What the FeroFlyF405 Flight Controller Includes—and What Its First Tests Revealed

FeroFlyF405 pairs an STM32F405 with a custom INAV target and a reported set of sensors and interfaces. Its first tests also exposed IMU drift and a motor 3 calibration problem.

FeroFlyF405 is a custom flight-controller board built around an STM32F405 and brought up with INAV using a creator-written target. A Circuit Digest report published October 6, 2026, describes its hardware and early firmware work, but also reports unresolved sensor drift and test flights that did not fly cleanly. The report says a V1.1 revision corrected one motor-output DMA limitation; it does not establish that the other problems were fixed.

What is the FeroFlyF405?

FeroFlyF405 is a custom flight-controller design attributed to maker Farhan. According to the Circuit Digest report, the board uses an STM32F405 microcontroller and runs INAV through a custom target written for the design. It is a documented hardware project, not a product that the report establishes as commercially available or flight-ready.

The report says the creator shared hardware files on GitHub and documented the build in a video. Because those project files were not independently examined for the report, the details below should be understood as reported specifications and observations rather than independently verified measurements or reproduction results.

What hardware does the reported design include?

The reported board combines motion sensing, altitude sensing, motor outputs, and interfaces on a four-layer PCB measuring 50 × 65 mm.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Design element What the Circuit Digest report says
Processor STM32F405
IMU LSM6DSL
Barometer DPS368
Motor outputs 12
Interfaces CAN bus, I2C, and three UARTs
PCB Four layers; 50 × 65 mm
Power design Designed for a 3S LiPo input, with a buck converter supplying 5 V and a regulator supplying 3.3 V

The prototype was reportedly hand-soldered. Its CAN circuitry was left unpopulated because components were out of stock, so the presence of CAN in the design does not mean that it was available on that built prototype.

How was INAV brought up on the board?

The FeroFlyF405 uses a custom INAV target rather than relying on an already-established target for a mass-market controller. One reported setup issue involved the barometer’s I2C address: INAV searched at 0x76, while the DPS368 used 0x77 by default. The report says a macro added to the custom target addressed that mismatch.

Reported IMU drift

During setup, pitch and roll initially read near zero, then jumped after roughly ten seconds to about 3.7 and 15.6 degrees. Replacing the IMU reportedly made no difference. The creator raised ahrs_dcm_kp from 2000 to 4000, after which drift reportedly fell to about 3 degrees, and then performed a manual calibration from the transmitter.

The report does not identify the root cause. The parameter change and calibration are specific to the reported bring-up; they should not be treated as a general remedy for drift on other INAV boards.

What happened in the reported flight tests?

The report says test flights consistently leaned toward one corner. The creator attributed the behavior to motor 3 spinning more slowly; ESC3 would not calibrate, and flight-controller compensation was not enough for a clean flight. The account therefore documents a problem encountered in testing, not successful flight validation.

The report identifies three design limitations relevant to that outcome and to installation:

  • No onboard XT30 power connector.
  • Motor output 3 was assigned to a timer channel without DMA. The report says this prevented INAV from using digital protocols such as DShot and OneShot on that output.

What changed in V1.1—and what remains unconfirmed?

The report says V1.1 addressed the DMA limitation on motor 3. That is a specific revision change, not evidence that the ESC3 calibration problem, the persistent lean, or the IMU drift was resolved. The report does not document a clean flight on V1.1.

Reported point What can be concluded
Motor 3 DMA limitation The report says V1.1 addressed it.
ESC3 calibration and slow motor 3 The report describes these in testing; it does not establish that V1.1 fixed them.
Persistent lean / clean flight The early test quad leaned and did not fly cleanly; no later clean-flight result is established.
IMU drift The cause remained uncertain in the report; no V1.1 resolution is established.

What does the project report say is open source?

The Circuit Digest report names CERN-OHL-P-2.0 as the hardware license. It says the hardware repository contains KiCad schematic and PCB files, Gerbers, a bill of materials, and a STEP model, with INAV target files and a binary in a separate repository. Those repository contents and the current license status were not independently checked here, so confirm the files and terms in the project repositories before building from or redistributing the design.
