Before switching, check whether the exact Android phone you’re considering can replace the Pixel features you use, transfer the data and app content you need, activate on your carrier, and work with your accessories. Android-to-Android setup supports many common data types, but it does not guarantee that every app’s private data, Pixel setting, or feature will carry over. Verify the destination phone’s instructions and keep your Pixel intact until you have checked the new phone.
Start with the things you rely on
Make a short list of features and routines you actually use, especially ones that could be specific to Pixel or depend on a particular app. Google documents Call Screen, caller ID and spam protection, Verified SMS, SMS spam protection, and Now Playing on Pixel. That documentation is not a promise that another Android phone offers the same functions.

Check the target model’s current feature list and whether each feature is available in your country and language. Google notes that its spam detection is limited to the US and English, and that Call Screen may not detect every robocall or spam call. Check what will transfer—and what needs separate attention
Google’s Android transfer guide lists common categories such as apps, music, photos, videos, contacts, texts, wallpaper, and call history. It qualifies that DRM-protected music is excluded and that phone settings vary by device and Android version. Google’s detailed Pixel transfer table describes transfers to a Pixel from another Android phone. It includes categories such as Google Account data, passwords and passkeys, settings, calendar events, messages and attachments, files, call history, photos and videos, contacts, WhatsApp history, apps, audio files, and custom-photo wallpaper. Some entries are conditional on the app or account used, and apps are listed as transferring if downloaded or purchased through Google Play. The table marks recordings and home-screen layout as not transferring from other Android devices. Because that table is for a Pixel destination, it is not a guarantee for a move from Pixel to a phone made by another manufacturer. Follow the destination maker’s instructions. Before setup, identify apps whose information matters and check whether each has its own cloud backup, export, or sign-in process. Update messaging apps, check whether any older messages are stored on a SIM, and confirm cloud backups are current. Some apps may take time to download and install during setup. Do not erase or trade in the Pixel until you have opened the important apps on the new phone and verified their contents.

Confirm the setup method and mobile service
Google documents wired USB-C cable transfer and wireless methods for supported Pixel workflows. Its instructions describe QR-code pairing for Pixel 8 and later, and say additional data can be transferred after initial setup on Pixel 9 and later. Those are instructions for a Pixel as the destination; when moving to another brand, use that phone’s current setup guide. For SIM or eSIM service, confirm that your carrier supports the exact destination model and ask what activation steps apply to your account. Google says the device will guide eSIM download or transfer, but the process can vary by device and operator. Complete any required carrier-app, account, or support steps before wiping the Pixel. Check watches, Bluetooth devices, and password access
Plan to pair Bluetooth accessories again if needed. Google’s Android guide specifically warns that some headphones, speakers, and other devices may need to be paired through Bluetooth settings on the new phone. For watches, check compatibility for the exact watch and destination phone rather than assuming that compatibility with Pixel proves compatibility with every Android model. Google says most Wear OS and Fitbit watches work with Pixel; that statement does not establish compatibility with an unspecified replacement. If you use Google Password Manager, check that your passwords and passkeys are available through the Google Account on the new phone. If you use another password manager, install and enable that app on the destination device before relying on it for sign-ins. Review other connected services, such as payment or fitness apps, individually.

Compare the exact phone models, not just the brands
If you have more than one candidate, compare the specific models and regional versions on the points that affect your daily use:

- Feature continuity: Does it perform the call, photo, voice, recording, or other task you depend on, in your country and language?
- Data continuity: Which data categories does its setup process copy, and which apps require their own backup, export, or sign-in?
- Update commitment: What OS and security support is stated for that exact model, and when does the support period begin?
- Accessories: Will your watch, earbuds, Bluetooth devices, and charging accessories work? Will anything need re-pairing or replacing?
- Connectivity: Does the exact model work with your carrier, network bands, SIM or eSIM arrangement, and activation process?
- Routine and total cost: Consider storage, subscriptions, accessory replacements, account or cloud changes, and whether the new phone’s everyday interface suits you.
Update promises need careful scope. Google Store’s current Pixel portfolio material states seven years of OS and security updates; Google Safety Center separately says at least five years of security updates from the date a device first became available on the Google Store in the US.
