contact shown on the device or to DDOT. DDOT asks for the time, location, type of violation, and, if possible, the device serial number. Its listed contact details are on its PDD program page; the page lists phone number 202-671-2700 and an email contact.
Those instructions and contacts apply to Washington, DC, not automatically to other cities. Outside DC, use the contact displayed on the robot and check your local transportation agency’s guidance.

If the blockage creates immediate danger
If someone is injured or faces immediate danger, contact the appropriate local emergency service. The reporting channels for ordinary robot-operation concerns are not a substitute for emergency help, and what counts as an emergency depends on the situation and local guidance.

Coco says its robots are remotely piloted by vetted and trained human operators on its community page. Hoboken’s August 2026 announcement about its local pilot says Coco robots there have continuous remote supervision and are designed to slow, stop, or reroute when necessary. A documented sidewalk blockage in Chicago
On September 3, 2026, CBS News Chicago reported that a group of Coco robots blocked a sidewalk in Lincoln Park. Coco called the cause a “sidewalk deployment error,” saying several robots leaving a station had been rerouted at once. The company said the problem was resolved in minutes and that it added safeguards. In Washington, DC, DDOT says permitted PDDs “must always yield the right-of-way to pedestrians.” That is a local permit requirement, not a nationwide rule. Check your local agency’s rules and reporting process rather than assuming the same requirement or contact channel applies where you live. DDOT PDD guidance
