Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFirst, check whether the transaction is still pending, then compare its transaction ID, destinations and amounts with what your wallet intended. If it is unconfirmed, contact the wallet provider and use only that wallet’s documented replacement or fee-bump process after verifying every detail. A confirmed transaction cannot be undone with Replace-by-Fee (RBF); an unexpected destination warrants a security check, but does not by itself reveal who caused it.
Check the transaction’s status and details
- Open the wallet that sent the payment. Record the transaction ID (also called the txid) and check whether the wallet shows it as pending/unconfirmed or confirmed.
- Inspect the transaction outputs. Compare each destination address and amount with the payment you meant to make. A transaction can have more than one output, including change returned to your wallet, so do not treat every unfamiliar-looking output as proof of redirection.
- Compare transaction IDs if the wallet reports a replacement. A replacement is a conflicting transaction with its own transaction ID. Check its destinations, amounts and fee in the wallet’s transaction details.
- Keep sensitive credentials private. If you use a public block explorer to inspect a transaction, never enter or share your seed phrase or private keys. The sources here do not establish a particular explorer to use.
The word “redirected” does not establish what happened. An unfamiliar output could reflect a replacement, a wallet display or user error, or a security incident. The transaction details can show where funds are going; they do not, by themselves, identify who authorized a conflicting spend.

What RBF can—and cannot—do
Bitcoin Core describes opt-in Replace-by-Fee as a way to flag an unconfirmed transaction as replaceable. A replacement spends conflicting inputs, and whether it is accepted or relayed depends on node mempool policy. RBF is not an automatic refund or a universal cancel button.
Bitcoin Core’s bumpfee documentation for version 26.0 applies to an eligible opt-in-RBF transaction in that Bitcoin Core wallet. It creates a replacement that retains the original inputs; the additional fee can be covered by reducing change or adding inputs. Wallet or mempool conditions can make the operation fail. These details are specific to Bitcoin Core, not a guarantee for other wallets.
#1 Best Overall
- BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
- SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
- NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
- 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
- BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.
RBF rules and relay policy should not be treated as identical across every node or software version. Bitcoin Core’s current replacement-policy history reflects policy changes, including a move to full-RBF default policy. That does not mean every node or miner follows the same policy.
If the transaction is still unconfirmed
- Use the wallet that created or controls the transaction. Contact its official support channel and ask whether this specific transaction is eligible for RBF, fee bumping, or a wallet-specific cancel/replacement feature.
- Verify before signing. In the wallet’s transaction details, check the replacement’s destination address or addresses, amounts and fee. Confirm that you control the inputs being spent. Do not approve a replacement merely because a control is labelled “cancel” or “speed up.”
- Follow only documented instructions for that wallet. Bitcoin Core’s
bumpfeeRPC is for its own wallet, not a general set of steps that applies to other apps. A wallet may not offer a replacement option, or the attempt may not succeed. - If an output is unfamiliar, pause and investigate. Stop approving new wallet prompts on a device that may be affected. Preserve the transaction IDs and relevant wallet and device details, then seek the wallet provider’s incident guidance. An unfamiliar output is a reason to investigate, not proof of an attacker or a particular cause.
There is no universal pending-transaction expiry time established here. Any waiting period or claim that a transaction will drop should be treated as guidance for the specific wallet or service that states it, not as a general Bitcoin network rule.

If the transaction is confirmed
RBF cannot undo a confirmation. If a confirmed payment went to an address you do not control, the sources cited here establish no Bitcoin protocol mechanism that can force the recipient to return it. Contact the wallet provider through its official support channel for guidance, but do not assume a support team can reverse the payment.

How to tell which situation you are facing
| Situation | What it means | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Your intended transaction is pending and the wallet offers an eligible replacement process | A wallet-supported fee bump or replacement may be possible; success is not guaranteed. | Check the exact destination, amount and fee before signing through that wallet’s documented process. |
| A different transaction appears to spend your inputs, but you did not authorize it | This is an unexplained conflicting spend. The output alone does not establish who caused it. | Pause wallet approvals on a potentially affected device, preserve transaction and device details, and contact the provider. |
| The payment is confirmed | RBF is no longer a way to replace or reverse it. | Contact the provider for incident guidance; do not expect protocol-level recovery. |
| The wallet shows no replacement option or a replacement attempt fails | Eligibility and acceptance depend on wallet and mempool conditions. | Ask the wallet provider what options its software supports; do not assume another wallet’s instructions apply. |
