A “one-time purchase” can give you ongoing rights to use a particular version without including future upgrades, maintenance or support. Before buying a discounted PDF editor, check the exact license, version, update terms, device limits, features and seller—not just the price.
What does “one-time purchase” or “perpetual license” mean?
These terms describe the right to use software under a license; they do not automatically promise every future major version, lifetime support or continuing updates. Foxit’s EULA puts it plainly: “The Product is licensed and not sold.” Read the EULA for the exact edition and version you are considering, and check what rights remain if you do not renew optional services.

PDF-XChange says its end-user licenses are perpetual, with no annual subscription fee. Its 2026 EULA says a buyer may continue using the purchased version without further payment, provided they follow the agreement. That is a right to keep using the licensed version—not a promise of free access to every later release. PDF-XChange licensing and EULA information

Will you still get updates and support if you stop paying?
Separate the right to use the version you bought from access to later releases, fixes and support. PDF-XChange offers optional annual maintenance that provides access to later releases, features, fixes and updates. If maintenance ends, the purchased version remains usable under the EULA, but the vendor says users who do not continue maintenance are responsible for retaining their installation files; older installers are not provided in perpetuity. Save the installer, applicable EULA and proof of purchase while you can access them.

For any product, check how long support and fixes are included, whether maintenance is optional or required for future versions, and what happens when it lapses. Do not assume “lifetime” refers to upgrades or support unless the written terms say so.
How many users and devices can use the license?
Read the license for the specific user, device and work arrangement you need. A license may be per user or per device, and permission to install on more than one computer does not necessarily permit simultaneous or shared use.
PDF-XChange’s end-user rights allow one licensed user to install on a desktop and one secondary laptop or notepad, as the primary user of both; the rights include personal, commercial or business use, subject to the stated limits. PDF-XChange licensing and EULA information

Is the discounted license key legitimate?
A low price alone cannot establish that a key is authorized. Prefer the vendor or a retailer the vendor clearly authorizes. Before paying, verify:

- Whether the license can be transferred or reactivated, and any device restrictions.

- The taxes, refund policy and applicable EULA at checkout.
- Whether the discount changes maintenance, updates or upgrade entitlements.
The cited vendor information does not validate any particular third-party offer. If the seller cannot clearly identify the license and its governing terms, treat the offer as unverified rather than assuming the key is legitimate.
