Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →First check whether the mini PC’s BIOS/UEFI detects all the installed RAM. If it does not, investigate the memory modules, supported configuration, firmware, and hardware. If it does, but Windows reports less usable memory, check the Windows edition and architecture, then distinguish a genuine hardware-reserved amount from graphics memory that is only available for shared use.
Record the readings before changing anything
Write down the mini PC’s exact model and processor, how much RAM is installed, and the module arrangement (including whether memory is removable or soldered). Record the capacity shown in BIOS/UEFI, then check Windows’ installed, usable, and hardware-reserved memory figures, along with the Windows edition and system type. These readings show which part of the system needs attention.

Do not use a graphics-memory figure as a direct measure of missing RAM. Integrated graphics can draw on system memory, and the displayed shared-memory amount can be a limit rather than a block that is permanently unavailable to Windows.

Does BIOS/UEFI detect all the installed memory?
If firmware reports less than you installed
Start with the exact mini PC’s specifications and service guide. Confirm that the memory’s generation and form factor, capacity, speed, slot count, and arrangement are supported by that model and processor. A module that physically fits is not necessarily supported. Intel’s memory troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking compatibility and the board’s configuration documentation.

If the memory is replaceable, power the unit down and follow the manufacturer’s instructions before opening it. Check that modules are seated correctly. If the service guide supports it, test one module or configuration at a time; this can help distinguish an incompatible or faulty module from a slot or channel issue. Do not open a mini PC with soldered memory expecting to reseat or replace it.
Intel’s general advice is to “Load the default setting for the BIOS, or update to the latest BIOS.” Follow the instructions for your specific mini PC when restoring defaults or updating firmware; a generic flashing procedure could be unsafe or incorrect for your model. If a supported configuration still fails to appear in BIOS/UEFI, the module, slot, memory controller, or another hardware component may need diagnosis.

Why firmware detection matters
If BIOS/UEFI itself sees less memory than is installed, changing a Windows setting or graphics-memory value is unlikely to solve the underlying detection problem. Establish the supported memory configuration first, then check seating and firmware using the maker’s instructions.
Does BIOS/UEFI see all the RAM, but Windows shows less usable memory?
Check the Windows edition and architecture
Windows has physical-memory ceilings that vary by edition and architecture. Microsoft lists these limits:
Rank #3
- Capacity – 32GB RAM KIT (2 x 16GB Modules) Speed up to 3200MHz Non-ECC Unbuffered 260-Pin 1.2V SODIMM.
- Specs – PCB Color (Green or Black, or Blue) and Rank (1Rx8 or 2Rx8) may vary depending on production batch. Performance and quality remain consistent across all Timetec products. 3200MHz Memory RAM can automatically downclock to 2933MHz or 2666MHz if system specification only supports 2933MHz or 2666MHz.
- Compatibility – Designed for selected DDR4 Laptop, Notebook, Mini PCs, and All-In-One systems(AIO) that support 260-Pin SODIMM memory. NOT compatible with Desktop DIMM slots.
- Installation – Plug-and-Play Upgrade, Quick and Easy to Install, no expertise required (please refer to your system's manual for guidelines).
- Warranty – All Timetec products are high-quality and rigorously tested to meet stringent standards. Backed by Timetec Limited Lifetime Warranty and professional technical support based in the United States.
| Windows edition and architecture | Physical-memory limit |
|---|---|
| Windows 11 Home, x64 or ARM64 | 128 GB |
| Windows 11 Pro, x64 or ARM64 | 2 TB |
| Windows 10 Home, x64 | 128 GB |
| Windows 10 client editions, x86 | 4 GB |
These are operating-system ceilings, not promises that a mini PC supports the same capacity. The processor and mini PC maker may impose lower limits. See Microsoft’s Windows memory limits table for the edition and architecture details.
Interpret “hardware reserved” and graphics figures carefully
Windows’ hardware-reserved figure can include memory or address space assigned to devices and system functions. Its meaning depends on the hardware and firmware. Intel’s example for NUC 12 Extreme and Pro X describes allocations for PCIe configuration, chipset and M.2 mapped I/O, and graphics; that product family can allocate up to 1.5 GB for shared graphics, with a 64 MB default. Those figures apply to that Intel product example, not to mini PCs generally. See the Intel NUC 12 memory and address-space information.

For integrated Intel graphics, the displayed shared-system-memory number is not necessarily a fixed reservation: Intel says, “The reported Shared System Memory is not an ongoing reservation of system memory.” Intel also notes that a default 128 MB Dedicated Video Memory figure may be fictitious compatibility reporting. That display figure does not, by itself, mean 128 MB of physical RAM is missing. See Intel’s graphics-memory FAQ.

A substantial gap between firmware detection and Windows usability still warrants model-specific investigation. Do not assume that every unavailable megabyte is normal graphics use.

Should you change the graphics-memory setting?
Only investigate this setting when firmware sees the full RAM and the readings or the mini PC’s manual point to a graphics allocation. Depending on the manufacturer, a control may be called VRAM, DVMT, or UMA Frame Buffer Size; it may be absent altogether. Intel says integrated graphics memory is shared and allocated automatically, and the available BIOS controls depend on the system maker.
For AMD systems, AMD says, “The amount of shared system memory, also known as UMA frame buffer size, is usually set to Auto in the BIOS by default and does not need adjusting.” AMD cautions that assigning 2 GB on a system with 4 GB of RAM can hurt overall performance. Leave the setting at Auto unless the exact mini PC documentation supports another value and the evidence points to that allocation. See AMD’s UMA frame-buffer guidance.
When should you reseat or replace the RAM?
Consider reseating or replacing a module only if the mini PC has serviceable, removable memory and the evidence points to seating, compatibility, or a failed component. Before buying a kit, verify each item against the manufacturer’s specifications:

- Maximum capacity and supported module capacities.
- Supported speed and any requirements for matched modules.
- Slot count and recommended channel arrangement.
- Whether the memory is replaceable at all, rather than soldered.
There is no safe one-size-fits-all RAM recommendation without the mini PC model and processor. If the unit uses soldered memory, a SO-DIMM kit cannot replace it. A screwdriver is relevant only when the service manual calls for opening the case; it cannot fix a firmware limit or a failed soldered-memory component.
Quick Recap
A practical order for troubleshooting
- Record the baseline: note the model, processor, installed modules, BIOS/UEFI total, Windows installed and usable totals, hardware-reserved amount, edition, and architecture.
- Compare firmware with the installed capacity: if BIOS/UEFI is short, verify supported memory and configuration in the maker’s documentation.
- Check serviceable modules safely: follow the service guide for powering down, reseating, and testing supported single-module arrangements.
- Use only model-specific firmware steps: restore defaults or update BIOS/UEFI as directed by the mini PC maker.
- If firmware sees all memory, check Windows limits and reporting: compare the edition and architecture with Microsoft’s table, then inspect hardware-reserved and graphics-memory figures.
- Adjust graphics allocation only with evidence: consult the mini PC manual and leave an Auto setting unchanged unless the vendor’s guidance supports a different choice.
