The litigation is not, on the available record, a reason to replace an existing Snapdragon X laptop or avoid one solely because it uses a Qualcomm processor. One case ended with a judgment for Qualcomm and Nuvia, which Arm appealed; a separate dispute over Qualcomm’s own agreements was still at trial in the latest report dated October 6, 2026.
There are two different Qualcomm–Arm legal disputes
The first case concerned an Arm license held by Nuvia, a company Qualcomm acquired in 2021, and whether Qualcomm’s own licenses covered CPU designs it obtained in that acquisition. Qualcomm later brought a separate case about its own contractual relationship with Arm. The cases have different claims and different procedural outcomes.

| Issue | Arm’s 2022 case involving Nuvia | Qualcomm’s separate case against Arm |
|---|---|---|
| What it concerns | Arm alleged that Nuvia’s license was terminated after it assigned the license without Arm’s consent, and that Qualcomm and Nuvia did not meet termination obligations. Qualcomm argued its existing licenses covered the acquired CPU designs. | Qualcomm alleges that Arm failed to provide contractual deliverables and breached obligations under Qualcomm’s agreements, including disputes over license terms and a notice seeking to terminate Qualcomm’s architecture license. |
| Procedural status | The court entered final judgment for Qualcomm and Nuvia on September 30, 2025. Arm appealed to the Third Circuit on October 1, 2025; the appellate outcome is not established in the sources cited here. | Qualcomm’s June 2026 filing scheduled trial to start October 5, 2026. Android Central reported on October 6 that a jury trial was underway, alongside a separate bench trial concerning whether Arm negotiated next-generation architecture terms in good faith. No verdict was reported. |
| What has been decided | The jury found Qualcomm did not breach Nuvia’s architecture license agreement and that Qualcomm CPUs incorporating the acquired designs were licensed under Qualcomm’s own agreement. The jury did not decide whether Nuvia itself had breached; the court later entered judgment for Nuvia on that remaining issue. | Qualcomm’s claims remain allegations, not findings. Arm disputes Qualcomm’s assertions and says it intends to defend itself. |
The procedural descriptions above reflect Qualcomm’s filings and company statements, Arm’s filing, and the October 6 Android Central report. The companies contest the merits of the newer case, so allegations in it should not be read as established facts.

What the Nuvia judgment means for Snapdragon designs
The first case addressed whether Qualcomm could use the CPU designs it acquired from Nuvia under Qualcomm’s own Arm license. The jury’s findings and the September 2025 final judgment support Qualcomm’s contractual right to use the designs at issue in that case. Reporting associates Nuvia-derived CPU designs with Qualcomm Snapdragon products, including PC processors.

Qualcomm’s December 20, 2024 release quoted its then-General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Ann Chaplin, saying: “The jury has vindicated Qualcomm’s right to innovate and affirmed that all the Qualcomm products at issue in the case are protected by Qualcomm’s contract with ARM.” That is Qualcomm’s characterization of the verdict, not wording from the court. Qualcomm described the September 2025 judgment as a “full victory”; the neutral procedural point is that the court entered final judgment for Qualcomm and Nuvia, and Arm appealed.
The ruling is significant for the specific designs and claims before that court, but it does not decide the appeal or settle every later licensing, royalty, or architecture-negotiation question between the companies.

What is happening in Qualcomm’s separate case
Qualcomm says it sued Arm Holdings in April 2024 over alleged failures to provide contractual deliverables. It later added claims concerning Arm’s notice seeking termination of Qualcomm’s architecture license agreement (ALA) and alleged failures under the technology license agreement (TLA). In March 2026, Qualcomm added a claim about good-faith negotiation of certain license terms. These descriptions come from Qualcomm’s filings; Arm disputes the allegations.

Android Central’s October 6, 2026 report described the trial as underway after its scheduled October 5 start. It also reported that Qualcomm sought to freeze its Arm royalty payments for five years. That was a request in the litigation, not a court-ordered payment suspension or a decided outcome. The report described a separate bench trial about whether Arm negotiated next-generation architecture terms in good faith; it did not report a verdict in either proceeding.

The sources available for this article do not report a recall, a retail-device injunction, or a requirement that owners replace Snapdragon X Windows laptops. They also do not establish that a particular laptop model is affected. That is a statement about what these dated filings and reports document, not a guarantee about future litigation or product plans.

In practical terms, this is a dispute over licensing rights and the parties’ future contractual terms. The record described here does not show a consumer-level disruption to current Snapdragon X laptops.
