Before buying a newly launched phone in India, compare the amount you will actually pay at checkout—not just the advertised launch price—and verify the warranty and exchange conditions for the exact model, seller and offer. A card discount may not apply to every buyer, an exchange quote may change after inspection, and warranty terms differ by brand and purchase channel.
1. Check the real payable price
Start with the exact phone variant and seller. A launch announcement, a brand’s own store, a marketplace listing and an offline retailer may show different prices or attach different conditions to an offer. The National Consumer Helpline says consumers have the right to know a product’s quality, price and standards before purchase: National Consumer Helpline.

- Record the listed price. Note the model, storage and RAM variant, seller, and date you checked the listing.
- Check the checkout total. Proceed far enough through checkout to see the amount due and any additional charges or payment conditions.
- Separate guaranteed savings from conditional offers. Mark bank-card, EMI, coupon and exchange reductions as conditional unless they apply automatically to your purchase.
- Break out exchange value. If an advertised “effective price” includes an old-phone trade-in, record the new phone’s price, the base exchange quote and any separate bonus. Do not treat the exchange value as a guaranteed discount if inspection or eligibility can change it.
There is no single launch price or standard offer that can be applied to every Indian buyer: the figures depend on the specific phone, seller and dated offer. Verify the live listing and terms rather than relying on an announcement or an older offer.

Do not assume that every brand—or every purchase channel—provides the same warranty. Read the India policy for the exact model before ordering, and save the relevant terms with your invoice.

- Does the policy cover phones sold in India, and is your seller eligible?
- What proof of purchase is required, and when does the warranty period begin?
- How long does coverage last, and which defects or damage are covered or excluded?
- Is the stated remedy repair, replacement or another option, and who decides?
- How do you reach an authorised service centre, and does service require carry-in?
- Does any promotional or extended cover require registration or separate activation?
Published policies illustrate why the details matter
For vivo handsets sold in India, vivo’s policy describes a one-year handset warranty, requires valid proof of purchase for warranty service, and says a functional error within 30 days of purchase may qualify for the customer’s choice of replacement or repair. Read the vivo India warranty terms for the applicable conditions.
Google’s India hardware warranty describes a two-year limited warranty for the phone and one year for accessories when purchased from Google or an authorised reseller. It lists exclusions and says the remedy may be repair, replacement or refund at Google’s discretion, subject to the policy; it also says statutory rights are not reduced. Samsung directs buyers to model pages for specific promotional or extended warranty terms and notes that invoice dates are used to verify warranty timing. Check Samsung India warranty support for the relevant device. These are examples of individual brand policies, not a standard warranty duration for phones in India.

A warranty period is only useful if you know its start date. In a government release dated 22 June 2024 about appliance warranty commencement, CCPA Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare said consumers should be clearly informed about the warranty period’s starting point. That release discusses appliances, not a phone-specific warranty rule; use it as a reminder to confirm the date stated in your phone’s own policy and purchase documents. Read the government release.

3. Treat an exchange quote as conditional until you know the rules
Before using an old phone’s quoted value to judge affordability, check the offer’s eligibility and inspection rules. Programs can impose conditions on the model, IMEI, geography, locks and device condition. Confirm what must be removed or handed over, including account locks, and whether you need to back up and erase your data.
Understand inspection and repricing
Some programs assess the old phone only at pickup. OPPO’s published exchange terms provide one example: the declared model and IMEI are checked, along with condition and locks, and devices purchased outside India are excluded. For deferred exchange, the final value is determined after physical and functional evaluation. If the phone is unacceptable or the buyer rejects the revised price, pickup is cancelled and neither the exchange value nor any bonus is paid. The new-device order is not cancelled for that reason. That outcome is specific to OPPO’s example terms, not a universal rule. For any other offer, check separately what happens to the new-phone order, exchange pickup and bonus if inspection changes the quote or the old device is rejected.
4. Compare two or more offers on the same basis
Use the same phone variant and comparable checkout conditions for each seller. Record whether a discount is certain, whether an exchange value can change, and what warranty applies to that seller’s purchase.
