Before subscribing, verify what the tool actually delivers, whether you can keep editing the result in your intended engine, what the subscription and usage limits will cost, and how its terms handle generated content and your data. “AI game generator” can describe anything from a prompt-based prototype maker to an assistant that works inside a full game editor; the label alone does not tell you whether it fits your project.
1. Find out what you get—not just what the demo shows
Ask for a real example made with the product and inspect the deliverable. It might be a playable preview, an editable project, scripts and assets, or a hosted experience confined to the provider’s platform. Those are not interchangeable. Confirm whether you can inspect and revise individual parts, export or otherwise preserve your work, and continue development without paying for or accessing the service.

Do not assume a prompt produces a complete, tested, maintainable game. You may still need to iterate on the design, debug scripts, refine assets, and playtest the result. Roblox’s July 16, 2026 announcement describes Build on mobile as producing a basic game starting point for creators to iterate on and playtest—not a finished game delivered in one step. The distinction between one-shot generation and editor assistance matters. Roblox describes Studio Assistant as able to write and run Luau, generate assets, and playtest. Unity describes its in-editor assistant as project-aware, able to drive Editor actions and verify changes. Roblox engineering leader Nick Tornow wrote on April 15, 2026, that “AI tools that intake a prompt and output a solution in one step can feel like shooting in the dark and often fail to truly capture a creator’s original intent.” That is his characterization of one-step workflows, not a claim that every generator performs the same way. 2. Check fit with your engine and publishing route
Choose the destination before choosing the tool: Roblox, Unity, another engine, or a standalone web or mobile game. Then verify the exact output format, supported engine versions and operating systems, target devices, and publishing route. Ask whether you can modify the output in the destination engine, collaborate with teammates, and use your existing version-control workflow.

Unity’s documented AI workflow requires Unity 6.0 or later. Roblox documents connecting MCP-capable external clients to an open Studio session, and describes Rojo and Git for filesystem-based project development. 3. Calculate the cost after the trial
Compare the full expected bill with the work you plan to do. Include the recurring subscription, trial conversion, generation credits, extra-credit charges, and any separate model subscription. Check rate and concurrency limits, seat limits, renewal and cancellation rules, and whether exporting or generating particular assets requires a higher tier.
Unity’s official pages currently describe several different access routes: Personal is free; the pricing page advertises a 14-day trial of AI tools; plan tiers list monthly AI-credit allowances; and the AI tools FAQ says a Personal Edition assistant trial converts to a $10/month subscription. The FAQ also says the CLI, MCP server, and official plugin are free. These are Unity-specific terms, not a general price benchmark for AI game generators, and offers can change. For any product, estimate how many generations or revisions your project will need rather than pricing it around the first prompt. A low entry price may be a poor fit if normal iteration consumes credits quickly or if the export you need sits behind a more expensive plan.

Before uploading a project or using generated work commercially, read the applicable terms for code, art, audio, and other assets. Look for commercial-use permissions, ownership language, attribution duties, restrictions on outputs, training-data use, retention, opt-out controls, and what happens to your work when you cancel. Do not assume that a tool’s ability to generate an asset automatically gives you every right needed to ship it.

Unity says generated assets include metadata identifying them as AI-generated and places responsibility on developers to verify usage rights and app-store declarations. Check the terms for the particular content you plan to release and the store where you will publish it. Unity AI tools
Roblox says creators can control data sharing for AI enhancement. Sharing is on by default for games, avatar items, and paid assets published on or after July 10, 2024; creators can change the default and override it during publishing. Roblox also says public generative-AI training datasets vary by system and version, with training ranges that can exceed 3 million distinct assets. That is not one fixed dataset size for every model. Roblox generative AI rules

5. Check safety duties on the platform where players will use the game
If you plan to publish on Roblox, review its rules for AI-generated content and third-party tools. Roblox says creators remain responsible for content delivered to players when using third-party AI and must not bypass required safety measures. If players can interact with a model in a way that triggers a response, those interactions must be disclosed in the Content Maturity questionnaire. Make a small, reversible test first
- Define the task. Write down your target engine, publishing platform, and one representative feature you need help creating.
- Test the actual workflow. Use a trial or free route, if available, to produce that feature and inspect what the tool returns.
- Check the handoff. Confirm that you can edit, test, and preserve the project in your intended environment.
- Review the terms. Check the current price, usage limits, rights, data settings, and platform obligations for your specific use.
- Subscribe only if the test passes. Make sure the paid plan solves a real workflow problem at a predictable cost, not just that the demo looks impressive.
