Measure the gap first, then compare the cart’s full outer dimensions with the space and check that its shelves, load limits, casters, and materials suit what you plan to store. “Narrow” is not a standard size: the examples below range from 5 inches wide to 13 cm wide to 8 inches deep, and those measurements describe different dimensions.
Measure the gap and the cart’s full footprint
Measure the usable opening at its narrowest point—not just at floor level. Include baseboards, trim, pipes, hoses, handles, and anything else that could obstruct the cart. Compare the gap with the cart’s overall width and depth, and check its height against counters, shelves, or other overhead obstacles.

Confirm which dimension a listing calls width and which it calls depth, and whether handles or other protrusions are included in the overall measurements. A cart that is 8 inches deep is not necessarily 8 inches wide. Verify the orientation and current specifications on the product listing before ordering.

Check shelf space and clearance for your items
A cart’s footprint does not tell you whether a particular bottle, appliance, basket, or box will fit. Compare usable shelf width and depth with the items you plan to store, and check vertical clearance between shelves. Shelf lips and guardrails can reduce the opening, and shelf spacing may vary within the same cart.

Yamazaki lists internal shelf dimensions and guard heights for its Tower cart, so compare those measurements—not only its 13 cm overall width—with your items. Costway describes guardrails on its four-tier cart. For adjustable wire shelving, Shelving Inc. says the three shelves can be moved on 1-inch centers; that offers spacing flexibility, but it does not change the cart’s overall footprint.

Match the load rating to each shelf and the actual load
Read the rating for the specific shelf you intend to use. A cart’s total or evenly distributed capacity is not the same as the limit for one shelf, and neither necessarily describes a heavy object concentrated in one spot. Keep the units and shelf labels attached to each figure when comparing products; the cited listings do not establish a common test standard.

These are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent test results. Use the current listing for the exact model and follow its instructions for distributing weight.
Inspect the caster layout and stopping method
Count the casters that lock or have brakes, and check their locations. Costway describes two lockable casters out of four on each of the cited carts; Shelving Inc. lists 3-inch casters with brakes. Those features tell you what the listings claim, but they do not establish how a loaded cart will behave on your particular floor or on a slope.

Consider whether the cart needs to stay in place while you access its contents, whether you can reach the brakes after positioning it, and whether its intended location is level. Do not treat locking casters as a guarantee that the cart cannot move in every setting.

Material and design affect whether a cart suits its environment and contents. Compare the listed materials, shelf adjustability, edge containment, and care guidance rather than relying on broad claims about durability.

The cited specifications do not establish the assembly time or whether tools are included across these models, so confirm those details for the product you are considering. Also check that you can assemble it in the intended location if the finished cart will not fit through a doorway or around a corner.
