There is no evidence that Shree Cement’s short sellers knew of a hidden catalyst before the September 2026 decline. What was visible during the slide was persistent price weakness and a bearish technical signal: MarketsMojo reported that the 50-day moving average crossed below the 200-day average on 10 September. The company’s latest available quarterly results showed a profit, while also recording substantial power-and-fuel and freight expenses. Those facts describe the backdrop; they do not prove what drove the share price lower.
Why did Shree Cement shares fall in September 2026?
The documented evidence shows a decline, but does not establish one cause. MarketsMojo reported that Shree Cement fell 5.75% during the week of 7–11 September 2026, while the Sensex fell 1.68% over the same week. It also reported an intraday low of ₹22,510 on 11 September. These are dated market observations, not proof of what investors or short sellers knew.

The NSE quote page later recorded a 52-week low of ₹21,550 on 29 September 2026. That later exchange figure is the lowest of the two reported prices; it should not be conflated with MarketsMojo’s earlier 11 September intraday low. NSE quote page; MarketsMojo’s weekly market report.
What was the bearish technical signal?
The 50-day average crossed below the 200-day average
MarketsMojo reported that Shree Cement’s 50-day moving average crossed below its 200-day moving average on 10 September 2026. This pattern is commonly called a death cross. A moving average smooths past prices over a chosen period; when the shorter-period average drops below the longer-period average, it indicates that recent price action has weakened relative to the longer trend.

MarketsMojo also described negative MACD readings and the share price trading below key moving averages. These are technical descriptions of historical price behaviour. They neither demonstrate that a decline must continue nor establish that traders acted on advance information. MarketsMojo’s technical commentary.
