It is a game-level setting that can scale back performance as needed to reduce power consumption—not an indication that your PS5 is asleep or switched off.
What the symbol means
PlayStation identifies the symbol in the Switcher as the Power Saver icon. The official guide names the icon but does not describe its artwork, so identifying it by its leaf-and-lightning-bolt appearance relies on the symbol’s location and context. When it appears beside a game, Power Saver is active for that game.

Sony says Power Saver lets performance scale back as needed to reduce power consumption. Its guidance does not give a fixed energy-saving amount or specify a particular performance or frame-rate change.
How to check or change Power Saver
- On your PS5, open Settings > System > Power Saving > Power Saver for Games.
- Check whether Use Power Saver is turned on.
- Select the games for which you want the setting active. To remove the icon for a game, turn Power Saver off for that game.
Power Saver applies to supported PS5 games; it is not a universal setting for every game.

What changes while it is active
- Performance may scale back: PlayStation says this can happen as needed to reduce power consumption, but does not promise a specific reduction in performance or a set amount of electricity saved.
- VR mode is unavailable: PlayStation states that VR mode cannot be used while Power Saver is active.
- Other features may be limited: PlayStation cautions that gameplay features besides VR may also be limited; it does not provide a complete list in the cited guidance.
Power Saver is not a PS5 power state
Power Saver for Games is a setting for supported games. The PS5’s power states—on, rest mode, and off—describe the state of the whole console. The game icon indicates neither that the console is in rest mode nor that it has been turned off.
