NVIDIA lists 72 Rubin GPUs, 36 Vera CPUs, NVLink 6 switches, ConnectX-9 SuperNICs and BlueField-4 DPUs. NVLink connects GPUs within the rack; Ethernet or InfiniBand provides options for connecting the rack to a larger network.
What does the Vera Rubin NVL72 rack include?
NVIDIA’s platform overview describes a system built from compute, internal GPU interconnect and networking components. Its listed core counts are 72 Rubin GPUs and 36 Vera CPUs. The DGX specification also identifies nine L1 NVLink switches, ConnectX-9 SuperNICs and BlueField-4 DPUs. NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin overview and the DGX Vera Rubin NVL72 specifications provide the vendor’s component details.

| Component | Role in the rack |
|---|---|
| 72 Rubin GPUs | AI accelerators that provide the rack’s GPU compute capacity. |
| 36 Vera CPUs | CPU compute paired with the GPUs. CPU resources are distinct from GPU memory and compute; the published component counts alone do not specify how a particular workload divides work between them. |
| NVLink 6 switches | Internal scale-up fabric for GPU-to-GPU communication. DGX specifications list nine L1 switches. |
| ConnectX-9 SuperNICs | Network interfaces for connecting the system beyond the rack. DGX specifications list InfiniBand and Ethernet interface options at 800 Gb/s; deployment-specific configurations should be checked against current product documentation. |
| BlueField-4 DPUs | Data-processing units included among the rack’s networking and infrastructure components. NVIDIA’s listed specifications do not establish a particular offload configuration for every deployment. |
How do Rubin GPUs, Vera CPUs and NVLink work together?
The GPUs are the accelerators, the CPUs provide the rack’s CPU compute, and NVLink lets the GPUs communicate across the system. NVIDIA describes the 72 GPUs as operating together as a rack-scale accelerator through NVLink 6. That is a description of the interconnect and system design, not a guarantee that every application will use all 72 GPUs efficiently or behave the same way.

Is NVLink the same as Ethernet or InfiniBand?
No. NVLink is the scale-up fabric for communication among GPUs inside the NVL72 rack. Ethernet and InfiniBand are scale-out networking options for connecting the rack to other systems and infrastructure. They serve different parts of an AI deployment and do not replace one another.
NVIDIA names Spectrum-X Ethernet and Quantum-X800 InfiniBand as scale-out options for its AI-factory networking. Which option and interface configuration a deployment uses depends on the system configuration and surrounding network. NVIDIA’s platform overview names both network families.

- Fast Installation: Rackmount holder design allows straightforward setup using standard rack hardware, minimizing installation time.
What NVLink bandwidth does NVIDIA claim?
NVIDIA’s published figures do not align, so they should not be combined as though they were a single confirmed rack measurement. The Vera Rubin product overview lists 216 TB/s of rack NVLink bandwidth, while a March 16, 2026 NVIDIA newsroom announcement cites 260 TB/s. NVIDIA’s sixth-generation NVLink reference separately lists 3,600 GB/s per GPU and describes all-to-all communication. These are vendor-published specifications and claims, and the available descriptions do not reconcile their system-level definitions or configurations. The per-GPU figure is not interchangeable with either rack-level figure.

What is known about production and availability?
In its March 16, 2026 announcement, NVIDIA said the platform chips were “now in full production.” That dated company statement does not establish that every rack configuration is available in every region, or specify price or delivery timing. For a purchase or deployment plan, ask NVIDIA or an authorized systems integrator about the configuration, local availability and schedule.
