Before buying an Aqara thermostat for a radiator, check the valve—not just the heating system. The Aqara Radiator Thermostat E1 (SRTS-A01) is a smart thermostatic radiator valve, not a universal wall thermostat for controlling any boiler. It is intended for supported thermostatic radiator valves, and Aqara says it does not directly support manual valves, return temperature limiter (RTL) valves, or monotube radiator systems.
1. Check whether your radiator valve is compatible
The E1 attaches to a valve on an individual radiator. Aqara specifies an M30×1.5 mm threaded connection and includes adapters for RA, RAV, and RAVL valve types. Aqara describes the included adapters as compatible with “the majority of radiator valves,” but that does not mean every valve or heating setup will fit.

- Directly documented: M30×1.5 mm connections, plus the included RA, RAV, and RAVL adapters.
- Not directly supported: manual radiator valves, RTL valves, and monotube radiator systems.
If your existing valve is not one of the supported types, Aqara says conversion with an aftermarket adapter may be possible in many cases. Fit depends on the exact valve, so do not assume a generic adapter will work; ask a professional installer or an official distributor if you are unsure. See Aqara’s Radiator Thermostat E1 product page and official specifications for the documented compatibility details.

2. Check the hub and ecosystem you plan to use
The E1 communicates over Zigbee 3.0, and Aqara says an Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub is required. Check that you have a compatible Aqara hub—or include one in your setup—and verify support for the specific platform and functions you want.

- Apple Adaptive Temperature - With the Apple Home app, Adaptive Temperature uses your iPhone to adjust the thermostat based on activity states like 'home', 'sleep', 'away' and 'extended away'. This provides comfort upon arrival home and saves energy when away, without the complicated steps of creating or managing schedules. (Note: Adaptive Temperature requires a home hub (Apple TV or HomePod) and an iPhone or Apple Watch, all running version 26 or later.)
- Apple Clean Energy Guidance: Smarter Energy Savings - With the Apple Home app, Clean Energy Guidance makes small temperature adjustments to use cleaner grid times when electricity may cost less, while maintaining comfort. The forecast is personalized for your home location using environmental and grid data. (Note: Clean Energy Guidance is available only in the contiguous U.S.)
- Easy Installation with Wide HVAC Compatibility - Designed to fit most homes, W200 works with about 85% of HVAC systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, boilers, and PTAC units. No C-wire? Simply add the Aqara C-Wire Adapter (sold separately) for stable power. We even include a trim kit to easily cover old wiring and keep your wall looking clean and fresh.
- Functions as a Smart Display for Your Front Door - W200 works as a visual control panel for your Aqara video doorbell (only compatible with G410/G400, G4 excluded) and smart lock, showing visitor snapshots right on the screen and letting you unlock the door with a simple tap. No need to open an app on your phone or run to the door.
- Control Your Climate Your Way: App, Voice Assistant, or One-Tap Button Control – You can manually adjust the temperature via the app, or through voice assistants like Alexa or Siri when connected. You can also use the W100 wireless sensor (sold separately) for quick one-tap physical control. Perfect for easy changes from the couch, bed, or anywhere in your home.
Aqara lists Apple HomeKit, Alexa, Google, and IFTTT support. It describes Matter support as an update for supported Aqara hubs; this is not a guarantee that every Aqara hub or every ecosystem supports every feature. Consult Aqara’s product page for its current compatibility information before choosing a hub.
3. Decide whether you need a separate temperature sensor
The E1 has a built-in temperature sensor, but its position close to the radiator can affect how well its reading represents the rest of the room. Aqara warns that vertical installation may produce inaccurate readings. Its manual says an external Aqara temperature sensor is required for more accurate control in the illustrated mounting methods.

You can connect an Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensor or TVOC monitor for readings from elsewhere in the room. That sensor is an optional accessory for room-level measurement; it is separate from the Aqara Zigbee hub, which Aqara requires. If room temperature is what you want the radiator to regulate, consider where the E1 will sit and whether you want to add an external sensor. Aqara’s user manual explains the mounting and sensor guidance.

Aqara’s installation guidance says horizontal mounting gives more accurate temperature readings than vertical mounting. If the valve is hard to identify, access is awkward, or you are uncertain about conversion or fitting, consult an installer rather than forcing the device onto the radiator. See the Aqara FAQ and installation overview for its setup instructions.

What to confirm before you buy
- Identify the exact radiator valve type and check it against the M30×1.5 mm connection or included RA, RAV, and RAVL adapters.
- Confirm that your system is not using a manual valve, RTL valve, or monotube radiator arrangement that Aqara lists as unsupported.
- Allow for an Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub and verify the hub supports the ecosystem features you need.
- Decide whether the built-in sensor’s position is suitable or whether you want an optional external Aqara sensor.
- Make sure you can fit and calibrate the E1 safely, and seek installer advice if valve compatibility is uncertain.
