Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor every agent-initiated storage change, keep an audit record that identifies the actor, action, target, time, outcome and available request context. Alert on changes with broad or lasting impact—such as mass deletion, expanded access, weakened retention or encryption, and interrupted logging—while separately verifying that your platform actually records the relevant data operations. Configuration changes and changes to stored objects often use different logging categories.
What should each agent-change record contain?
Use the storage platform’s native audit fields rather than assuming one schema fits every cloud or service. The record should let an investigator determine who acted, what they did, where they did it, when it happened and whether it succeeded. Google Cloud describes this as answering “who did what, where, and when?” in its audit overview; AWS CloudTrail records identity, service, action and request information in its event format.

- Actor: Record the agent’s service account, workload identity, role or principal. Preserve a delegating user or other effective identity when the platform exposes it.
- Action: Capture the API method or operation, including whether it created, updated, moved, restored or deleted data, or changed configuration.
- Target: Identify the account or project and the affected storage resource—such as a bucket, share, volume, object or path—at the level available in the event.
- Time and result: Keep the event timestamp and success, failure or status details.
- Request context: Preserve caller address and request or correlation ID when available. Record relevant parameters or before-and-after state where supported and permitted.
- Event class: Distinguish control-plane configuration events from data-plane reads and writes, and distinguish user or agent actions from provider-generated system events.
Google Cloud Audit Logs place audit information in a LogEntry whose protoPayload contains an AuditLog object; see Understanding audit logs. Use the fields the relevant service actually emits rather than inventing universal field names.
Which changes deserve alerts?
Set priority by potential impact and deviation from the agent’s approved scope. The following tiers are operational guidance, not universal vendor thresholds; tune them to the storage resource, expected workload and response process.

Page or raise a high-priority alert
- Destructive changes with broad scope, including unusual mass deletion, overwrite or movement.
- Permission or ACL changes that grant wider access.
- Removal or weakening of retention controls or legal holds.
- Encryption-setting or key-policy changes that could reduce protection or interrupt access.
- Changes to audit configuration, or a logging interruption that removes visibility.
- Actions by an unexpected principal, against an unexpected resource, from an unexpected region or at an unusual time.
- Repeated denied operations that suggest an agent is probing beyond its permitted role.
Send for review or create a ticket
- Low-volume changes outside an approved plan.
- Unexpected resource creation.
- A meaningful change on a resource the agent is authorized to manage but does not normally touch.
Keep routine actions in the audit trail
Expected successful actions within an approved task generally belong in retained, searchable audit records without paging an operator. GKE documentation describes using Kubernetes audit entries to investigate suspicious API requests and alert on unwanted calls; see GKE audit logging information. CloudTrail can route trail logs to CloudWatch Logs for monitoring and notifications on selected activity, as described in its supported services and integrations.
How do you avoid gaps between configuration and data logging?
Do not assume a control-plane audit log also captures object or file operations. Providers commonly separate resource configuration from data access; configure and validate each category the agent can use.

| Platform | What the cited documentation establishes | Coverage caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Google Cloud Storage | Admin Activity covers user-driven configuration or metadata changes; Data Access includes operations such as creating, deleting, moving and updating object data or metadata. Admin Activity is enabled by default, while Data Access logging must be enabled. Cloud Storage audit logging; Cloud Audit Logs overview. | Cloud Audit Logs do not track changes made by Object Lifecycle Management or Autoclass, and public-object access can be absent. Document separate visibility for lifecycle automation if it matters. |
| AWS CloudTrail | CloudTrail records activity through the console, SDKs, command line and other services. Management events cover control-plane operations; trails include management events by default, but data events are not included by default. Understanding CloudTrail events; Logging management events. | Configure event selectors for the storage data actions the agent can perform. Data-event coverage may add charges. |
| Kubernetes on GKE | Kubernetes audit logs use the k8s.io service name and record actions performed through the Kubernetes API, such as changes made with kubectl. GKE audit logging information. |
These logs help audit Kubernetes-mediated changes; verify storage-provider logs for underlying data operations that do not appear as Kubernetes API mutations. |
| Azure Monitor Activity Log | Microsoft documents the Activity Log event schema and access or export methods, including portal, PowerShell, CLI, REST and export destinations. Azure Activity Log event schema. | The cited schema documentation alone does not establish exact operation coverage or alert behavior for a particular Azure Storage service. Check that service’s applicable categories and export path. |
In Google Cloud Storage, Data Access logs are opt-in; public-object access may also be missing. In AWS, data events are excluded unless configured. These are distinct coverage gaps, so confirm settings for each environment rather than treating an enabled audit stream as complete.

- Inventory the agent’s permissions. List the storage resources and data or configuration actions it can perform; use this scope to define expected events and exceptions.
- Enable the corresponding event categories. Check both configuration/control-plane logging and data-access logging. For AWS, select the relevant data events; for Google Cloud Storage, explicitly enable Data Access logging when object operations must be audited.
- Exercise representative operations safely. Test a permitted create, update and delete in a non-production resource or controlled test scope. Confirm that records show the actor, target, action, time and result, and that the intended alert fires.
- Check exclusions and system-generated changes. Confirm whether lifecycle services, public access, Kubernetes controllers or other automation can change storage without appearing in the log stream you rely on.
- Route and retain records for investigation. Confirm the destination is queryable by actor, target, action and time, and that alert delivery reaches the responsible operator. Choose retention, routing and alert cadence for your own requirements; the cited documentation does not establish universal values for them.
- Review coverage after changes. Recheck selectors, permissions and alert rules when agent scope, storage resources or provider configuration changes.
Data-event coverage can increase event volume and, for AWS CloudTrail data events, may add charges. The cited platform documentation does not provide a complete cross-cloud comparison of cost, retention or alert latency, so validate those details against the specific service and configuration you use.
