Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIf your internet stopped working after your ISP was bought or another company took over your account, contact the incoming provider first. Ask it to confirm that the transfer is complete, your service is active at your exact address, and there is no network outage or unresolved provisioning issue. Keep a record of the interruption and every conversation. Your rights and escalation options depend on where you live and on what kind of transfer took place.
1. Confirm which provider is responsible for your account
Check your latest provider notice, email, or bill for the incoming company and the transfer’s effective date. Contact that company using a number or sign-in link from a bill, its official website, or a message you already trust. Be cautious of unexpected callers who ask you to pay immediately or grant remote access to a device.

When you reach the provider, ask it to check the specific account and address, rather than assuming the outage is caused by equipment in your home.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Is my account transfer complete, and which company is responsible for my service and billing now?
- Is service active at my exact address, and is there a known outage, work order, or provisioning problem?
- Do I need to activate the account, accept a plan, or take another step before service can resume?
- Should I keep using my existing modem or router, and has the provider confirmed it is compatible?
- What is my case or incident number, and when should I expect the next update?
These are diagnostic questions, not a universal transfer procedure or a guarantee of a restoration time. The title alone cannot establish whether your situation involves a business sale, a provider closing, a network migration, or the transfer of your individual account.

2. Protect your equipment and keep a clear record
Restart equipment only if the provider recommends it or gives you a routine step that will not erase settings. Do not factory-reset provider equipment without instructions. The interruption may be an account or network issue, and a reset could make it harder to restore a working configuration.
Write down when service stopped and keep the transfer notice, bills, support messages, case numbers, promised updates, and the provider’s explanation. Ask for written confirmation of your account status and who is responsible for charges during the transition. This record helps distinguish an availability problem from a billing, equipment, speed, or account-activation dispute.

3. Understand what UK takeover guidance says
Ofcom’s guidance applies to a particular situation: a UK broadband or landline provider goes out of business and another company takes over. It is not a guarantee that every acquisition, voluntary ownership change, or individual account transfer will be interruption-free. Ofcom says, “In most cases this should happen without any interruption to your service,” and “In most cases, your existing contract should transfer to the new provider.” Read Ofcom’s guidance for customers whose provider goes out of business (published 13 February 2026; updated 15 September 2026).
If the new provider changes your contract terms
In the provider-closure takeover scenario, Ofcom says you should have the right to leave without paying an early termination charge if the incoming provider changes your contract terms. Ask the provider to identify the change and confirm your exit rights in writing before deciding what to do.

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
If you want to switch for another reason
If you simply prefer another provider, check whether your minimum contract period is still running and whether leaving would incur charges. Ofcom’s guidance does not establish a general outage-credit amount.
4. If you are in the United States, escalate an unresolved complaint carefully
Start by contacting your provider and giving it a reasonable chance to investigate. The FCC recommends contacting the provider before filing. Its internet complaint categories include availability, billing, equipment (including modem or router issues), interference, and speed; the FCC describes those internet complaint issues here.

If the matter remains unresolved, you can submit an internet complaint through the FCC Consumer Inquiries and Complaints Center. For many billing or service complaints that the FCC serves on a provider, the provider has up to 30 days to respond. That is a response deadline, not a restoration deadline: the FCC says it cannot resolve every individual complaint, and filing does not guarantee reconnection, compensation, or a favorable outcome. See how the FCC handles complaints.
5. Choose a practical next step if service still is not restored
Depending on the provider’s answer and your needs, you may continue with the successor, switch to another available ISP, use temporary mobile connectivity, or contact the relevant regulator. Before choosing, compare the factors that can change the cost and time involved:
Best Value
- Dual band router upgrades to 1200 Mbps high speed internet (300mbps for 2.4GHz plus 900Mbps for 5GHz), reducing buffering and ideal for 4K stream
- Full Gigabit Ports - Gigabit Router with 4 Gigabit LAN ports, ideal for any internet plan and allow you to directly connect your wired devices
- Boosted Coverage - Four external antennas equipped with Beamforming technology extend and concentrate the Wi-Fi signals
- MU-MIMO technology - (5GHz band) allows high speeds for multiple devices simultaneously
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Whether service is available at your exact address.
- How long restoration or a new installation is expected to take.
- Total price and any fees.
- Your remaining contract term and any exit charges.
- Equipment compatibility and return requirements.
- Whether the problem is a network outage or an account/provisioning issue.
Do not buy a modem, router, hotspot, cable, or backup power unit as a general fix for a provider-side transfer interruption. Ask the provider to identify an in-home equipment fault and confirm compatibility before spending money. Outside the UK and US, check your local regulator, contract, and provider notice; rules and remedies vary by jurisdiction.
