The Huion Note E (model X50) is an 8.4-inch Android 15 tablet built around handwriting, but it is not an E Ink e-reader. Its matte LCD is designed to feel paper-like for writing, and it can also run Android apps; reading PDFs or ePub files requires a separate reader app. Huion’s store listing showed $332, reduced from $369, on October 7, 2026, but that was a dated listing, not a guaranteed price in every region.
What kind of device is the Huion Note E?
Huion describes the Note E as a standalone electronic notebook for note-taking, reading, and drawing. It runs Android 15 and includes a PW510 stylus that attaches magnetically and does not need charging. The pen supports 8,192 pressure levels and tilt recognition, according to Huion’s product specifications.

The screen is an 8.4-inch, 1920×1200 LCD with a 60Hz refresh rate, 270 PPI, 16:10 aspect ratio, 300-nit typical brightness, and 99% sRGB color-gamut volume. Its etched anti-glare matte surface is marketed as paper-like, but the display technology is LCD—not E Ink. That distinction matters if your priority is an e-reader’s reflective screen rather than a color tablet display. Huion’s product page identifies the X50 and lists these specifications.
Huion announced the device on May 20, 2026. The company’s announcement quoted its R&D manager, Simon, saying, “We designed Huion Note E to enhance everyday work efficiency for our users.” That is the manufacturer’s stated aim, not an independent performance finding.

How well does it fit digital note-taking?
Huion lists handwritten notes with search and handwriting recognition or conversion, PDF annotation, audio-linked notes made while recording, task lists, reminders, cloud backup, and export. The company says notes can be backed up to Google Drive, OneDrive, and Dropbox. These are listed capabilities, not independently tested results.
There is an important portability limitation for notes: Huion’s proprietary .ahn backup files are not directly viewable on Windows, macOS, iOS, or iPadOS, according to its support FAQ. For sharing or viewing notes on other platforms, Huion lists PDF and JPG export. The FAQ also says the case comes pre-installed and an additional screen protector is not required; adding one may negatively affect the display experience. Huion Support documents these compatibility and setup details.

Can you use the Note E as a regular Android tablet?
Yes. It is an Android tablet, and Huion says users can install third-party apps. However, app compatibility and screen layout can vary, so do not assume every app will display or behave as it would on a conventional tablet. The device has no SIM support, which rules out cellular service, and no microSD slot for expanding storage.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Can you read documents on it?
Yes, but document reading requires downloading a separate third-party PDF or ePub reader; Huion’s FAQ does not describe a built-in dedicated document reader. The matte LCD can display color and supports general Android apps, but it is not an E Ink screen. Choose it for a combination of handwriting and tablet functions rather than assuming it offers the same display characteristics as an E Ink reader.

Is it under $400?
Huion’s official store listing was observed at $332, reduced from $369, on October 7, 2026. Treat that as a dated, regional storefront price: it may change, and it does not establish the price available to every buyer. Check the current local listing before relying on the under-$400 figure. The included pen and pre-installed case are part of the stated package; Huion says a separate screen protector is unnecessary.
Who should consider the Huion Note E?
It may suit someone who wants a compact Android tablet centered on handwriting, with PDF annotation and the option to install other apps. Its combination of an included battery-free pen and a matte, color LCD makes it different from a dedicated E Ink reader, while the need for a separate document-reading app and limits on backup-file portability are worth factoring into a purchase.
